Hey, I keep getting a General Protection Fault right after the splash screen. I updated all drivers to the newest versions and did a clean install of the game yet still get a crash everytime the screen goes black.

I'm also getting this.

This is my second time of playing trough.
This time i have got both the Bring Down The Sky and the Pinnacle Station addons.

At first I had a few faults that went away with upgrading the GPU drivers.

But now the game crashes when i try and land on Feros!
I see the cut scene of the Normandy docking on the planet.
The game goes back into the Normandy and a quick save is fired off...then it hangs.
Alt+Tab out and i see this huge GPF error message.

I kill the application and all processes and try to launch the game again, this time i click resume...but the game hangs on the loading screen with the MassEffect Relay spinning around.

I have tried as running in XP sp2+3 mode, but no good.
I have tried running as admin, but no good.

I saw someplace that BioWare are asking for help and want us to send our dump files in.
I have loads, where should i send them?
I'm real keen to get this sorted so i can get me a cool save file to play in ME2...please help BioWare
....i even bought a hoodie to show support...Image IPB

[edit] - just a thought...has any one actually tried rolling back the drivers to an older version?

Thats one of the reasons I rolled back my nvidia gfx drivers to version 17x.xx something in windows xp. Since the game doesn't seem to like newer versions of the drivers. Also those drivers seems to work the best with another game called Risen, newer ones would stutter kinda.

Try moving out or deleting the file called BIOEngine.ini (\\\\Documents and Settings\\\\User\\\\My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect\\\\Config directory in Windows XP, or \\\\Users\\\\[User]\\\\Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect\\\\Config in Windows Vista.) so the game re-creates it, and see if it stops the gpf error. Could be worth a try if you've updated the drivers. Also use the repair option in MEconfig utility and click delete local shader cache.

Quote from link above.

Mass Effect holds all of its main settings in a range of .ini (initialization) files found under your \\\\Documents and Settings\\\\User\\\\My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect\\\\Config directory in Windows XP, or \\\\Users\\\\[User]\\\\Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect\\\\Config in Windows Vista. These .ini files can be viewed and edited using a text editor like Windows Notepad, but I recommend backing them up before changing any settings. If something goes wrong and you want to return these files to their defaults, simply delete them and they'll be recreated using the original templates (found under \\\\Program Files\\\\Mass Effect\\\\Engine\\\\Config) the next time you start the game. For this reason, don't ever edit or delete the Base .ini files or any other .ini files found under the game's directories; make sure to only edit those under the user directory specified further above.

Yeah i tried this but no good.

I think this is how i fixed the Bring Down the Sky issue...i would get large black untextured objects and a crash when talking to the Salarian chap there.

I'll try the graphics drivers roll back (i also undrestand teh Phyisx drivers have been updated, so i'll roll that back too)
Do you know where i can get old nvidia drivers??

www.nvidia.com Click "Beta and Archived Drivers" which is located further down below "Additional Software and Drivers".

Pick your card model, and OS you use, also change it to show just Recommended/Certified drivers. Though I wouldn't recommend trying too old drivers on Windows 7 if you use that since the older ones are for beta version of w7.

www.guru3d.com

Custom tweaked slimmed down drivers(just the driver and control panel):

Also try browsing the old forums:

Nice one.

I'll let you all know how i get on..if your interestead.

[Edit#1] - Doing it right now.
downloaded the 2009.07.02 drivers.....installing...
After 3 reboots and an error saying installation failed, im back into tmy pc.

Game loads, i can do other things and land on other planets, but can not land on Feros.
The movie playes, but then whe the game returns to the Normandy, it save quickly (even though i have dissabled autosave..) then hangs and i get the error message.

Running a debug in Visual Studio 2010 an message is shown saying 'please forward this file to support@securom.com!!!!

[Edit#2]
I mailed the error files to securom as suggested.  nothing back yet.

Installed the DirectX drivers that came on the CD
reinstalled masseffect and both DLCs.

low and behold!  it works again.
I havnt installed the 1.02 patch (unless that goeson automatically)

...funny thing is...i cant alt tab out!  hahahahaha!
but the game works.
try uninstalling and reinstalling guys, might just work.

ME1 PC players have been moved out, to share forum space with the Xbox360 version of the ME1 game (they didn't immediately move this thread, so after they finally did so, my comment here isn't in context any longer).

Register your game here on this site...it's nice to know we're not dealing with hacked/cracked/pirated copies of the game.

Laptops are generally a poor choice for ME2 gaming, but many folks have made it work.

You'll have to give more to get more...

ruminate on those for awhile...let us know how it goes,

Further to Baramons advice, if it is actually for ME1, please post in the ME1 forums.
