Look in the codex, in game.
They look like skiny, gray humans with no faces.

Is there a part that you have to complete to get that picture?

I don't think so... Just pause the game and go to the Codex. There's ton's of info there, with pictures for pretty much everything in the ME world

You find another Beacon at some point and the victims are shown to be exactly the same as the Collectors. Maybe the codex got it wrong?
It was news to us that the Collectors were the Protheans, maybe the guy who wrote the codex didnt know.

An alternate way to understand this - remember the part of the vision, where it seems to be some kind of beast roaring in agony? It's repeated in this "new" vision, followed by an image of a Collector, seemingly also in pain. If you're anything like me, you assumed the genetic mutation that the Reapers subjected the Protheans to was a long process, altering things as it was convenient and out of necessity that was discovered along the way, and thus thought this beacon was evidence that their appearance had always been the same.infinite bias wrote...
In one of the N7 missions you recover another prothean artifact like the beacons in ME1 and it shows the same images as the beacons before except the camera shifts to show a collector/prothean dying. So unless the reapers altered all the remaining Prothean artifacts as well I'm assuming they always looked like that.
If you understand it as showing the Protheans were, instead, suddenly and violently transformed into Collectors, it makes sense of the vision both in the context of all the other imagery of Protheans, and solves a little more of the original vision in making some additional sense out of that creature's cry.

As mentioned, the in-game codex is meaningless because it represents the knowledge of the people in the game world. The grey-skinned humanoid is just a stand-in "generic alien" because the Codex's putative authors didn't know what a Prothean looked like.
Honestly the most likely explanation is that in ME1 the Protheans were intended to look like the statues, but in ME2 they were retconned into looking like the Collectors.

true emeraldon, that they are repurposed protheans. In essence, Collectors are not protheans any more due to the extesive genetic manipulation.
But they were.
We're on the same page, I was just posting it to clarify for others who were wrong.
