I'm currently in the mage tower right after the harrowing and I have noticed that when random npc's talk with each other when you near them, there is spoken audio and subtitle text (since I turned it on) but parts of their spoken dialogue is missing so its quiet and I think their lips move, but the text is there. If I hadn't turned on subtitles I would never have known what they where saying since parts of it is missing, one npc can say a few lines (which isn't spoken outloud) then the other npc says something like "I see". I've come across two such groups of npc's so far, Is this a bug or haven't it installed properly?

I've had the same problem right from the beginning but it only has happened occasionally. I seemed to be able to make the vocal louder by walking closer to them. A couple of times while talking to Alistair the audio dropped out for the last sentence.

Could it be that I have 5.1 speaker configuration? I noticed the volume was a little low in some camera angles. Dunno if the game detects its own, or simply uses whatever is configured in windows, or perhaps its a direct-x sound glitch.

I had to uninstall and reinstall. Once I did this the audio was restored for both cutscenes and dialogue with NPCs, but I am still experiencing sound delay issues for some reason with cutscenes.

I have surround sound and sometimes the NPC audio seems to go silent, but it is just really quiet like there is something in the my character and the NPC that is speaking. It happens at different points. Like in the mage tower just after the harrowing when the evil apprientice and the human apprentice are speaking about someone practicing blood magic. Then again in lothering when the villager is telling a templar some wilders were stealing from his cart. There are several other places this happens. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm having the same issue and tried EVERYTHING. The NPC names are all fine, just no voice in the character dialogue so I literally have to read every single subtitle to grasp the storyline
I've reinstalled, patched it individually, updated my sound drivers, uninstalled directX and reinstalled the directX supplied on the CD, changed my sound acceleration to Basic and also tried all the other slider options, tried playing it on older patches and on older directX versions - STILL NO VOICE AUDIO and I swear im on the brink of throwing my monitor through my office window.
Someone please please please help me as without voice audio, its very hard to enjoy the game as you can't connect with the characters and I spend most of my play time reading the subtitles.
Any tips/suggestions/help in any form will be GREATLY appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
