Uhh, are arrows meant to be rare in the beginning?

Ok.  I am level 7 now, almost 8... I have an apparent "archer" in my party yet no where have I seen a place where I can purchase just regular arrows... One place selled super expensive fire and cold arrows... But where can I find a merchant that just sells ordinary arrows... it seems highly unusual that you'd have to wait this long.

Did you run out of normal arrows yet? Can you see how many normal arrows you've got in your party inventory? No, because they don't exist. Non-magical ammo is unlimited. Image IPB

You don't need regular arrows, equipping a bow is considered as having them, so they are unlimited.

The fire/cold arrows you mention are sort of like power-ups.

Characters have infinite regular arrows. No need to buy or find any. You can equip the elemental arrows in the quiver and once they are gone it'll revert to firing the normal arrows again.

Enchanted arrows (those that do some elemental damage) are in finite supply but regular arrows are infinite. Just having a bow equipped will have infinite basic amunition.

On that note, how much more effective are the fire/cold etc arrows compared to the standard arrows?

The only arrows you run into are special arrows, such as the fire and cold arrows you mentioned. Without any special arrows equipped, your bow will fire an unlimited amount of regular arrows. There is no need to buy them.

It may be a good idea to save those special arrows for important fights.

Edit: Ah, beaten to the punch. About 8 times. I should probably refresh more often.

Good to know. Didn't realise that.

I didn't know this, either. In fact, since one of my nameless companions switched from bow to sword at one point without prompting, I figured he ran out of arrows.

Not to worry. We expect you to be doing something far more important than monitoring these forums 24/7. Something like, say, working on the next DA installment...  :)

Oh I see... I just thought it was odd that my rogue character "set as archer in tactics" always seems to switch over to a sword and shield

Do consumables like those special arrow stacks have a weight value ? If so, how do ya tell how much it costs to lug around x numberof arrows?

All the same, we value our community greatly and keeping the lines of communication open between us and our fans IS a very important thing! :)

I was having this problem as well, until I switched their behavior from "Default" to "Ranged". It's in the upper right corner of the tactics menu.

Check your tactics. You might have something set up so that if any enemy is on top of you, you switch to melee or something?

I had no idea having a bow/xbow equipped meant infinite normal ammo! Would've been useful to see a tooltip to clarify. I thought that the reason my companions were switching to melee weapons was because they were running out of fire/ice arrows or being attacked at melee range. I found myself thinking why isn't there a fletching skill in this game and where is the quiver slot on my char? It certainly seems that way because the default Archer tactics have Leilana set to use Dirty Fighting when attacked with a melee weapon.

It's funny, though, that every time I do the Korcari Wilds I end up with a few regular arrows/quivers (unlimited in quantity). Of course I always sell them, but it puzzles me they out those in.

No you don't Seeker341... you are confusing items. There are no "regular" arrows to be found.

I figured as characters were using arrows without any actual arrows equipped they were infinite. *shrug*

There are "regular" arrows, I've had them show up, but they don't do anything - it seems to be caused by something allowing you to unequip the quiver icon that appears when you equip a bow. So Seeker341 is correct, although it is just a bug, as normal arrows are indeed infinite.

The Rogue NPC in Korcari Wilds has a bow iirc, so that would be the source.

Actually it happens when temporary NPCs leave your party. All their stuff is put into your inventory including their arrows if they have a bow equipped.
