Yes, because it was moved here afterwards :P.

@ topic

I thought it was alright.

Thing that bothers me a bit is that RtO had its focus on items instead of story.

Reminds me of WoW, not of DA:O.

2) Can't see the forest for the trees.  I would say more, but see 1 above.

Now you can say more smart guy - pray enlighten us with your penertrating insight.

The obvious problem from people in a battle like that is how much of the field of battle they can see.  Cailan's part of the troops fought with incredible stupidity.  Instead of holding a line and fighting in formation, they charged in a ragged line and ended up in a free for all.  Any individual that ended up in an area with a lot more darkspawn than troops would believe their odds were poor.  This could happen even if the army had been beating the darkspawn, because on that battleground they had a very limited view.  While the army didn't win, this is besides the point.  Cailan and his soldiers never had any decent view of the battle after the initial part as they got off the raised platform and joined the fray.  So estimations of their ability to win or not by people who couldn't see the big picture, don't mean much.  They can't see the forest for the trees.

Some of the people with the best view of the area would have been the archers firing from the bridge across the gorge, and any others in similar high ground (such as the top of the Tower of Ishal, assuming not too much was blocked from view).

Loghain also had a limited view.  As far as we know, there are no survivors that actually had a good view of the battle.  So we are still left not knowing whether the battle really could not be won.

Not to mention there is luck involved in such things.  Surely you've seen two teams from your favorite sport play against each other multilple times with different results.  The odds may favor one side over another, but the exact outcome can't truly be predicted.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I liked RTO. I give an 8 out of 10. But I included it has part of my dwarf noble playthrough. I did it right after Lothering. It gave me exactly what BioWare said it would 1-2 hours of play and closure on King Cailan. I gain some insight on Cailan's plans and what Arl Eamon was thinking.
I also did it with my Human noble save at the end of the game. Depending on who you bring you get different but not extensive dialogue.
As far as Alistair getting choke up because it is his half-brother, not going to happen. He barely knew the man except for meeting him once. Alistair only knew his half brother as King Cailan. It is not like they grew up together. Just like his half sister Goldanna. He did not know them.
As afar as endless respawning of darkspawn that is just tedious and adds no value for me.
I got and will keep getting my money's worth and that is all that matters to me. That is my opinion YMMV.

I agree fully with the OP on this. I enjoyed it, but it felt half-done to me. My comparison comes not from a FPS, or a hamburger, or a movie, but from the other DLC for this very same game. By comparison, Warden's Keep and the Stone Prisoner are masterworks and this is a patchwork that gives out a few pieces of gear that someone thought would be cool to have.

I wish I had a screen shot of the original blurb for RtO because I had a different impression of it. I thought the person we would find would truly be someone we encountered IN THE GAME, not some dungeonmaster's version of "you remember seeing this guy" when you really didn't.

I get the feeling that there might have been something more in it that got pulled out, which would explain why the whole thing felt so devoid of content. Also, there should have been more dialogue voice-acted for the companions. After all, if you do this right after Lothering you wouldn't even HAVE Wynne, but you might have Leliana and Morrigan. Why does Morrigan give a disapproval but never voices a concern? Even someone brought up in the wilds must recognize the value in properly disposing of a body.

True--they were not close.  In a dialogue with Wynne, he even refers to Cailan as his "brother" (with the quotes).

Based on the advertisements and other marketing I saw for RTO, I was expecting a lot more emotional content from the story.  This is where Duncan died, for goodness sake, yet the story felt very flat--hardly any strong emotional reactions from the NPCs (and I took the ones who were originally at Ostagar).  And as one other poster mentioned, Alistair's reaction to a certain thing they find at Ostagar was a bit cold and not at all how I'd expect him to react.

It felt more like I was just there to get loot instead of being there to get redemption/closure for Duncan and Cailan.  And that little "boss" they constantly show cut scenes of was more laughable than menacing.  I got bored halfway through and wondered--is this it?  Personally, I think what they really needed was more cutscenes and/or conversations between the NPC and the PC showing the emotional reactions/thoughts of the NPCs.  Even Warden's Keep, as unrelated to the main campaign plot as it was, felt more 'alive' because you could see the reactions and emotions of the NPCs through all the interactive cutscenes and flashbacks.

or maybe it was boring because I was lvl 21 when I went through--still, I don't think the lack of emotional content of the DLC was related to character level.

Oh well, hopefully Awakenings will be better.

1. Nice loot

2. It's at least a bit that I hadn't seen before in my other playthroughs

3. The 'Cailan Letters' made very good backstory

4. Way more fun than the Oblivion 'Horse Armor' DLC.

Got diddly on character dialog, becuase it was my first stop after Lothering and had Morrigan, Lei, and Sten in my party. I'm sure if I try it with other chars and at different stages in the game it might uncover more good stuff. Someone suggested taking Loghain through - like to see how that turns out.

Low points - area boss too wimpy, new darkspawn types interesting to see, but didn't seem to affect battle much.

It was good, but it was missing something. I felt it could have been more emotional, more darkspawn, maybe a minor fight with the archdemon (who would fly away and mend his wounds).

As for Alister getting emotional, after the cut scene of Calin is over, mouse over his body and click when the "!" shows up. Alister has more to say.

As for the Big Mac meal thingy, not a good comparison, after all I'll get to play this DLC on my next run through as a ranger, then as a warrior, etc... the only way you can do that with a Big Mac Meal is... (well its kind of gross.....)

No sign or mention of Duncan leads me to believe we have not seen or heard the last of him.

That was the best part of the DLC.

I was dissapointed that Calin's armor wasn't completely Dragonbone, but instead, it could vary from Red Steel to Dragonbone. In my case, I got a Red Steel Piece (The Chest), 2 Silverite, and 1 Dragonbone (Boots). I thought Maric's Sword should have been that giant 2-handed weapon we see the King sporting in the cut-sceen. Maric's Sword should have been Dragonbone. I think the DLC was worth 5 bucks, but for all the time spent on it, I expected something a bit more robust.
