he looks... burnt?
LOL very.

Heimjor Cousland, of the House Cousland, Warden Commander of (my) Fereldan.
Best friends with: Everyone.
Except: Alistair and Morrigan, both of whom disappeared after the Landsmeet.
Currently: Traveling around Fereldan with his GF. And Zev.
Dog: Bruno
Ha ha, don't they look chummy. Heimjor was my first character; I intentionally wanted to experience the "default" DAO playthrough. Made myself a male lawful good warrior hero.
I originally based him on Viggo Mortensen's Strider. But then I realized he had to look much younger and cleaner to fit his origin, so I redesigned him. It was more important to me that he looks like his parents, than look badass. I think Fergus takes after Dad while he takes after Mom; he's the pretty one, LOL.

Here's the latest one, I based this one on Crowe's character from The Gladiator.. He's looking rather unnnoticeable, I know. Uhmm, perhaps I could roleplay the Gladiator.... Sword.. and.. hmm, those neat round metal shields...

Anyway, I'd like to see some great human male designs.... Something to inspire me... Please?
(Face proportions are just screwed up in DA... *grumbling*)

@ Pode8: She has a very Daryl Hannah/Splash look to her. Very nice.
@ mrfoo1: I like the "other-worldly" quality of your characters eyes. The rest of the features are nice and grounded, which balances the eyes--a good combination.
I also like the fact that your first character has white hair--good on you! I've rececieved nothing but guff for making a younger character with all white hair. I think it can lend a more mythical quality to a character.

Quick and probably stupid question: How do you guys get your screenshots so... zoomed in? The only decent ones I get are from cutscenes.
Just move your character facing at a wall or some other object, this forces the camera up close.

The whole weekend I've been struggling to get a decent looking human male face... haven't managed a single good-looking one yet. Gah. Frustrating.

Actually it looks pretty much like him! I was like: omg he looks so real!
You should try making David Gaider

Define "great"; everyone's got different tastes. I've had no trouble making male human faces (with or without the toolset) that I think look awesome, but my tastes may not be yours. And I think your latest attempt looks great, so I'm curious what the earlier "failures" look like.

Great face is a face that stands out in a good way, even among other good faces; like Muradin and several others that received a lot of praise. Something unique, with a nice personal touch to them. I know you know what I mean.
I find it hard to make a human male face that actually looks good, unique and personal while fitting the game setting well... I can make good looking faces, the regular mr-handsomes, but they tend to be dull; like there's thirteen of them in a dozen. The most unique faces tend not to fit into the game's world very well (neon green hair and pink stubble???)
The simplicity of the toolset doesn't help.... It should have 5x more sliders, and for both left and right sides, options for base facial expression, and so forth.
I've done a lot of male faces this weekend, got the idea from the Sacred Ashes trailer warden... Experimented with beards, only to give them up as hopelessly bugged feature... Deleted or overwrote most of the faces right away though.
I'm working on the "gladiator" face now, doing some fine-tuning. My pretty lady Aeducan lasted until Landsmeet (when I retired her), wonder how long this mister Gladiator will last...

More Hairstyles, it's in the unique folder, you need to add it to the xml file. I wrote about it further back in the thread, so did someone else.
@Presence
Thanks for the compliment, again ^^ I'm just overwhelmed with the response I got on Muradin...
You're awesome at faces btw, but I get what you mean... It's hard!
@Noir201
Aww, I preferred the other one ^^

Heh, I think I spot a compliment in there!

Yeah... I'm personally not one for things that don't fit into the world setting well, like crazy hair colors - not for actually playing the game, at least. But to each their own, right?
Mn... I'm not sure what specific advice to give. I'm so used to character concept drawing that I tend to break up people into parts - noses, eyebrows, earts, body types, etc - and it's natural for me to mix and match those into something that's interesting to me.
I usually come up with a basic concept, then run with it. Or I just fiddle with the sliders until I like the results. For example, Legam (my mage in my avatar), my basic idea was, "dorky Rivaini mage," so the original version of him was based off of one of the few non-cacasian presents, and I just fiddled from there. His current version was made in the toolset, and the main things I did were remove the gaunt cheeks and make his ears stick out more (hence, dorky).
Best suggestion I can think is find a bunch of photos of men - very, very different looking men, famous or not. Try not to look at their faces as a whole, but observe certain features - how thick are their eyebrows? How flat is their nose, how wide thier nostrils? How thick are their lips? Play with these different features in different combinations. See what happens.

And here is my newest char, Nila. I just had to try out the new hairstyle floating around out there, I do love mods!!!
Really cute!!!! And the hair seems to be greyish? Isn't it black? I found it only in black ><

Thanks guys. She is highly modded (eyes, hair, makeup, etc...) so not sure that sliders would do much good. I may try to add her to Nexus or something eventually though.
And yeah, her hair is a black with grey highlights sort of. It is a grey-color, but this hairstyle really makes it look like a cool streaked-grey color. It is also a modded color and not one of the originals...

Having made it to the end of the original dragon age storyline (and survived) there were some side effects... First the Joining caused her eyes to glow and her hair to fade. After having a near-death experience with the Archdemon, but surviving (more to that but I don't want to ruin it for anyone not having played all the way through yet), her eyes and hair turned to a pale pink glow and she cried tears of blood during. Her face is still stained with the blood, never to be washed away. So....that's why her hair and eyes is a white/glowing/red-pink color and her red eye-makeup is actually permanent tears of blood. So, that's that...and to get to it, here's Tyrna:

I actually played around with just a metallic makeup for her, but chose to stick with the looks that's described above. Hope you guys like, later!!

Really nice, and love the fact your char has a story to it, it's kind of how i try to make a main char, like a history or say personal trait to them, outside of what the game says, a reflection to choices from the past, and how it changes them, inside and outside.
Very well done

Shots of Sylrien. She's coming along nicely. I'd like to think she photographs well.

And I think Duncan is taken with the final version of my human mage, Sayide (formerly Solona). She has a very strong profile, I want to say almost romanesque, with a strong, aquiline nose. It's not that traditional...but I think it's not that bad. Gives her a bit more 'classically' pretty rather than conventional pretty.
