Return to Ostagar - Okay early adopters, let us know...worth the 5 bucks?

One thing I will say about this and about Warden's Keep: they feel much more alive when you incorporate them into a playthrough rather than going back from an epilogue save. The feel is not the same when you go back through it with a character who has already completed the story.

It was good to have some closure to the death of King Cailan and his body, though. I felt that was well-handled.

Is RTO available through Steam? I am not seeing it in my game as new downloadable content. Am I missing something? Thanks for the help.
All DLC's are only purchaseable/installable through the game itself.

I know that, but when I launch the game and click on downloadalble content, it's not showing anything new. Is this a Steam problem?
Edit: Nevermind, it is now showing up. I guess the game has to be running for a bit first.

Remember to sell/re-purchase all the weapons back to a merchant (either camp or Warden's Keep work) in the late-game to upgrade them to Dragonbone. The two swords available are both excellent for fighting Darkspawn in the closing stages of the game, comparable to the other high-level swords out there (Keening or Starfang)
Thanks for the tip. I did the DLC with a level 19 party and the stats seemed a bit low.
I'd agree with what most say. I still liked the DLC for $5 but wouldn't pay more.
Warden's keep is much better.
What was weird was the initial battle in the Tower. The original battles in Ostragar were much tougher.
I dunno..I think they could have made the battles tougher. I could use a lone archer to kill off most groups.
Unless you blunder totally in tactics it's not much of a challenge.
No complaints on the other two DLC's. I guess I needed this one to see how very in depth they were.

Since last patch, I've had problems with the game not logging into my account w/ the "Auto log me in" feature. Every time, I've had to logout / relog back in.

Too damn true. I enjoyed the DLC... nice distraction. But for the wait it took to get it? This was a joke of a DLC. Almost two months of waiting for something that was much shorter than what some other guy did for free DLC. I believe it was the Alley Murders or something like that I can't remember the name of right now, but I digress. This DLC is tiny and took forever to develop. I wonder how much money BioWare lost in the extra work needed to get it to work on all three systems.

So, if the DLC had been titled Stab Darkspawn in the Face, I'd have had no problems with it - unfortunately, it was called Return to Ostagar and it really didn't do the concept justice. The 'big emotional payoff':
"So, it seems they killed king Cailin and hung him on a tree in his thong."
"What shall we do?"
"We'll cut him down burn the body."
"Ok."
*cutscene*
"Now, back to looting corpses."
Also, there's this suit of gold armour to go with the other five I have. How about some effective *and* non-****ty cloths for female mages, so Morrigan doesn't die of exposure when we do the Sacred Ashes quest?
More seriously; not a waste of my money, but a waste of bioware's idea. Returning to Ostagar should have been reserved for a much larger, more expensive piece of DLC. Charge me £10 or whatever it takes for a quest as long as the Deep Trenches. Fully explore all that happened at Ostagar. Reserve content like this - which there is nothing wrong with - for plot ideas not so critical to the main storyline.
Also, the level design felt vaguely amateurish. The open plan map where you are obviously rail-roaded by the insurmountable waste high fence. The part where I fell into a pit and could see gaps in the texturing. The door barricaded for no reason. etc.

All the areas preexist so they don't have to go through too much of a design and model process, just dialogue and the placement of items??
It wasn't that rewarding in the sense of story and Item wise I already have better community designed re-textures and models than the ones you get in this DLC, how about some new model designs Bioware???
Am I expecting too much?

We spend 40+ hours on a grand journey where we shape the characters and land around us. If DLC were a novel it should be titled "The Continuing Adventures of ______" not, "Oh, and another thing...".

They all seem to think those extra 3 weeks of delay (there was a Christmas holiday thrown in there too, ya know) was entirely spent furiously building more content for that particular DLC, and thus it came very short of the mark in terms of expected content. This opposes what usually happens in REALITY where they fix bugs and do a whole buttload of TESTING (note: not the same as building content) to make sure it actually works.
That time was mostly spent working on OTHER stuff, so you can have even MORE DLC in the future. They didn't halt absolutely everything in the Bioware offices to add more content to the thing.
Some people are just sorely lacking in the whole cerebral cortex department.

Funny. I'm seeing a pattern with the people who don't think its worth it.

Please link to one person, much less a "whole lot" who thought they were making more content for the dlc during the delay.
Just one. I can wait.

It was worth 5 bucks.
It was not worth the hype, or the anticipation. The only people who had lines were Loghain, Alistair, and Wynne. Nobody else said a blip, not even I could up until the very end, and even then, there's this great sense of "What? Thats it?"

If you liked the story of the game, it's definiately worth it. If you don't care too much about Dragon Age as a series, it's probably too short.

At Level 21, all equipment found, other than the exceptional items, was below that already in use. As these were better options than Imy characters were carrying, I was able to use them in the finale. All other items were sold and more potions created.
Worth it? Of course it was. I bet all the grumblers were just disappointed that it didn't amount to another 100 hours of gameplay (I wish!).
I enjoyed going back to an area that I have played before and seeing how it had changed. The add-on managed successfully to induce a poignant atmosphere. Wynne and Alistairs comments were particularly appropriate.
Well done Bioware. Roll on the next addition!!
