There's a big difference between simply not telling someone everything, and actually lying about it.  He witholds information from you on many occassions and fills you in after the fact.  He never actually lies to you.

And as far as him trying to break your ties to your old group...  doesn't wash.  He sends you to get Tali, Garrus, to deal with Wrex, etc.

The ones he keeps you out of the loop with are the ones who are blatently not fit for the mission at hand.  While his methods aren't right, his reasoning is sound.

TIM may be many things, but they pulled him off well.  He's smart, he's slimy as all heck, but he's not dumb enough to jeopardize his goal by pissing Shepard off.  Differences or not, he DOES respect Shepard.

That doesn't make it any better. He told Ashley/Kaidan that you were alive, working for Cerberus, and that Cerberus 'may' be behind the colonists' disappearance. He knew what he was doing when he sent that 'info' out, and he knew it would strain your relationship. With the Illusive Man it's always about reading between the lines.

No, Ash didn't like me working for Cereberus so then I just decided to have Miranda as my LI.

No, Ash was the biggest **** to me and only shook my hand - wtf? No way was my Shep going to stay with a woman like that. I'll take Miranda any day over Ash.

I dropped Liara on her head for Tali. No regrets either. Perhaps if Liara wasn't such a cold **** on Illium I'd of stayed loyal.

I'm already sick and tired of seeing crap like this.... and the game hasn't been out a week.  Is this the way it's going to be for the next two years?  If you had seen the good ending to her quest, there's no way you could call her a cold ****

Why did Bioware hide such an important cutscene behind a one-shot dialogue choice?

Did they want players to dislike her?  It's a strange way to sell comic books.

I chose Liara in the first game and am sticking it through til ME3 to see what happens. Honestly, meeting here in ME2 wasn't as bad as I expected. Her change in character didn't bother me in the least.

That just means her romance didn't carry over, if it did, she'd give you a warm hug.  Ash is better than Mrianda, and I really like Miranda, but she doesn't hold a candle to Ash, imo.

Didn't say it did, but Shepard's also not going to pack up and go solo because he witheld info from him/her either.  Lying would have been the last straw, but not being given all the information is SOP for the military.  What Shepard was upset about was the feeling of being used, especially after being told it was his/her show and needlessly putting innocents at risk.  Yet even Shepard had to eventually concede (Paragon or Renegade) that the end justified the means.  The game's moved to a point where even Paragon choices are going to be tinged with Renegade repurcussions.  You'll find many Paragon choices award both points through the game.  Both overtly, and covertly.  TIM I think is mainly the plot device to help stress this fact.

As you said, he's a manipulator but he really never struck me as a liar.  That's what his minions are for.  He himself really has no reason to actually lie about anything.  And given his ego, it's beneath him.  He wants the whole galaxy to know what he's up to, but hides it for stratgegic purposes.

That said, I'm not arguing with you that he isn't a sleeze bag.

I'm tempted to PM Stanley, or Jesse, just to find out if this was intentional, or a bug.

But I assume they delete anything that concerns the ME1 love interests.

Nope I cheated on Ash with Miranda, now Ash's picture is faced down because I can't look at it without feeling guilty.

Note:

If you flirt all the way with a love interest but break up with them just before the final mission and not have sex with them, you'll get the "Shepard stares at the ME1 love interest picture" cutscene, plus an additional conversation with Miranda.

Like this; I was "afraid" I would have to do another play through just for "stayed true" type of ending.

My male Paragon Shepard ended up cheating while my female Renegade Shepard actually stayed loyal.

I intended to not cheat because I have a playthrough that has no Love Interest to explore the other options but when Paragon Shepard hugged Tali during her loyalty mission I realized he was in love with her. My Renegade stayed loyal because she's ruthless and cold hearted most of the time with Liara being the only one to ever see her softer side, to see Liara be cold didn't hurt her any.

Since I would've gone with Tali in ME1 if she was an option, I had to go with her this time around. I plan on going back through ME1 and having no LI. Then I'll play ME2 with Tali as Shepard's sole LI. Oh, and I'll make sure Jack is dead for my ME3 upload file.

No I didn't stay loyal because I sure as hell didn't intend to romance Ashley. I even rejected her before Ilos, but apparently she completely missed the point.

Edit: Should mention I Virmired Kaidan only so I could explore all the dialogue options with Ashley. She's usually the one who gets to eat the nuke in my playthroughs.

Tali is now the main and only subject of my affection.

Man, wish you could rename ME2 saves. Was thinking of using the pre-Suicide Mission time to setup multiple endings (with different women) for ME3, but lack of renaming makes keeping track of things annoying.

I thought being paragon by saving everyone (Rachni, Council, Wrex and so on) and then staying loyal is just too perfect.
I also dislike the change of Liaras character whatever the reasons might be. (From "don't chase Saren to revenge my mother" to whatever she is now). It contraticts my Shepard too much.  Garrus was a nice guy and with the paragon solution of his personal quest he stays paragon.

I wasn't loyal. After seeing how much my sweet Liara had changed I no longer wanted her. I went instead to the perfect genetic woman Miranda. I've found my true woman in the game. No problematic 1000 years.

First playthrough (won't even start the second one until I have enough time), ended up with Tali despite being with Liara in ME 1. The "I went all the way to Illium and all I got was an awkward kiss and headturn after being dead for two years" t-shirt didn't sit well with my Shepard.
