I'm curious to find out what those of you honestly think of this new DLC.  About how much time does it take to complete?

No it is not in my opinion.. if you are good at the game it is around 30 minutes of content and you sort of walk in a straight line through it.

Only DLC that has actually been worth its value untill now is shale in my opinion.

Depends. Its fairly short (30-60 mins, I'd say), and you get some decent-quality mid-game style loot. Nothing game-breaking or remotely overpowered. You get some closure and some party banter (albeit occasionally out of character). But like I suggested, its a very early- to mid-game quest, I think. At least that's how I saw the loot statistics. I also think Cailan's armour is ugly, but some people love it. TBH, I like it, and I think it was worth the $5 (or £3.10 as I'm British) that I paid. It is *basically* loot and a second-look at Ostagar. If you're looking for some historical insight (Warden's Keep) or an extra companion (Stone Prisoner), this isn't it.

In short, If you're strapped for cash probably not worth it. However, if you have $5 spare, why not. Some people love it, others hate it. You could be the former.

It depends a lot on what you want out of it, and on how much of a completest you are, and how much you're invested in the original game. I played it for the atmosphere, for information about Cailan and for the reactions of the three vocal companions. I thought it was worthwhile.

No DLC is going to compare to Shale.

Get realistic.

If you play Dragon Age because of the story and not because it's just a good game, then yes. It's definetly worth it.

I makes you think about the battle. And reveals some interesting info about Cailan's plans.

About the loots , I like Cailan's set. It looks great and its stats are fair enough.( with Warden's Keep you upgrade the loots )

And Ofc Duncan's weapons. One of the best weapons. And Duncan's sword fits well with Duncan's Shield on Alistair (looks like a set but not )

Its fairly short though. if you take your time 1 hour or something like that.

I quite enjoyed the RtO. I brought Wyne, Alistair and the Dog (the veterans of Ostagar) into the Ostagar and spent about 90 minutes to finish. Battles were pretty fun. The comments from the Alistair and Wyne were very good. I liked the loots not because they are great stat wise but you can understand the stat bonus of loots if you read DA:calling/the stolen throne.

In the end, it is just $5 and is totally worth it to me.

I will give it a try with different companions/different companion combinations and it will be interesting to see their reactions.
It seems short but if you think about all those companion reactions and interactions with each other through the play through, it is not small DLC.

Considering you can rent a movie thats cheaper and ALLOT longer then this DLC, I would say technically, no its not worth it. Warden's Keep was easily worth the price in my mind, but RtO isn't. Lame items, little story or closer, I didn't find it worth it.

Worth the price of a beer or a latte? Yes.

As good as Warden's Keep? No.

YMMV, especially if your favorite parties include Wynne and Alistair.

Definitely worth it. It has only one major flaw towards the end (can't say which one due to spoilers, but you find two items after killing something, and there SHOULD be a scene commenting it there. There is not, and it's disappointing) but the rest is very good.

I pay almost $5 for a latte at Starbucks. Anything that adds to the content of DA:O is worth it to me. Also, it felt very sad, sort of like your trip to the ruins of the Normandy in ME2. It contributes to the story.

Take Wynne, dog, and Alistair with you.

More content (at least for me) than many indicate. Not sure how anyone could get through it in 30 mins unless there is an autofight battles/just show the results option I am unaware of. Took my group of level 20 something characters about 2 hours. Loot was useless by that level but would be great earlier. Wynne and Alistair were good but I found the DLC surprisingly emotionally unengaging.

Some interesting tactical battles, dialogue and some good cut scenes. If you like that, then the DLC is worthwhile; if you don't like that stuff, well then you aren't enjoying the game so don't bother with the DLC.

I done it with Alistair , Wynne,Leliana

but now I will try it with Loghain , Wynne and Leliana :)

My dog was from my origin story so I didnt bring it.

Personally I think Loghain is more suitable with the story of Ostagar. When you bring him you understand why he did some things there.

If you have to ask the question, then for you I'd say no.

I was also undecided about whether or not to get this DLC.  I didn't make up my mind until I saw it was available in my game - which is when I purchased the points for it.

There is almost no role play value in this as most dialogue is just party banter and there are no decisions with consequence.  Plus nothing you do there seems to make a difference to any of your party members, except for some possible gain or loss of approval.

The story is really what you write.  It's your revenge and some closure.  To me, that was the best part of the DLC.  But what new things we learned were of very little consequence or value.  By the latter, I mean you learned what some people were considering doing.

The loot was decent, but as has been pointed out, probably most useful for lower level characters.

I enjoy the world of DA:O enough that I am currently reading - and enjoying - the first novel.  I enjoyed the previous two DLCs as well.  But this DLC just was not up to the standards of the rest of the game and for me added too little to my DA experience.

Actually, The Stone Prisoner is my least favorite DLC. While the quests were entertaining, and Shale is very amusing, I find the character 'off' in terms of the tone of the rest of the game and other characters--too tongue in cheek and broadly comic to fit realistically with the rest of the characters. Oghren was right on the line, but for me, Shale goes well over it. I enjoyed the story of Warden's Keep, but am more interested in plots that directly relate to the party members and have some emotional resonance, so RtO was my favorite by far.

From a purely financial perspective, 5 bucks isn't much. If you do RtO only once, you'll get about an hour of gameplay, give or take, and you can replay it as many times as you like. A movie costs at least twice that for the ticket alone.

The opportunity cost of 5 bucks is pretty slim. There isn't much more you can get for $5 that has as much or more value than RtO.

I'm curious, does anyone know what part the letters between Cailan and the Empress of Orlais play in the main storyline?

It's ok-ish story-wise, tough a bit more reaction from party members besides Wynne and Alistair would have been nice. And I really don't see why people keep saying the items aren't good. Cailan's armor set is probably the best tank equipment you can get. And his arms make arcane warriors even more overpowered. Yeah, I said that.

It was alright, I'm glad I did get it just to see what they did with it... When you're higher leveled the items aren't quite as nice and I was also a little disappointed from the lack of dialogue/reaction from the other companions aside from Alistair, Wynne and Dog...

Other then that it was an interesting DLC..

To be fair, the other characters didn't know the people involved and have no stake in what was involved. As far as they're concerned, it's just another battlefield. There's really not much for them to say, and if they did, it would just be interrupting the narrative of the characters for whom this is a big deal.

If that was it then I would have been alright with it. But it's the fact they bothered giving the characters approval changes to what you do... I just felt they should voice why they thought I should let the wolves eat Cailan or something...
