A rough top 3:

- Legion, because his/their back-story and motivations were very interesting IMO. Hope he is back for ME3, didn't get nearly enough time with him.

- Jack, because I was expecting to despise her based on pre-info, but she was very compelling.

- Tali, because she is (and I hate myself for saying it) adorable and after Liara went off the deep end of the rage pool, she and Garrus (and maybe Wrex) are the only stable ones left from ME1.

Of the new ones... Mordin or Grunt were my fav... Not sure which over the other. Jacob and Miranda were also great.

Tali is still #1 though... man I gotta stop saying that in pretty much every post.

Edit===  I dunno how I friggin forgot been talking about him all day.  Legion is my fav new char, by leaps and bounds.  The other four all after him.

Mordin and Legion. Grunt was surprisingly well-done too, especially since I expected to hate him for taking Wrex's place as the team Krogan.

I like Thane. I never use him, but I like talking to him.

Mordin sang Gilbert and Sullivan to me. That makes him win pretty hard in my book. Also, he gave me "the talk". He's awesome.

Of course Garrus's story about "Reach vs Flexibility" is pretty gold.

I forgot about that, I also liked after you recruit him he says something like, 'all the ladies always payed attention to me now you get a chance' about his injuries.

Okay, Zaeed was rushed DLC, but still pretty cool.

New person...Miranda. Favorite overall, Tali!

Zaeed! All the way that guy had my back. If I was ever caught with my pants down he'd be there to concussive shot the enemy like a boss. Mordin and Miranda were good depending on the planet, but Zaeed is a mainstay in my squad!

Of the new squad-mates my favorites go something like this:

Legion; He adds a whole new perspective and depth to the Geth as a whole, very much liked finding that they aren't all anti-organic AI's that seemed to dominate the scope of things in ME1. That and he's just so unique, and I've always thought the Geth were pretty badass to begin with. :P

Grunt; I was upset that they were going to switch out Wrex with some random other Krogan but after doing Grunt's side quest I found I liked both him and the Krogan in general a lot more. His character is surprisingly interesting and at times he feels like a big lovable Krogan puppy. And I suppose in a way he is, only a month or so old, still trying to make sense of himself and his nature. I really liked how he was handled as a character.

Jack; I'm still not entirely sure why but I really do like Jack, a bit of a loose cannon and as renegade as they come, her blunt attitude was surprisingly refreshing. And I felt her history with the less than kind parts of Cerberus made her an ever present reminder to not let all the shiny gear and limitless resourches Cerberus was showering us with cloud our judgment and make us forget that the Illusive Man still wore a set of horns above those cybernetic eyes of his.  Well all that and I'm partial to inked girls :innocent:

Mordin; Some of the best lines in the game came from this guy, I didn't know much about him going into the game but I had expected yet another arrogant "more-intelligent-than-thou" scientist type who'd poke jabs at me for failing to keep up with his hyperactive techno-speak. Needless to say I was very pleasantly surprised, not only is Mordin approachable but he's genuinely fun to talk too.

Miranda; While she's not  a particularly unique character she is handled very well and it's good that through her story and conversation options you can find that she is a lot more than just a "genetically perfect" Cerberus ****, as Jack put it.

Jacob; He's a genuinely likable guy and I'd be glad to have him in my crew any day, but that said his personality does feel a bit like Ashley Williams + ME1 Garrus, although he's more fun to talk to than either of them were.

Samara; While I did like her a lot, something about her just made her less intriguing for me than say, Legion or Jack. Still her loyalty quest was one of the most fun of the bunch, and a good example of non-standard quest set up.

Thane; Like Samara, Thane just didn't quite grab my interest like some of the other crew members.

Zaeed; I like his look and his voice but that's about it, he lost my approval fast on his loyalty mission when he tried to go all Saren on me and blow up the fuel refinery to kill one person. At the end of the mission part of me genuinely was hoping he'd listen to my Shepard and just leave. But at least I was able to make my point and get him to respect my command.

And if I were to Include Tali and Garrus in this list Tali would take the #1 spot, she's just awesome, and Garrus would be #3 right behind legion. They really made Garrus a lot more badass this time around.

Samara. Her warrior-monk like tendencies n overall sex appeal are pretty refreshing. It's a crying shame she isn't romancable though. If we're talking about in combat though, then Miranda is essential because of her 25% squad damage boost.

Legion actually had a lot of interesting things to say about the Geth, and I damned well trusted him - kinda saved my life on the derelict Reaper and helped the team greatly. Legion's geth are peaceful, and if you talk with him enough after each mission (including after the game if possible) you can find that out. They don't really want to keep fighting with the Quarians. It's the former Geth heretics that were a problem.

However, I digress. I loved Thane, Garrus, Tali, Mordin, Samara, Legion, even Grunt, Jack, Jacob and Miranda (and Zaeed even other people aren't keen on him - reminded me of Canderous :P ) - pretty much all of them. Don't make me choose! :P

I had two favorites. Miranda and Grunt are pretty much a tie for me. They're both my first choices in combat, I liked Miranda's character growth, and Grunt's situation was a very interesting one.

Forgot to mention, zaeed was the worst character for ME2 imo. Couldn't even engage him in dialog on he normandy.

He had potential, he just seemed unfinished. I liked his one liners.

Mordinnn.

His constant necessity to validate what he did (that whole genophage thing) made him a very sympathetic character, even though he neither needs nor wants sympathy or pity. I kept expecting him to say, 'I did the right thing. ... didn't I?" or something to that effect.

Legion makes for a very close second, and - naturally - Tali is the bestestest squad-mate over-all. Dem hips. <3
