Hello, guys.

Like many of you tweakers I came up with a problem that ME2 crashed upon editing of Coalesced.ini. It turns out that Bioware programmers didn't care much about ppl who'd like to edit extended game settings and are not processing a case when .ini file has been edited. Recently some guy wrote a Ruby script to fix that file after it's been edited. However you needed to install Ruby environment on your PC to use that script.

I didn't like that Ruby install thing and wrote a program in C++ that doesn't need anything else to run. Here it is:

http://www.apartment...ME2IniFixer.zip
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H1A7TN50

Just put it to \\\\BioGame\\\\Config\\\\PC\\\\Cooked and launch every time after you've edited the file.

You should keep in mind that Coalesced.ini is a binary file, which means that it contains important symbols that are not visible to your ordinary text editor. So, saving the file with Windows Notepad will render it useless. You'll need an editor which is capable of dealing with binary files to edit Coalesced.ini

I suggest either Notepad2 or Notepad++:
http://www.flos-free...h/notepad2.html
http://notepad-plus....uk/download.php

Happy Tweaking!

P.S.: the readme's in Russian since I am Russian, I didn't feel much like translating :) If you care for what's written there, try using Google Translate.

can you do me and many of us out there a big favor and check to see if you can make the dead bodies stay longer?  here is the file location:  :  Coalesced file/Mass Effect 2/BioGame/Config/PC/Cooked

m_fCorpseCleanupFirstAttemptTime=5.0  ;How many seconds to wait until the first corpse cleanup attempt

I suppose changing the 5.0 to a larger number, say 100.0 might work.  Thanks!

That was one of the first things I wanted to tweak in ME2. I saw that section in Coalesced.ini, tried with all various values, but to no avail :( I have also seen ppl on Russian forums, who tried playing around with this valiues, with no result either. Bodies just disappear as soon as you turn the camera away and walk around a bit.

It seems that these parameters are not parsed or not respected by the game's engine.

I'd very much like to see the "no disappearing bodies mod" too :)

hmm...  then maybe it has something to do with the camera.  if i remember correctly, there are clean-up parameters regarding the camera and distance.  maybe there values can be changed?

There're 5 parameters in section [SFXGame.BioArtPlaceable]:

m_nMaxCorpseVisibilityCleanupAttempts=4
m_fCorpseCleanupFirstAttemptTime=5.0
m_fCorpseCleanupAttemptRetryTime=2.0
m_fMaxCorpseCleanupDistanceThreshold=4000.0
m_fMaxCorpseCleanupScreenSizeThreshold=0.20

I tried messing with them all - nothing changes.

Or you meant something else?

yeah, thats them.  I think there isnt much we can do at this point.  Maybe we can ask Bioware to make a change in the next patch...

That's a nice idea, actually. Do any of Bioware devs answer on these forums? Any idea, who could be PMd with this?

Yeah, I suggest contacting Chris Priestly.  He answered one of my questions about dissapearing bodies  when Dragon Age first came out.  The issue was addressed in patch 1.02, so yes I do think its worth a try.  Im sure most players out there would like to see soemthing be done about the bodies

What about a friendly fire settings or for a console, similar like in Mass Effect 1. If you point out and charge Cain Nuclear weapon at your allies, but not fire it, they will object with words, like friendly fire, don't shot me at the back.

Please respond.

Sorry, that I didn't try. I believe it was possible to enable console in ME1, probably the same method will work for ME2.
And I wouldn't like to enable friendly fire :) However, there're lots of topics about ME2's .ini editing around the web, you should try looking around.

Just looking forward to a save game editor. Getting bored with mining planets and want a way to hack more resources into the savegame so I can just research the upgrades when I get them.

Timed research would have been better than this boring mining business.

Got bored of mining either. I tried editing save games - all resource values are easily found, but save games are protected from editing for god knows what reason. If I change a value of a single byte inside the save game file, it's recognized as corrupt by the game. Probably, they store some kind of same game file's hash along with saved data.
Probably, changing values inside runnig game's memory might help, haven't tried that yet. You may try luck with cheating programs like ArtMoney

UPD: Some guy has written a save game editor. You can adjust the resources there. Kudos to him!

Thanks so much for providing this program!

Google translation of Corvin's readme (not perfect, but perfectly understandable):

Corvin666 wrote...
This program allows you to avoid falling Mass Effect 2, after editing the file Coalesced.ini.

Put it in the directory / BioGame / Config / PC / Cooked and run every time after editing. It will create a backup copy with the name Coalesced.ini.bak and overwrite the original Coalesced.ini

File Coalesced.ini - binary. This means that it contains important symbols are not visible in ordinary text editors, but are fundamental in his reading of the game. Standard vindovyh [Windows?] editor Notepad can not correctly save the file with these characters, so for effective editing this file you will need an editor that can. For example:

Notepad2 -
http://www.flos-free...h/notepad2.html

Notepad + + -
http://notepad-plus....uk/download.php

Happy Tweaking!

-------------- Geek info -------------

File Coalesced.ini is a binary, hired from a variety of configuration. Ini files. Section, responsible individual. Ini file looks like this: [size of the header] [header - the name. Ini file] [data size] [frame]. The file consists of a header file (which can determine if it is not the file or a touch sticky knobs Notepad'a) and consecutive sections corresponding to different.  Ini files. If there are changes in some of the sections, the number in the "block size" stops responding real picture. Programmers from Bioware did not bother to handle this situation and as a result of the game drops. Therefore, after each change in the size of the data block must change the number that determines the size at the beginning of this section.

Nice one for those that want to (or just like to) manually edit the file.

There's also a dedicated editor for those that don't want to (or can't) manually edit their file.

It can be located here:
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/834703

I'm going to add this fixer link to the tools section because it would also be useful for those creating automation scripts that need to insert a rebuild into it somewhere.
