Sure Alistair might be a "King of the common people" but would that truly help their lot in life? Anora would develop Ferelden's economy, and it's infrastucture making it easier for the common folk to improve their lives. Gold is needed to build new things, and no matter how nice and cuddly Alistair is it would not bring in new gold to the nation.

Besides, who cares about the Alienage? It's just filled with elves anyway.

How can she make it easier for them to improve their lives if she won't even go out n talk to them n see for herself what they might be needing...

Elves are people too n they are needed just as much as anyone else

Personally Alistair is a better ruler than Anora... I see Alistair as mingling with the people of Ferelden, actually going n getting involved if there's a problem, n taking care of it himself if he can. Anora strikes me as the kind of person who'd make someone else go n see what the problem is n letting them take care of it...

That's kind of what you're supposed to do when you're a monarch, though...going off by yourself means you likely are not looking at the bigger picture and taking care of the problems that affect more than a few people (such as building the ecomony, as has been pointed out).  If you go wandering around the kingdom just mingling with people all the time, who's doing the ruling for you?

I'm not talking about spending every waking moment away from your duties, maybe a couple times a month or even once a month actually going out n seeing for your own eyes what could be improved, etc... The rest of the time your doing what your suppose to be doing making sure your on top of the economy etc...
But also while your doing your tour you can see oh maybe if I do this not only can I make my people happy but also boost the economy n the people are happier knowing ther monarch is actually looking out for their interest not just their own n is not afraid to leave their quaint precious palace... In order to be a "good ruler" you've got to be able to go that extra mile n if people see that your willing to go that extra mile then the benefits will come pooring two-fold... It's a win-win situation n if word is spread that not only are you a good monarch but your willing to see for yourself how things can be improved then people will take notice n that in itself can help with the economy.

Oh you mean the moment where she's in disguise and sensibly asks you to STFU so she can sneak away rather than being apprehended by Loghain's people and taken to her father where she'll be unable to help you stop him or Howe's people who will kill her and she'll be unable to help you.  That's the moment you're talking about.

That scene actually reminded me of a movie where an undercover cop had to shoot his partner because he was at risk of having his cover blown.  Anora's only hope of getting away and being able to help you is to ensure she is not associated with you, she can clear up the kidnapping misunderstanding later but only if she can avoid capture.

Exactly my thoughts  whenever I first played through. Yeah, it was kinda like B****WHAT? at first, but then I realized why she must have had to do what she did and it was all cool. She was a good queen in the end, anyway.

Am I the only person who doesn't mind/kinda likes Anora's character? Just curious.

You get an elven uprising with her that you don't get with Alistair, so that's a downside.... I dislike her greatly--too much like Loghain. I made her queen once and it didn't sit well with me. I could never bring myself to make Alistair marry her. Too, too cruel in so many ways....

i quite like her. i also love the hint of smugness that she seems to have when telling alistar that he's going to take the old dirt nap - that just pleases me to no end.

Wow people are so different. I absolutely adore Queen Anora The Great. She is such a cunning strategist - more so than her father Loghain. I reckon she is a "Thick Face Black Heart" adept. After the rescue when you talk to her in private about supporting her bid to remain on the throne - I would be quite happy if there was an option that allowed you to say - "I am yours to command my Queen".

It's certainly remarkable to see that Anora is not universally hated, I think that award goes to either Arl Howe or Vaughn. Sometimes I find that this worldwide hatred of her is being blown clompletely out of proportion. I'm not saying it's unjustified, but I do think those people are focusing entirely too much on the negativity. But let's face it there are no pure white, or pure good characters in Dragon Age, everyone has their dark side.

There were a few things I regretted after making her queen, like when she came down hard on the alienage, and made worse when my character, a Male Human Noble who became her consort and her royal chancellor, did nothing to prevent or at least repair the damage.

The only bad thing about Anora is that you have to be a MHN to get her - the reason for my 2nd PC to be exactly that.;-)

My adventures with Anora...

At Howe's estate: "Oh Ser Catrien, please save me from this loathsome Warden!"
At Eamon's estate: "Well of course I said that, you exposed me to my dad's lackey, and I told you I'm afraid dad wants to kill me!"
At the Landsmeet: "I support my daddy dearest, whom I trust above all else!"

Geez, BS-ing much, Anora dear?

Not no mention I find it highly suspicious that Howe's corpse is still warm (and in a dungeon) and Ser Righteous is already banging at the door, apparently knowing all the details. Little bird told her, perhaps? Or some mysterious dark-haired knife-ear with horrible accent? If you ask me, that whole 'help I have absolutely no trusted bodyguard/knight/soldier/spy/advisor whom I could trust more than some stranger" thing was just her Majesty making sure she has a dirt on me in case she needs to dispose of me, nice and legal.
Well, I'll make sure to have her killed this time. I have hardened Alistair already.

if you talk to Loghain after you recruit him he pretty much states that the whole "Daddy is gonna murder me!!!" was pretty much just to satisfy Anoras ego

I found Anora very sympathetic - if you support her for queen. As a human male noble, she's quite open to the idea of marrying you, and has several complimentary things to say about having a "strong man" by her side, although she won't make you full king. I think most people don't like her because they support Alistair and it makes her into a b!tch - gotta admit she knows what she wants and goes after it! In my version Alistair was not hardened and did not want to be king, anyway, so I had no trouble supporting Anora, and persuading her to take a strong man for her consort. ;)

Heh, Anora is open to marrying a Cousland because that gives her claim to the throne a legitimacy it otherwise does not. We're not talking a minor noble, we're talking the second most powerful family in Ferelden, only second to the Theirin line.

Say what? How does that work? "My little girl looks a little down today, I'll pretend I want to kill her to make her feel better" ?

no Loghain had no intension to kill his own daughter and Anora knew it

she pretty much strung you along for ****'s and giggles so to speak and to garner sympathy and hopefully your support for the throne
