played fine for few days then got error.... again...took 3 days to get running soon after
purchase from EA. At this rate I'll be trying to read the end credits from a nursing home.

If I recall correctly, this is mostly a digital download problem, and you need to look at these archives to find out about it:
www.google.com/search
There is a correct way to describe a PC game problem in order to assist the diagnostics, and no one who had added any comment here so far, has followed the prescribed reporting procedure, so it's no wonder that there has been no answer to anyone here. None of you has been serious enough about getting a usable answer. Sorry, folks, it's just facts, and if your feelings are hurt, you have my regrets.

Description:
My Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition has been working perfectly all the way through the Origins campaign and a couple of DLCs. I downloaded the Witch Hunt standalone installer, incorrectly believing it to be the patched version of the DLC, and ran it. The installation completed successfully.
Now, each time I select Play from the launcher, an Activate Your Game screen comes up, asking me to sign in with my EA account. Needless to say, my game has already been activated. When I fill in my account details and click Sign In, the screen vanishes, then returns with the following message:
"We're sorry, an error has occurred.
Error: there is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall the game."
I have tried downloading the patched version of Witch Hunt and installing it using DAUpdater, but this has made no difference. I am loathe to reinstall the game, since it is a highly time-consuming process (including redownloading the huge installer), and one which does not appear to have helped any other sufferers of this problem.

[BTW, although my computer is a laptop, it’s successfully played other video games, including both Mass Effect games and Fallout 3, with the same hardware and software configuration.]
I installed DA on my computer, and it worked at first. I created a human male noble warrior and began the story. After playing for a few minutes, I saved and quit. I then downloaded and installed all the official content . I tried to start the game again. I received the error message, “There is a problem with your game’s setup. Please reinstall your game.” Since then, I’ve tried deleting all my temp files and shutting down unnecessary programs and processes, as advised by EA tech support, and then starting the game. I’ve downloaded and installed the Microsoft Visual C++ Update patch (vcredist_x86.exe) mentioned in these forums. I’ve tried manually clean booting my computer and then starting DA. I still can’t get my game to start, and I still get the same error message, no matter what. EA tech support hasn’t been able to solve my problem. I have not yet reinstalled my game, as it was very troublesome and time-consuming to install before. Are there any remaining alternatives?

As per what I'd written a month ago to add here, I believed that there were answerrs, just not within this particular message thread. Not yet. Personally it's not happened to me, so I cannot offer you more than the fact that there has already been considerable discussion in those 287 instances.Gorath Alpha wrote...

P. S. If you have experienced the same symptoms, and did come upon a thread somewhere with useful information, why not drop back in and add the link in this thread?

This time around, Google is claiming 256,000 hits, which I really disbelieve. I am much more inclined to believe that it was "287" or maybe 288, still. I've recycled this because of that search count. If my memory was still the very sharp instrument of my less-senior years, I'd be able to help the newest member complaining of this symptom, since I'm so certain that solutions do exist, if he'd searched for them.Gorath Alpha wrote...
