OK I've been trying to find someone on these fourms with the same problem I have with no luck. When I get to the quarintened area on station Omega looking for the Doctor, shepard ends up in the ceiling walking in the air and I get stuck. Rest of the party follows. I have to load the game at the autosave(restart from a point where it was working ok) if I save and restart I'm in the air. I had no freezing, lock up or sound issues this is the only problem I'm having so far. I have a Dell XPS 720 with an Core 2 E8400 3.0 ghz 4 GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 I run in Raid 0 2 Hard drives. I use a Sound Blaster PCI XFI Extreme Music SB460 driver 6.0.1.1373 NVIDIA/BFG 9800GT driver 8.17.11.9562 My OS is Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Like I said game was running flawless until this point
PLEASE HELP ME BIOWARE email me at dem82652@aol.com anyone with possible fix!

It happened to me once on the planet where Kaiden is living. Its just a bug that happens now and then. I guess nothing is perfect. I had to restart game and avoid that spot where I all of a sudden popped up into the air on a box

It happened to me, too in the same area, but the solution was to reload and move inside the clinic very carefully, so as not to get too close to any obstacles (tables, etc). In other places I didn’t have such problems at all… Try to quick save often, so you could reload (but a quick save must be made when everything seems fine, with neither you nor companions floating, and away from any objects there, i.e. in the middle of the room). Maybe that will help.

It's happened to me in a few places. Its not likely to be something that needs a game restart just reload.

Not sure of the reasons but all that's happening is you some how end up walking on the bounding area perhaps it occurs cause we press a combination of movement keys near the edge that some how tricks the checks and you end up on walking on the wrong surface.

I've got the problem too, and it looks like I have to restart the Archangel mission to resolve because I saved while stuck thinking that a reload would resolve the issue. I've been getting the issue often, but usually can walk/flail around enough that eventually I fall back to the ground. It seems that my character is automatically stepping on top of some obstacles, and that is when it occurs - he steps on counters or such that he really shouldn't be able to.

So far it's happened in the Tutorial

The room with the hacking and decryption tutorials, by walking near the bench at the far end.

And on the MSV Estenanico

On the last girder that you walk across.

On both occasions reloading the last save and redoing it has been fine.

Tried to access developper console like in ME1 when I was stuck in the air (I'm also stucked on the MSV Estenanico mission) but the engine crashes everytime I try to set another key than "Tilde" to call the console ; as I do not have an english keyboard. Tried to remove french keyboard setting in the Windows settings, games consider it as an US keyboard but console can not still be called.

Would be fine if Bioware could tell us a way to unlock it so we can debug the game by ourselves while waiting for a patch.

In all cases I've been able to storm my way off, but it's a huge pain that should have been caught and fixed.

It happens to me all the time when I use the vanguard charge. If I use the vanguard charge down a hill, it happens almost without fail. Very frustrating. I'm sure it'll be fixed quickly though.

Just installed the game with its dlc's.

Being stuck in mid air is real annoying in that 1st space station,

ruins the game's feel a bit.

Anybody knows how patches/updates are handled with this game,

is it automatcally downloaded and installed ?

SOLUTION:

To get unstuck, what you need to do is spam the Melee key while tapping a,d,s,w and the space key for about 10 seconds. Once your character starts to move, keep meleeing and walking in the direction you touched that made you go up and eventually you fall down! This has worked for me 4/4 times. :D No reload of your last save needed!

This bug really needs to be fixed! <_<

Yeah, except that doesn't work when you can't freaking melee in a non-combat area, now does it?

Anyone have a console command to jerk you out of this? If I can't get out I've wasted about 35 minutes of gameplay because I simply didn't save, and I honestly might uninstall the game for all the bugs I'm experiencing if not.

On the up side, the view when you walk outside of Omega is pretty neat.

I was pretty ambivalent about the clipping prob until I got stuck in the Dantius towers after a lengthy fight and had to do it all over again...

Practice makes perfect, I reckon...

This wouldn't be a problem if for some asinine reason, Bioware didn't disable the development console. I've been stuck like this a total of 6 times now.

I understand that you people have paid your money for the game and thus it's completely natural that you expect to get a flawless product. Nevertheless I'd like to tell you this - I have spent dozens of hours with Unreal Development Kit, so I believe I can say that I understand it's workflow, it's demands, it's limitations, etc. And frankly when I look at all those amazing environments in ME2 and realize how incredibly complex and detailed they are, I am quiet surprised that the geometry problems you speak about happen so rarely.

As I've said, I understand that such flaws annoy you and I hope they will get fixed eventually as much as you do, I just wanted to offer another point of view. The next time you get stuck in a ceiling, try to realize how huge and detailed at the same time Mass Effect 2 is and how complicated and extremely demanding it is to create something like this. Because when you look at it from this perspective, the whole problems suddenly appears much less annoying.

if it is happening in multiple levels on multiple objects it isnt a level design problem its a general problem in how the game handles pc/object interaction. I'm guessing its a physics problem with the pc but as it happens on static objects it could be clashing of collision objects.

Detailed or not I cant see how this could have got past quality control. But then human objects on 300 year old abandoned planets got past qc. I wonder if those guys and gals are understaffed or just went on holiday. Complex game yes but this is a rather obvious bug that happens multiple times on multiple hardware. I have 2 pc's and a laptop all different specs and it happens on all of them.

Its nice that Bioware have a history of patching games, nwn was patched for years, mass 1 not so much and is still buggy (quests not reporting proper end etc) but they didn't develop the pc version. Im hoping these problems can be fixed.

Having said that patch mentality has got worse since the consoles now allow patches and quality of finished products has slid (imho). Fix after release is far to easy now so quality has gone down on pc and console. The x360 version seems to have LOTs of bugs of its own.

But complexity of the tool set and levels is no excuse for using human objects on a quarian planet. It is simply a lack of appropriate art objects and severe lack of quality control. How hard would it be to design a Quarian or Geth crate? Or a loader / truck? Just adding those objects would make a rather generic quarry into an alien/quarian scientific settlement. If we hadn't been told it was quarian they could have said abandoned Turian or Asari and I wouldn't have known apart from the odd wall marking that surprisingly survives such a harsh environment. There is only the odd console to show any quarian material culture. I hate to say it as I love the game but who ever approved that level as finished should be ashamed of themselves.

Sorry to hijack the topic a bit there but Im an archaeologist so the lack of material culture really bothers me.

I've had this problem two times in the first 15 minutes of the game. I was expecting a level of quality equivalent to the first game in the series (or at least up to par with BioWare's normally excellent games) but this bug is making me think that Mass Effect 2 is more flash than substance.

Has happened to me in every place I walk towards something I shouldn't be able to get on top of. The DLC for Shadow Broker's ship, other things, pretty much about 30 - 40 times and once required a reload (not a big deal at that time though as I move quick)

I shouldn't have to avoid obstacles though, that's pretty poor clipping; however, I have found sometimes I can find the sweet spot and just walk off, and other times I can't...

Omega in Solus's lab has a nasty spot near the entrance to his personal lab.
