Um, thats why I run with about 4 saves + autosave + restart + quicksave. And then overwrite the oldest save each time I save. That way I can go back by various amounts if I ever need and also have effective backups if anything gets corrupted with only a little time missing.
Maybe time to learn a lesson in doing somethign similar? :-P
Thats your main problem man. In all RPGs you need at least 5 saves at all times, sometimes even 10 that you are constantly rewriting over the old one. I learned my lesson when I played Morrowind and I almost had to develop a relatively new character I had pumped 50 hours in because I was suck in a building with a mob outside and I had no weapons that were in good condition. Just save often in all RPGs

DLC character. No impact on the story. The developers did not make the game with him in mind. Is he an add-on, plain and simple. A nice little thing put in so your squad roster would be filled up.

Had all ship upgrades, and almost all other upgrades. Had each individuals upgrade (Jacks biotics, Mordins tool, Legions shields, etc)
Had everyone but Zaheed loyal.
1. Sent (loyal) Legion through the pipes. He dies
2. Had Zaheed escort survivors. He dies (not a surprise to me, was a bad choice)
3. Had loyal Garrus lead the 2nd fire squad. All the rest of the squad was loyal. took Miranda and Grunt with me. Mordin dies randomly at end.
I can get Zaheed but I dont get Legion and Mordin dieing...

I had Legion in the vents and Miranda leading the Fireteam and it worked out great. Honestly? My guess is that Legion needs his Widow rifle upgrade to make it through.
I had Legion, loyal, with both his shield upgrades and the Widow rifle go through the tunnels and he bit the big one for me. I think maybe it also has to do with who leads the first fire squad. Samara lead mine, and although she made it she "was behind schedule" at one point.

Tech: Legion, even Tali is not as good as Legion.
2nd Team Lead: Garrus
Escort: Mordin
Biotic: Samara shes a matriarch they are the most powerful biotics in the galaxy, Jack may have power but she lacks Samara's control.
2nd Team Lead: Garrus
and I took Legion and Tali with me to fight the human reaper

From what I can tell, Legion is the best squadmate for the vents, but
he will die if Garrus isn't the leader of the fireteam at the time.
That's how it worked for me. I had Legion in the vents and Garrus
leading the fireteam.
My other theory is that if you don't kill
the collectors before activating the last vent switch, you'll get the
Specialist killed. Did you flip the eighth vent switch before mopping
up the Collectors?
I've had Miranda leading the other team and Legion survived. And I've not killed all the guards outside the gate either.

Nope, didn't get it and he lived.
I think it has to be timed. If he loses too much vitality while you're opening the vents then his circuitry is too frazzled when he reaches the end to properly hack the door... same goes for the others (except the flat out bad choices).

I used legion to go through the pipes and picked garrus to lead both times considering that he was a leader at one point and for the second team leader they have to keep the collectors attention ( guerrilla warfare-ish???) that is exactly what the description of garrus said when you got to the pick the candidate. and like brancelem said, zaeed got completely wrecked in his attempt to lead.
I had the same set-up. It says Garrus has lead elite squads in battle as well. Read the descriptions before picking for those that lost people.

I think the best way to experience Mass Effect is just to go with the flow. If you feel like the suicide mission is flawed because you didn't have a perfect happy ending, that's kind of narrow-minded. Why would BioWare do all this work to make the possible ending so dynamic if nobody was going to use it?
Agreed! Enjoy it for what the outcome ends up being. You can have a 100% loyalty and all the upgrades, but the suicide mission most likely responded to how you played the entire game as a whole. Maybe its the order you recruited them, maybe it was something you said that went against that players beliefs have it paragon or renegade, loyal or unloyal.

Good thing I did read this, because I make a habit of using only quicksaves when in missions and restart them if things go wrong.

You simply do not know your team. If you really paid attention you would know who fits right with each job. You do not pick your favorites or pick someone because they volunteered. Pay attention to each person's story, what their skills are, etc... and you should know who goes where.
A real leader would have to make these decisions.
Every time I play, all my team mates have survived and I've been through 3 times. Not every answer will be the right one, sometimes there will be consequences for you making the wrong decision. Actions will have consequences, which is what I believe Bioware was really trying to put across and will most likely be something they implement again in the next game.
Be angry at yourself, not at Bioware. You had poor judgement and you really did not know your team's strengths. They tried over and over again in the game to point out what this mission was going to be like. These are the tough decisions that a leader would have to make. Instead of choosing who to leave behind like Ashley or Kaiden, you entire mission could hang in the balance based on your choice of who takes what role in the mission.

Zaeed is a Merc, that has a habbit of getting his whole team killed and usually works alone so why the hell would you choose him for anything???
It's as absurd as people choosing the assasin for the tech job becuase he can climb thro a vent, just a shame he knows jack **** about tech.

First try the only person that died for me was mordin...apparently he died for a lot of people though so i wasnt to worried about it, just brought him along in my squad the next time.
A tech expert for the vents. I picked legion at the time considering hes a ****ing GETH and they are all tech experts.
Leader i picked garrus...he just lead a team at Omega and his experience at C-Sec surely made him a good leader
Biotic field, Samara. Asari? Check. Justicar? Check. AWESOME AT BIOTICS? Check.
Escort the crew? i picked grunt. great warrior and will surely protect

Listen to what Jack says when Miranda suggests herself as team leader. You want someone whos experienced, but also commands respect. Zaeed definately commands zero respect from your teammates. From what little is shown of his personality, its obvious he commands through fear.
Okay that's BS though because Miranda also clearly doesn't command respect based on Jack's reaction to Miranda volunteering!!!!

The choices do not all make sense. There is no reason Samara is a bad fireteam leader, for example. No reason at all. She has more experience than everyone else combined and commands EPIC amounts of loyalty as witnessed on the Asari planet.

No one respects Zaeed as a leader, he is just a good merc. Garrus has experience leading a team and has held his own against three merc gangs. Garrus > Zaeed.
OK, I call B.S. Garrus was a poor leader who managed to get 3 RIVAL mercenary gangs to WORK TOGETHER to wipe him out, and also led his entire team to the slaughter by not knowing his team (rooting out potential traitors) and by making so many enemies so quickly on Omega.
Sorry, that is BAD leadership. He demonstrates himself to be a poor leader repeatedly in both Mass Effect games, he's too much of a hot head who risks too much to fight his perception of injustice, no matter the cost.

Legion as hack specialist and Samara as 1st team leader. Legion takes a headshot.
Miranda as biotic specialist and Samara as 2nd team leader. Jack (who was fighting with me) is taken away by those bugs, as she gets out of the secure area. Also, Samara gets shot and dies.
Jacob to get back to the ship with crewmebers. Finally a sucess.
Leave Miranda, Mordin and Tali behind to hold back the collectors. At the end, Mordin is dead.
All my choices seemed perfect =(
PS: I left Grunt sleeping in his pod. He'll be my little gift to Urdnox clan in ME3 (so I hope).

She has more experiance at life, she has never led anything, she has worked alone her entire life, she is not a good leader. She did not command any loyalty at all form Illium, in fact most of them wanted her gone, she did command a lot of respect from them, but respect has nothing to do with loyalty, or leadership for that matter.
