To make it short (because it would be too many songs to name them all) I'll try to do a top 10 with only one song from each band.

Dream Theater: A Change of Seasons

Liquid Tension Experiment: Universal Mind

John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess: Black Ice

Blind Guardian: Mortred's Song

Panic Room: Electra City

Karnataka: Delicate Flame of Desire

Queen: Flick of the Wrist

Anne-Marie Helder: Blood Red Sky

Yes: Changes

Room: Pre-Flight

There should also be mentioned Pink Floyd, Rush, King Crimson, Emerson Lake & Palmer and several other progressive rock bands.

Also, several Modal Jazz songs/artists, certain composers like Perotin, Palestrina, Tallis, Byrd, Dowland, Bull, Monteverdi, Purcell, Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Berlioz, Mussorgsky, Mahler, Bartók, Schönberg, Strawinsky, Glass and lots more.

I don't have favorite songs. I do, however have favorite artistes whose songs I constantly listen to; for example, Ai Otsuka, Kelis and Regina Spektor. Those three always produce more or less excellent tunes that I enjoy.

That one's definitely awesome.

But I couldn't say it was my favourite one, though.

It changes pretty frequently for me, but the bands remain the same. Alphabetical order. I narrowed it down to one each, but that probably made it less accurate.

Black Sabbath - Electric Funeral
Blind Guardian - Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill)
Blue Oyster Cult - Veteran of the Psychic Wars
Demons & Wizards - Spatial Architects
Dio - Lord of the Last Day
Domine - The Prince in the Scarlet Robe
Gamma Ray - Razorblade Sigh
Hawkwind - Magnu
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Judas Priest - Blood Red Skies
Megadeth - Hook in Mouth
Queen - The Prophet's Song
Rainbow - Stargazer

Favourite songs are near impossible to list for me. Favourite bands would be easier. However, in an attempt to stick with the thread premise, one song that never fails me...

Marillion - Neverland.

That's followed closely by just about everything else from Marillion, Fish (no, not phish)www.youtube.com/watch, H.I.M., The Cure (from the edge of the deep green sea (www.youtube.com/watch), and Pink Floyd, Roger Waters.
Add to that a few soundtracks: Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOKm7mxGV6w ), Buffy- Once More With Feeling, Wicked www.youtube.com/watch, Phantom ( I particularly approve of this "metal" version from NightWish www.youtube.com/watch . Jekyll & Hyde (Original Concept),
Obscure: Trust Obey (with James O'Barr writer/artist of "The Crow") , King of Fools, Immaculate Fools, Bedlam Bards (On The Drift - Tribute to "FIREFLY")
Old School: Billy Joel, Huey Lewis and the News, Journey, Survivor, Asia, The Hooters, Jesus Jones, N.I.N., Queensryche (Operation:Mindcrime)

ETA: linkage
ETA: MORE: the more I drink, the more I edit: www.youtube.com/watch plus: THE AWESOME: www.youtube.com/watch
