users of the makeup studio: how crucial do you find it? I've looked at it a few times, but I don't think I really need it. *shrug*

At least, I'm *pretty* sure that's from the Make Up Studio. These days all the mods bleed together once I get into the CC.
& for the record, I generally make character in the toolset, import it as a preset, & then make all the little detail changes (hairstyle, hair color, tattoo & shading, specific skin complexions to get unique eye make up, skin tone, lip color, etc.). Its just easier that way. The toolset really only works for making the main morph for me.

I'm guessing it is buried in this thread somewhere, probably multiple times, but where are you people getting those hairstyle and tattoo mods? I have the "More Hairstyles" mod from DragonAgeNexus, but I am seeing you guys use a lot of mods that I can't seem to find.
Any recommendations? thanks!
I think the less mods you use, the better. That's what I've come to realize with most character designs. What matters more than anything is getting the proportions correct, getting the features of the nose and eyes and lips correct. Once you get that done and you have mastered that, then you can use the mods to enhance your design. It's really important to make a transition towards the toolset. It is far more powerful than the in-game character creator and you can make substantially superior designs.

Not much at all but the skin with the basic eyeliner is perfect. I've used other skins for silly things such as the goth screenies a few pages back.
The eye textures aren't bad at all either, though generally too alien for my taste. Depends what kind of character I'm making.

I took everyone's advice and de-stubbled him. He looks a lot better. It's a prettyboy face, but it can still animate menace and Zevran's trademark smirk really well.
@VirusCat: Yeah, he's got the "Theirin nose" I'm afraid. It's unfortunate, but if you're going for the classically handsome leading-man look, that's the best nose in the toolset. This is why Petehog has to replace so many Alistair lookalikes in DA Redesigned. But on the whole, I'd say that any resemblance to Alistair is pretty mild...it definitely wasn't deliberate. I started from scratch and just kept tweaking until I thought he was hot. (If my character was going to condemn Alistair to the friendzone for an assassin who watched his last lover bleed to death, Zevran needed to have a face that would make angels weep. That's the only way I could justify it in my mind.)
@Lady Jess: See? Other female gamers can find NPC's hot. You're sooooo not alone. And I love the most recent screens of your PC. Very lovely...especially the eyes.
@Petehog: I'm flattered that you saw something in my Zev that you wanted to try on your version. (I adore your Sten and Leliana morphs, BTW. I think I have Sten 5 and Leliana 7 or 8...the most recent one that doesn't require the texture mod. She's so elegant and feminine; her face is now a perfect match for the voice.)
In any case, here is a screen of de-stubbled Zev with his own hair, Alistair with Zevran's hair (for comparison), and per VirusCat's suggestion...Zev with Alistair's hair:

And sometimes it's even fun to push the boundaries of what really belongs in this fantasy setting. Like these two, Night and Day, Hot and Cold. Fun to make, may never get played, and their eyes are big and funky. But Hey, it's fantasy...now where's the bubble wrap...hehe

Thanks to everyone for the compliments and feedback! (Mlai00, mochen, LadyAly, Petehog) If anyone wants the Zevran mor file, just let me know and I'll put it on DA Nexus. The only mod you'd need is Pineappletree's Vibrant Colors for his skintone and haircolor. (I have the version WITHOUT the eye color replacement files because I prefer the originals, but to each their own.)

And allow me to say...OMG YES I want the Zev mor...oh lord he's even yummier without the facial hair. I believe I hear Angels weeping. And I totally second that justification. Darn that Alistair for being so hard to NOT romance...and CAN you friend zone him? He always ninja romances me, and I can't refuse >.<

Everyone has a style that is unique to their own. I like to make designs that look like people you see in an everyday setting. I use none of the mods that are listed aside from More Hairstyles. The only times I tend to use "crazy" mods is when I'm emulating another design.
Many of these mods have impossible eye colors, impossible anatomical features, etc.
I personally don't like many of the cosmetic mods available today, which is one of the reasons I have made my own. I find myself making my own designs, my own mods, and my own vision. And glassy torchy eyes don't fit in my world. You can still create something beautiful and stunning and something that looks like a real person.

As an example, in Fallout 3, there are a million eye mods, hair mods, face mods, skin mods, pretty mods...
But even to this very day, I use none of it. I make my own and make it as real as possible. Whether it is Dragon Age Redesigned, Fallout 3 PB or the upcoming Fallout New Vegas, you can sodding bet that my goal will be more towards realism more than anything else.

and
@mochen: Thanks to both of you for the feedback on my PC! I didn't want to make a single post that spanned pages, so I thought I should separate this discussion from my Zevran morph.
So I went ahead and gave her a bit more chin and downsized her mouth/lips. I also pushed her neck back to avoid the turkey chin look. I'm modeling her after a girl I used to know, so I can't go crazy with the virtual plastic surgery, because then she'll look like a different person. But your suggestions helped me to see where my perceptions were somewhat distorted from reality. Yes, the RL girl had a short chin, but it really wasn't THAT short. I'm not sure why I got slider happy with the lips, but their current size is definitely more accurate.
As a testament of success, my mother happened to walk by as I was playing with the most recent version of my PC and she stopped in her tracks. "Is that...?" Yes, I made a character that looks like her. "Why did you give her those horrible ears??!" She's an elf, Mom. "They're hideous." LOL. Still, even if she hates the ears, I think it's awesome that she's recognizable to other people now...so thanks again.
Anyway, here are a few new screens (most are the same poses as before):

But, honestly, in real life a face isn't perfect. Thats what I do with the Char Creator and all of my chars are far away from looking similar! I need the mods for this...
And the other facet of this medal is - it is a fantasy game - with fantasy characters - a fairy tale. Fallout 3 is much more realistic - but how do you know the people would use a tattoo like the one you used in your screen ? Why is this face over and over covered in tattoos realistic ?
All is in our own fantasy, every person has a different taste and a different imagine of fantasy, beauty and realism.
Not sure if you are aware what you write - but please let others not feeling poor!

To everyone who can't use the toolset, don't worry! the cc still gives plenty of scope for creativity I find. My first 2 girls Mirabelle and Pandora were ONLY cc, with a hairstyle mod. And they turned out great I think.
Yes I agree the toolset does give you more options, but whether you can make superior designs is all a matter of opinion. If you have a good starting preset, it's easy enough to get the sliders to work well. At least everything can be adjusted to the right proportions..(unless your going for a really 'out there' design)
If we all followed the same principles in making our characters they would all end up looking pretty similar. I think the whole thing is about experimentation, what works best for you in creating a character.
I personally start with the nose on a character, and build the face around it. Others may start with the eyes or cheeks..etc.
When I use mods I try to blend them in to the overall look of the character. (except my ethereal angel design! that was me cutting loose!)
I usually don't want it to be instantly obvious that I used mods. But some people love the glowing eyes and bright makeup, it's all about taste.
Creating characters isn't so much a science as an art form, and the experimenation with mods leads into developing a personal style.

I was wondering if I have a character in-game... can I get him or her into the Toolset to save for later (to re-edit, or whatever) and if I understood correctly, I couldn't.

As I think about what I wrote, I see what you mean.
I'm not the best with saying the right things at times. I am a bit blunt at times.
I really should take it easy.
I have a really strong passion for this and it sometimes gets the better of me.
I think I just seem to always go against the flow.
I didn't intend to make anyone feel bad. I think I come off as an arrogant jack-azz sometimes. So I apologize.
