Did anyone else go thru endgame without armies?

For those interested, I completed the game without Wynne or Leliana... my main party was a female dwarf rogue (more of a dual-wielding tank and lockpicker), Morrigan, and Dog, but I kept
switching between Oghren, Sten and Zevran until Shale appeared.

  Then it
was just my Brutish Rogue Dwarf, Morrigan, Shale and Zevran all the way
-- found the last bits very easy, especially picking 'em off at
distance during the endgame, in fact I only used the elf army at the
very end for the dragon, all the rest of the armies remained unused...
Ogres in Denerim were easy, but Elven Alienage more difficult.

  Did anyone
else do this? Thought there'd be an achievement of some sort for it? I would imagine FInal Onslaught would be really easy
with all the armies employed?

General comments and opinion welcome 'cos I'm looking at a second playthru, and this time with Wynne, Leliana (maybe as main rogue), and maybe using an Elf Mage instead... Also thought I might play it completely different and not do all the 'goody-goody' stuff this time round... just adopting a 'man on a mission' attitude and killing everything else? Any thoughts/opinion?

On my nightmare play through, I didn't use any armies except just outside of Fort Drakon and once during the archdemon. I was disappointed that I couldn't get through without them but my patience wore thin outside the fort and since I'd already failed, I figured what the heck at the end.

My husband has been talking about doing a play through without using any of the companions (except where forced) and not using any of the armies. I don't think he can solo the Fort Drakon entrance or the archdemon without utilizing the armies but he swears he can do it. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has done that.

I use them just because I can get through it faster. I always play as a rogue with double blades, I can blow through it with the armies and I always need them at the arch demon because I get swarmed by dark spawn if I dont have them.

I found Fort Drakon easy up until Dragon -- completed each level of fort without armies -- took out most of them with long distance crossbow bolts from the steps... shoot a couple, nip down stairs, shoot a couple more, nip down stairs, etc... a few of the darkspawn run at you but again they're easily picked off with crossbow (fire bolts if i recall). Only the Dragon at top was hard, and for this I employed Elven Archers army...

Ironically, my main character was dual-wielding rogue with poison, etc. as well -- she was a beast of a tank, and often the only one left standing in my combats... and ditto, only needed Elven Archers for the dragon 'cos had no heavy ranged ability at that point... lol

Think my second playthru will be with an Elf Mage, but didn't use Wynne or Leliana last time, so am thinking Zevran or Leliana as my main lockpicker?? Suggestions?

I played through on normal without using any of the armies at any point. I plan to do the same on hard the next time. Frankly, there were tougher fights in the game than anything in the end game. And I expect those people who are doing solo nightmare runs don't use any armies either, so they aren't needed.

Besides, didn't you listen to Wynne's story about how the Grey Wardens battled and the kings lost none of their men? Or aren't you greedy enough for XP that you'd rather make the kills than let those blue allies steal them from you? ;)

BTW, my DW Rogue killed the dragon with a bow - well, the cut scene showed otherwise, but I was firing my bow when it was triggered for me. Also, I'm pretty sure the dragon was on one of those platforms you couldn't actually get to without flying. But whatever.
