Hey peeps

I was looking forward to ME2 with my ME save but sadly I got the ring of death on my xbox but lost my save when the store exchanging my xbox wouldn't let me keep my old HDD :crying:

Luckily the game allows you to kind of carry some choices over into ME2, but I don't know if i did something wrong and this may be hard to say without inserting spoilers......

At the end of ME you have a choice to make, which 'side' to save when the final attacking is about to happen along with who to put in charge....but it seems my ME2 is showing the opposite to what I actually did in ME and I don't think I had the option to carry this over with the ME2 system without the save.

Anyone got any insight on this?

SPOILERS

Are you saying you WERE able to carry over the save or not? If not then basically what happens is...it's VERY Pro-Human and mostly everyone on your former crew is dead. Between Alenko and Ash it's the person with the sex opposite to yours that ISN'T dead. I wasn't able to specify weither I saved one or the other Miranda basically just asks WHY u saved so and so over so and so not WHO did u save. But when I imported I was able to however choose Anderson or Udina and something esle which slips my mind.

If your carry over works properly once u import it there'll be a screen that basically has a summary as to what you did. If it's wrong I heard that some ppl were having issues importing.

If you don't have your saves due to your red ring then you're stuck with the horrible Renegade default Shep.

I'm saying that I werent able to, I lost my saves.

I did try my best on ME to be a paragon style shepard, so this is a shame.  I thought Bioware would at least add a few more questions from Miranda to allow you to get more out of ur story from ME WITHOUT the save.

SPOILERS

Nah they don't you pretty much start with a blank slate meaning no renegade or paragon points who killed rachni queen, killed wrex, kill the same sex between alenko and ash, killed shila/green asari, killed the council however you did put anderson in chrage so I guess that's a plus to the huge body count so on so forth. I've yet to find someone my default me2 non-import shep didn't kill.

Personally I'd start over on ME1 if I were you, since those choices are obvioiusly not paragon choices.  My me2 non-import is a my renegade shep.

I made all the 'right' decisions in ME, tried to be the hero rather than some bad boy Shep. I have to say I find this to be quite poor from Bioware because im guessing a lot of people have had xbox problems over the last 2 years and don't have the saves. I now feel the need to buy ME again because whats the point in having this ME2 save carry over if its got a default ME1 save behind it? For all we know some of the major decisions from ME could have a huge effect on ME3 aswell as 2.

Sadly it looks like im going to have to do ME again so I can carry my save over.

Yah it does suck. It annoyed me that they didn't have a little questionnaire before the game starts like I thought it would.

I don't know how XBox works (I'm a PC gamer) but if it's a simple HDD maybe it's possible to dock it to a computer and get someones save and use theirs once u transfer it over to your HDD?? Otherwise at least the game is cheap now.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

Yeah it sucks. I really thought there would be a lot more options when starting ME2 to allow you to get at least all of the major decisons from ME onto the new game.

How hard would it be to get Miranda to ask 10 or so questions instead of 1 or 2........

I'm guessing its more of a tech issue than anything else, cant see Bioware messing it up this much.

Looks like I will have to pick up ME tomorrow (which is a shame because i loved everything about the game apart from the horrible combat )

I simply cannot go thru ME2 as this default Shep and then carry it on to ME3, just feels like im playing on someone elses save.

Spoilers

Ralph can you clarify? I don't really understand ur post.  I did save the coucil on ME, but obviously I have no save to say that I did and after catching up with Anderson I found out that the default Shepard didnt save them and appointed the other guy as leader ( when in my save i chose Anderson )

I'm surprised that the character builder options (ie spacer, sole survivor, war hero) doesn't adjust the story towards paragon/neutral/renegade. Maybe this is laziness on Bioware's part, or an encouragement to buy and play ME1. Though that is pretty unfair. At the very least the big decisions should have been set (rachni, council, etc) and save the minor references for the people who managed to protect their saves (geth data, wrex family armor, etc).

I had lost my original saves 3 reformats ago (my gaming PC tends to be unstable due to all of my tweaking). So I made sure to binge on Mass Effect 1 three days before the release of 2. Luckily since it was the PC version I could bring up the console, and cheat my way through a completionist speed run. God, I like having a gaming computer.

quick questions, because im wondering if i have it wrong with what I did ( it was 2 years ago )

Spoilers!!!!

At the end of ME if you chose to save the council do you still have the option to select Anderson or the other guy ( I forget his name ) as the new leader? because im wondering if I did indeed let the council die or not.

ME1 SPOILERS

Regardless of your decision on saving the council, you are given the opportunity to choose Anderson and Udina (jerk) as human representative.

Thank you, Lysander.

Looks like i will have to get ME again ( I guess you win Bioware )

I have to say that this is quite poor by Bioware, I expected to be able to either pre load the decisions via a questionaire or at least have the Miranda style questioning in game ask a few more questions at least.

If you have a computer that can run the game, there are saved game files of all flavors for the PC version.

Something better was needed tbh, like i said a lot of people will have had xbox problems in the last 2 years, or even sold and had to rebuy one to name a couple of reasons.

The main reason i didnt re do it before was because i read about Bioware saying you would be able to do carry on with ur choices made from ME, I have no problems playing ME again really, its a good game, but now I have ME2 and it feels like im playing someone elses saved game, which sucks. I just do not understand why they talked up this option of the game to carry on without a ME save when its basically only one question and the rest is pre set. Very poor.

Its completely retarded. Im on my 3rd speed run through of me1 right now and I cant stand it. I want to bash my head off the damn wall. There needs to be a quetionaire or 'test' of some sort or a me1 save editor. I hate this crap.

With that said ...I can beat me1 in 9 hours now?

Yep. its terrible really......I don't get why they talked up this option to do it without a save before release when its so poor its unreal. More sales perhaps?

I love BioWare and have played all their games, but this is very, very poor.

Wow, I am not looking forward to running out of saved games anymore. I only have two characters that I can port over because I just never finished playing through with one or two other characters in ME1.

You know what would've been kind of interesting, but I'm sure lots of people would've disliked...if they had randomized those major decisions for new games. Like, each time you started a new game, the game randomized whether or not you saved the Rachni Queen or if you killed Wrex. It would've made it a little more interesting, at least. It sounds like you weren't the nicest of people in your past life if you don't import.

A long quiz would spoil ME1 for new players and even bore them

They could do it throughout the game.  Like, before landing on a specific planet, have Miranda or someone casually ask a question during a really brief cut scene.

Super mild spoilers...

A simple example being when the Normandy arrives on Tuchanka, before you disembark, have a brief cut scene where Miranda says something like, "Didn't you work with a Krogan when you defeated Saren?"  And Shepard could respond, "Yeah, he was killed unfortunately," or, "Yeah, I wonder what happened to him after the attack on the Normandy."

But this way, you would be taking a quiz throughout the game.  Aside from your love interest...I don't think there's any decision you made in ME1 that permeates throughout the all of ME2.  Unless I'm forgetting something.

Pre sets would be nice to allow you to play thru without having to have had 6+ ME saves in order to see different sides of the story.

The questionaire before the game could'a solved this, as you could'a decided how the first game played out for you before starting ME2.
