I think there have been enough reports on and off in these forums (this is not the only thread, trust me) to conclude all parts of the HUD relating to powers are bugged, at least on some systems. The top part especially, perhaps, but I too have had at least one crash merely from clicking on powers in the lower part. Hotkeying powers after they have been successfully placed in the top bar seems to be the only crash-proof way to use powers.

In properties > compatibilities : check " Run this program as an administrator " for mass effect 2 and then click apply , then OK  . if you put it on the masseffect2.exe , it will be enough. 



I encountered a similar problem some time ago when dragging powers to the quick use bar. 
What's weird is that the problem isn't exactly the same for everyone, but related to the quick action screen. 
To me it looks like a problem with right managements or something similar. It seems like something, somewhere, is preventing certain resources to be used or loaded properly. 
It's just a guess, but sometimes you can encounter that kind of problem when you install your games in the program files folder ( which is the default choice )
If someone who hasn't installed the game with the default could confirm if there is still a problem or not, it could be nice.

I'll try that Sawp. Though, it seems to me to be a comprehensive issue since it is happening across so many capable systems. Usually things like this are solved in the first or second patch. Hopefully Bioware will get in gear and get that second patch out cause... this game is too AWESOME for such a stupid bug to stop it. Hehe.

I have this problem as well.

The only thing that works for me, is using hot keys, otherwise I risk it crashing.



It's incredibly annoying and ruins the imersion.



Are there any news on when the next patch will be out, and wether or not this bug will be attended to in it?

Guys, I am bumping it, because my computer seems to be hating on me. I too get this and the only hope I have is that someone figured out some workaround, because even hotkeyng talents doesnt work for me, I still need to use TP, playing on high difficulty, aiming and all. The funniest part? I HAD PLAYED the blasted game before, though I didn't finish it. No problems.
Even now, It didn't start immediately - during Mordin's recruitment. And I am stuck now - can't get through the final plaza before his clinic for my life.
Please, please tell me someone has a workaround and I don't have to fight for replacement

How do you expect us to help? You have simply given us a "Me too" post that contains no information thats needed to help troubleshoot your problem. Read this thread and post accordingly.

Bogsnot1, I have, in fact, readed this post. The fact that it's established for now there is no techical fix for this bug and the only thing that can help is in-game workaround. Thus, you don't need my technical specs, and my problem was pretty much described in every freaking post above mine.
Also, I have tried uninstall-reinstall and all other possible solutions of this thread, as logic might suggest
