I have seen so many chests but thye are locked without even finding a key. Are these only usefull if you have a rogue?

Rogues are the only way to unlock chests.

Well, you can rest easy because...

*SPOILERS? You were warned!*

There is rarely anything important or valuable in locked chests. It generates more income for your party, but you aren't missing out on much if you skip the chests entirely.

There are, however, a few occasions when lockpicking can genuinely help you out, but I won't spoil the surprise. :)

Why even put them in game if you aren't going to use them correctly?

I say that whether or not they are used "correctly" is subjective to the tastes of the individual gamer.

Personally, I like that I am not missing out on fantastical, amazifying lewtz by skipping some chests, and the occasions when lockpicking does come in truly handy are all the more rewarding.

Also, it is worth noting that if you do pick all of these locked chests and sell what you find inside, you can use that money to purchase fantastical, amazifying lewtz from one of Ferelden's many vendors. :)

Lockpicking certainly has it's uses.

What's in the chests is irrelevent. It's a gaming concept that really needs to die because it makes no sense. Anyone with big enough shoulders can bash doors and locks.

Flying dragons and magical enchanted staves perhaps don't make a lot of sense either, but in a fantasy world, one may sometimes be required to suspend disbelief. :)
