I have seen so many chests but thye are locked without even finding a key. Are these only usefull if you have a rogue?

Rogues are the only way to unlock chests.

I would say that it is in fact you who are useless, not the chest. :P

Yeah it sort of saddens me how many locked chests I am seeing in the beginning. You'd think at least 1/3 of them would have a mechanism for unlocking without having to be a Rogue.

Not to mention certain doors in a certain origin.

Why should they? That lessens the incentive to bring a rogue along.

some one will probably eventually use the mod tools to create a bash skill

This is really stupid. Mage's have always had unlock abilities and why can't you bash them open?

the npc rogues in your party can open them if you switch to them.

Don't worry too much, most chests have pretty mundane contents.

Bash skill would be helpful. I'm not very happy with only one option to open chests. Oh well.

I think the issue here is that there are locked chests and doors before you are presented with the ability to add a rogue to your party. While I agree this is sort of annoying, the reasoning is already working on me. I find myself contemplating a rogue for my next main character and I'm only 6 hours in.

Replayability should never be a bad thing.

I agree that adding all those locked chests and doors at the beginning of my origins game is very disheartening. People say bring along a rogue, but alas there is no rogue to be found at the beginning and yet there are locked items placed at the beginning of my warrior origin?!

Perhaps to distinguish DA: Origins from D&D in an effective way. Posted Image

I wondered why there wasn't an option for bashing the chests open as well, but come to think of it, chests could maybe be seen more as storage device, made of say iron? or be like a strong box made out of metal?

That's only a small tip of the hat to rogue characters - you are not missing anything really.

Warrior isn't an Origin. There are locked chests because that's an Origin available to Rogues, as well. It's for them.

Until you open them and be disappointed with the contents. Why are some of you so obsessed with opening every chest?

But that means you always have to have 1 party slot dedicated to either of the rogue likes or your main be a rogue like.

Yes.  The game operates with preference towards a balanced party (one of each class, 4th of what you like).
