@zchen The bottom two are my favorites. I think the straw-blonde hair on HN2 makes for a great contrast with the blood-spattered armor.
What's happening to the hair on the city elf? Did that one piece detach from the rest of the head or is it just the angle?

Just the angle on the City Elf's hair I think, one of those wacky hair styles only anime hair gel could hold...
here's a few more

This is Emilly, Elven mage who was found at the ruined city of Laenchide, last of the Elven city's hidden deep within the Lost Forest. Not a city Elf, but not quite a Dalish Elf. She knows herself as a pure blooded Elf.

@Shayaryn Good use of the eye shadow. Combined with the mod outfit she looks quite the Winter Elf.
@theenigma77 I like the cocky expression. Is he a Templar, perhaps?

Actually, the new character uses this mod. The Winter Elves mod uses some resources from it from before it was released. The biggest difference is the forehead gem, the tattoos, and the eye textures.
I made a line-up of my characters. Which do you think looks best? (Yes, I stole most of the names froom books)
Did some more work on my underwear texture. I'm rather happy with it now. Just wanted to show it off; took me forever to figure out how to do a proper normal map.
Petehog: I really like the second version. Her eyes look a bit too far apart in the first one. Did you adjust the eyes, or is just the different hair? Either way, nice work.

Hey, I never said you were using the Winter Elf mod. I didn't know the Planes Traveller one existed though - it's nice. As for your characters, Revaan is my favorite by far. Keziah is definitely unique as well. The hairstyle you use on Amara is cool but it never quite looks right to me at the top of the head. There's that extra pile behind the bangs that just doesn't seem to sit right, like it isn't quite wrapped aroound the underlying model.
Your texture is coming along. It would be nice to have something like that as an outfit instead of a body model so it could be selectively applied.

Well, you did say Winter Elf. I do love that Planes Traveller mod. There's a sun-themed version in the works, too.
You like Revaan? I never got many comments on her here. She was my first character, and I've edited her face I don't know how many times. With my other characters, I have to force myself through Ostagar and Lothering, but I never get bored with Revaan, even after playing her four times. Partly because I like playing an archer rogue. Last night I hit for 739 damage with Arrow of Slaying. As my first character, though, I've developed this strange emotional attachment to her, and she's become my "canon" character.
Amara's hair doesn't look quite right on any character, unfortunately. It was originally made for The Sims, and it isn't physiqued, so it kind of sits on top of the head. Honestly, my favorite thing about it is the texture. The only other hair mod is Oblivion hair, and as an Oblivion modder, I'm sick to death of seeing them. They look out of place in DA, and the texture looks, in my opinion, horrible. They look much better in Oblivion.
There is a wearable body mod, called Thor's Body Shop on Nexus. I'm too lazy to look it up, as I haven't had coffee and can barely see.
I made a dwarf, finally, but I need coffee before I can get a shot of her cropped and uploaded. The Dwarf Noble origin was much better than I expected. I already knew what would happen, but I really want to strangle Bhelen. Amara is almost to the Anvil of the Void, and she sided with Harrowmont... Don't want to post spoilers here, but if you've played that part, you know what I'm looking forward to.

Interesting. The stuff definitely looks good, though I have to wonder if some of the elf-fans here are kind of missing the length that Bioware went to make their elves different from their traditional portrayals.

I think she's by far your best one, but that's just me. When you've put that much work into a character you definitely get attached to them and their story. For me that storytelling is one of the draws of playing RPGs, especially ones as customizable as Dragon Age is. The toolset really made it for me.

Yeah, that's unfortunate. The short-hair Sim port seems to sit on the head much better than that one (and the other wavy Sims one) though. A lot of the Oblivion hairs seem like they came out of Final Fantasy to me, but there are definitely a few gems, like the Leliana hair. I never played Oblivion though so they're new to me.

I haven't played the Dwarf origin yet, but I think it's quite an interesting situation. Entering Orzimar as an outsider the whole situation seems obtuse and irrelevant. Behlen's more progressive and willing to help the Wardens, so he makes a good pick. I gather that he does some slimy stuff to get to where he is though so a dwarf would have a very different picture. Bioware rocks!
It seems that I always post a character in this topic right before a new page is created and people pass over it, but if you felt like checking out Selene I'd be most flattered (embedded shots a few pages back, the rest here).

- Revaan is nice, if a bit plain. I've had a similar kinda problem / situation with my mage. She was my first toon, and I've restarted her so many times it's not even funny. but she's ultimately my favorite character, like your Revaan.
- that's the hairstyle my tank has (as you can see *points to avatar*). I think it looks fine. it does seem a hair out of place / poofy, etc, but it works for me. even if I got Oblivion on PC, even with mods, I don't think I could play that game anymore. I've done basically everything of worth, but I digress...
- I looked up that mod out of curiousity, and it didn't show...hmm
- I'm not sure I could play a dwarf seriously, in all honesty. "Epic fail" is what you're looking forward to I'm guessing? lol.
I'll post my current toons sometime tonight.

I like the pretty "mystical elf" stuff, but for the sake of role-playing, I like my character to fit into the setting. Still, it does look nice and not too out of place for a mage, at least.SilverSteelWolf wrote...

I like the level of customization in DA, but I have to say, Oblivion is more customizable, if only because the main plot is so weak and generic. My main character is a custom race that I made to have special textures, a different head mesh, and a different ear mesh, and I was able to edit the dialogue to get characters to refer to her as if she was a vanilla race. In Dragon Age, there's only so much you can do. As far as I know, you can't use make a custom race that uses different mesh and textures. Keziah's pale skin is a tint, if I understand how it works. All female characters use the same texture; that's how I made the underwear. All female characters show up with underwear that matches their skin tone because Dragon Age uses tint maps for skin colors. I think. Oblivion is much easier to mod.I think she's by far your best one, but that's just me. When you've put
that much work into a character you definitely get attached to them and
their story. For me that storytelling is one of the draws of playing
RPGs, especially ones as customizable as Dragon Age is. The toolset
really made it for me.
The thing about Dragon Age that beats Oblivion into the ground is the story, the characters, and the replayabilty. I have never cared about a game world so much. Half the time spent in Oblivion was looting houses and taking screenshots. I've put hundreds of hours into Dragon Age since I got it in December, and I'm still not sick of it. Even doing the same quests over and over doesn't get boring. I love how the game recognizes my characters. The farmer in Lothering was nasty to my elves, but civil with my Human Noble. I liked when my City Elf called out Howe on his actions, and after his response, said "Oh, look. The regent owns a talking ass". There's something new every time I play, even with the same character.
Yeah, that's unfortunate. The short-hair Sim port seems to sit on
the head much better than that one (and the other wavy Sims one)
though. A lot of the Oblivion hairs seem like they came out of Final
Fantasy to me, but there are definitely a few gems, like the Leliana
hair. I never played Oblivion though so they're new to me.
This is one of my Oblivion characters using the "Leliana hair". I think it's the same mesh. See the edges? The alpha channel on the texture doesn't work the same way as in Oblivion. I can't even force myself to download the More Hairstyles mod because of that. As for the "Final Fantasy" hair, Ren's hair, this is how the texture is supposed to look.
I like Selene. She has a serious look to her. She also looks like a real person, which is a good thing. You did a good job with her.It seems that I always post a character in this topic right before a new page is created and people pass over it, but if you felt like checking out Selene I'd be most flattered (embedded shots a few pages back, the rest here).
Here's Lina Aeducan. I tried to make her pretty but still look like a dwarf. That armor is hideous...

You should play the Dwarf Noble Origin. I can't really explain it without too many spoilers, but it's pretty intense.
And here's another shot of Amara that I rather like.

EDIT: Took me half an hour to post this.
yasuraka.hakkyou: I'm not sure if I can play through the game with my dwarf; it feels funny. The origin really took me by surprise, though.
About Oblivion, the only thing that kept me playing was modding. That, and it was fun to break into houses, take everything that isn't nailed to the floor, and shove it into a crate. I collected keys from NPCs.

I have it on 360, so I would have to shell out more money to even mod it. and besides, I have a max level dark elf goddess (basically), so methinks no more Oblivion.
I'm so sorry to hear about your bird.

I completely agree with you about the Dragon Age story and world. Combined with the ability to customize what you can, it makes for a game I can spend a whole lot of time on. The alpha channels are definitely treated differently between DA and Oblivion, but even the stock hairs don't have the kinds of fringes I see on your Oblivion characters. It seems like it might be possible to improve on all of the DA hairs though doing so would probably be less than straightforward. But hey, if you don't like it you don't like it.
On another note, I'm still waiting for good animated hair in games. The last time I saw hair even attempt to dynamically move was in The Darkness. One thing I really liked about that game was that when you looked down, you saw your feet, when you moved your hair swished (albeit with some exaggeration) and when you looked in a mirror you saw your reflection. I know, I know, it takes resources and such but it definitely adds to atmosphere!
Sorry to hear about your bird. That sucks.

I really don't know why the same meshes and textures look different in Oblivion and Dragon Age. Ren's Hair was converted to Neverwinter Nights 2, and looks even worse than in DA. The vanilla hairs in NWN2 were physiqued, or at least the long hairs. And there were pretty circlets as well as ugly hats. Why more games don't have physiqued hair, I don't know. I have noticed that static hair tends to have better textures. Could that be it? Better mesh or better textures? NWN2 also has more races, which each have a different mesh, and yet more variety in armor and clothing meshes.
As great a game as Dragon Age is, I wish the meshes and textures were better. Then again, why do I still play Baldur's Gate? It's the story, setting, and role-playing that do it for me. Pretty as modded Oblivion can be, it gets old fast. It's good for taking screenshots, though. DA really needs a free camera mod, or a console command in a patch or the expansion that frees the camera.
Stupid bird was vicious, but he was my bird. Poor guy. I hope he wasn't in pain. I wish I had been home. I didn't even notice until I went to give him fresh water. His mate was so confused. I put her with another bird. I couldn't leave her in there. I have three birds now. cockatiels. I'm trying very hard not to think about it.
