Please, stop being rude in your attempts to promote this site.
http://masseffect.bi...30984&forum=104
should go to
http://meforums.biow...30984&forum=104
...because that url contains a specifc message that is indexed on a search engine. Clicking on the link means I am interested in viewing the contents of that message, not seeing a list of mass effect forums on this site, none of which contain said message anyway.
I see you're running apache on masseffect.bioware.com. Here's how to forward just old messages in .htaccess.
Be sure to tell your corporate PR flunkies This will only forward specific messages, so they do not fear that social.bioware.com will not be promoted, or whatever crazy thinking it was that caused this mess.
Cut here (btw whoever coded this forum needs to fix whatever is mangling backslashes. If you see two there should be one.):
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^masseffect\\.bioware\\.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/forums/viewtopic\\.html
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^(.+)$
RewriteRule ^.*$ http://meforums.bioware.com/viewtopic\\.html\\?%1 [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^daforums\\.bioware\\.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/viewtopic\\.html
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^(.+)$
RewriteRule ^.*$ http://forums.bioware.com/viewtopic\\.html\\?%1 [R=301,L]
I personally filter google results - thanks in partial to this sort of annoyance - so it's not a problem for me anymore, but please fix this for the sake of everyone else, and for the thousands of blogs and sites linking to specific topics in the old forums.
Getting tossed to a forum list instead of a topic is really annoying.
REALLY annoying. ALOT.
AS IN OMGWTF ANNOYING.
