@ Presence - Solid work as always! nicely done :)

@ LadyAly - Interesting design, I really like the look you are going for, perhaps her jaw is a touch too wide? Maybe she would look more feminine if it were a bit smaller? Very nice otherwise though!

@ YH - Awesome! That tattoo on her forehead is gorgeous! It really works with her icy blue eyes.

@ Ryzaki - Thanks! he does look good! nice work.

@ December Man - I really like your character too. The eye colour goes well with her hair. Nice shade on the tattoo as well. It works well against her skin tone.

I've been playing around with a few designs tonight, and I came up with this african lady. Her name is Calli. It's the first time I have attempted such a design so any feedback would be much appreciated :)

uuuh, thanks? I think. Ok I'm really not sure how to take that VirusCat....

Oh dear. Let me clarify it further then.
I like you, you deserve praise for your work. Okay so far?
I like my characters alot, I think most of them are stunning and awesome, and I still don't get the love you get - so I get jealous. Okay?
Am I clear so far?

And I for some reason also pointed out that your latest creations does not appeal to me the way the older ones does. Purely my taste and such. Just keep doing your thing!

Now I leave this place, since I don't want to be misunderstood anymore.

Edited for spelling

@Mochen:  I'd reign in that nose a bit. It seems awfully wide. Also I don't think that hair model really fits the design if you're after an "african" look. Though there aren't many to choose from.

@Mochen - I am going to disagree on the nose bit from Axe. I think the nose fits. What I like about your designs, is that, while not stunningly beautiful, they have a simplistic, almost natural kind of beauty to them. So, I dig it. I do agree that maybe a change in hairstyles might not hurt, but as is, I think it's good.

Hey,

wow, you boys and girls are producing pretty faces at the rate of a Japanese assembly line. Very nice creations from everyone, especially Mochen. You possess great talent, and aesthetic sense.

So, had some time to kill and fooled around with some softer looks for Myriadh. Tattoo colour is much lighter, can't completely remove it though. Tried different classic eye colors too. Just simple tint changes. Have to admit, she gained a huge benefit from the subtle colors. Well, seems like u got to choose between being attractive and kicking darkspawn butt :-)

Here's a sample, if someone's interested, a few more here: http://social.biowar...5/albums/725970

@meathook - No need to be degrading and demeaning like that.

Viruscat I personally find your designs to be very appealing, though that is my personal taste, but there is no need for jealousy, everyone has difference prefferences so if someone likes a certain char more it isn't personal against you, it is just their tastes/opinion. Everyone in this thread does great work, I just hope everyone can see that it is all a matter of preference and keep making chars for the people that DO enjoy their work.

That being said, I don't mean to be insulting to anyone in this post, so if it comes across that way then I apologize, I just wanted Viruscat to know that she makes very good chars as well as everyone else in this thread<3

Toying with a Dalish (mage) is it just me or are elves a bit more challenging to work with? This one needs ALOT of tweaks. I'm trying to have the jewel and a normal tattoo, but then her skin looks...ewww

all 3 races are hard to work with in some regard, IMO.

mm, I'd say raise the chin a touch, and smaller eyes.

Wow, there are some great designs here! Great job guys.

@VirusCat

Don't be discouraged. The way to get better is to keep working at it. Just like anything in life, if you work hard, you get better and better. I know it's just some character design thingy but it reflects upon character. Because winners never quit and quitters never win.

If you look at past designs, you can literally see people improve with each version they keep releasing.

You need to have the right attitude with a thread like this. Don't base your designs or this thread on affirmation by others. Who gives a FUK what they think. Just do what you do, learn from your mistakes, and keep improving. I know it sounds like I'm lecturing. I technically don't have the right to speak...as I have some of the most shyttiest character designs. But I still keep going at it because it's fun. I don't need approval from others. I could give a rat's a** what they think of me. Just do what you do.Yeah, Mochen's awesome. But who cares. Maybe you'll get better. Maybe there already is someone better. Don't throw in the towel. Just do it. Because it's all about your personality and character..in even the smallest of circumstances.

@Lady Jess - I think the jewel tat with that bird and branch tat will work. As for the rest, personally, I say thin up the nose a little, raise the cheekbones some, and thin out the cheeks a little. As for the skin, maybe try a shade or two darker. And I agree with Yas, make the eyes a little smaller

Elves are the only thing I can make easily haha. Human Females are the worst.

I always make my characters as ugly as possible. Everyone on tv is so unrealistically beautiful that I want my characters to defy the vanity paradigm. Characters as ugly as mine are usually only cast as bad guys on tv.

Realism does not have to mean ugly. It just means that the nitty gritty details are more natural and not so precise. You can make a realistic character and still make it beautiful (male or female).

My turn to comment after being a lurker for this thread.

Why do you guys do this? Post pics I mean. Then you get angry when a person is inspired by your work and aspires to not only replicate it but make it better?

Seriously, why are you posting/sharing your work?

Are you challenging others to make better work? Is that it? If so, then you need to understand some people are going to be able to do a better job than you. You can't get angry when a person takes your concept and then makes it better or shows you what they would do to make it better in their opinion.
OR
Are you trying to encourage others to be inspired by the work you produce? If this is the case then no one in this forum should feel embarrassed. I don't get some of these comments at all.

If it is fame you seek then you better be prepared for that fame to rarely last forever. Are you trying to achieve perfection in your work? Perfection doesn't exist. There will always be something you can do to improve the work.

Some of you need to learn this difference between tributes that praise the work you do and what plagiarism is. If I take a character in a super hero game and make him Green with Green colored energy attacks and call him "Jade Fist" then specifically state where I draw the inspiration from (Green Lantern) I would think the creator of Green Lantern would be thrilled that his ideas and vision inspired a person to replicate said character.

Do you think Cameron gets upset or happy when he sees Na'vi costumes at conventions?

It is pretty simple really. If you post your dream character designs here AND you are good, then people are going to be inspired and try to replicate the work you do. If you feel you can't accept the fact that someone out there is better than you, then don't post the design.

Guys, stop discouraging, embarrassing, or calling out others. I believe this thread was created to be a friendly atmosphere where other community members and designers could visit to dream and feel inspired by the works of others.

I make this post, simply because, I can't work the tool. I have the vision to describe changes that should be made, but I suck at the toolset, so I have nothing to post in this thread. Instead, I am drawn to the works others dream up and I love to see how they inspire other community members to challenge themselves to do better. However, lately this has been hard to do, because of the crap I have to read from some people.

This is not meant to be a flame or troll post. I just want to see this thread return to its original purpose. I leave you with a quote inspired from a manga I read.

"There is no such thing as a perfect being in this world. That may
sound cliche, but it's the truth. The average person admires
perfection and seeks to obtain , what is the point of achieving
perfection? There is none. Nothing. Not even a single thing. I
loathe perfection! If something is perfect, then there is nothing left. There
is no room for imagination, no creativity. No place left for a person
to gain additional knowledge or abilities. Do you know what that means? For artists such as ourselves, perfection only brings despair. It is our
job to create things more wonderful than anything before them, but
never obtain perfection. An Artist must be a person who finds
ecstasy while suffering from that antimony."

Let's just stop this childish discuss. Everyone who likes to share his creation or has a passion for such things deserves respect. Fin ! And simple keep in mind Art ( and this is in a wide way art ) is always a matter of taste.

For me it is pretty hard to make dwarfs *grins* dunno they are so stumpy - and also their faces Image IPB

@Ryzaki he is looking rather unusual, but a nice young guy

@Wyldsong and YH - Interesting designes, both elfs - and both looking ethearal - Fire and IceImage IPB

@December - She looks pretty good - The only thing I would maybe change is the eye space, a little bit

@mochen - for the first try it looks not bad. In my eyes the nose is fine, but change the hairstyle. And I think in this case use the same black color on the eyebrows. African people don't have *light* eyebrows

@Wolf I like her emerald eyes :) and don't like the hairstyle XD

@LadyJess wow - another amazing Tattoo/Jewel - and I would let stay this Tattoo alone and if you can add a tad more color to it. Change her chin and the cheekbones, the nose a bit more fragile - all in all a bit smaller. You are on the right way.

As for my MaryAnn - mmh.. yes I will try to do the chin smaller - without the toolset it isn't easy to change this Preset. I gave up yesterday night *lol*

100% agree with you!

VirusCat - Sorry for having a pop, no hard feelings?
Dadarkkami - heh, are you petehog in disguise? It's just unusual for a first time poster to write so passionately about this thread.

Anyway, here's my latest elfin creation... meet luciana :wizard:

@ Everyone - Thankyou so much for all your comments on my african lady! I appreciate it :) It's good to know she wasn't as bad as I though. And just to let you know me and VirusCat are still good friends.

@ dadarkkami - I assume most of your post is directed at me?

I really don't have a problem with people copying my designs as long as:
a) they ask me first (common courtesy)
B) they make it clear when they post that it is not an attempt to 1up the original design. Because that to me seems rather disrespectful to the original creator.

There are different ways to look at this situation.:
If you had just spent a good few hours planning and designing your character, and then someone with supposedly 'more skill' comes along and copies it and gets all the plaudits, how would you feel?

Some would feel belittled, humiliated and that this other person was showing off.

Anyway, it is pointless posting direct copies on this thread... what does it achieve? this is a place of inspiration, good natured discussion and constructive criticism. It's our very own little art exhibition. It's a perfectly normal thing and I don't see why you're having a hard time understanding that.

Nothing bad gets said on here that can't be sorted out with a few quick pm's. I love this thread, there are some great people here and we all share a creative spirit. :wizard:
Long live the pretty character thread!
