When I try to run ME2, it prompts me to enter the game CD into a disc drive to run a CD Key check every time. I would prefer to just open the game and get cracking. Is there a way to bypass this check? I tried taking the disc out after and the game doesn't seem to need the disc inserted to play itself, just to run the check.

Currently, there no method to remove the CD check. Maybe someday, EA will allow Bioware to skip the CD check if you're connected to Cerberus Network.

Wouldn't be difficult to do, a simple check if auto-login is activated and adding code to perform the CD check if the Cerberus Network failed to verify the account registration of the game.

I wouldn't mind putting up my CDs permanently so they don't have that chance of getting damaged.

Since there is only a simple disk check, you can use a virtual DVD drive (like Alcohol 52%) to load an image (or mini-image) of the disk. Of course you would use your retail DVD to make the image so you wouldn't be breaking the EULA.

[EDIT] There is nothing illegal about making a backup copy of your disk, it is permitted by the EULA. Making a "virtual" backup copy is not illegal, using that backup copy to run the game is not illegal. Using a mini-image is also permitted but is in the "gray" area of legality.

Both the free Alcohol 52% and the free Deamon Tools Lite can be used to make a virtual backup image of the disk(s).

It is simple to turn a (legal) full image of disk 1 into a mini-image, you would do this only to save space on your harddisk.

this is probably going to get deleted... going into the realm of almost-not-quite-legal :x

and no, there is no way at this point, unless you get one of the aforementioned copies from the dank corners of the intranets.

GameJackal. Its a legal product that creates a virtual copy of your disk onto your hard drive. All the program does is monitor the disk as it's being read by Windows to see what files it uses, then create a virtual image for you to use. Google it.

If you want to exchange a disk check for Digital DRM, you can activate your CD Key with EA and download the EA Digtal Download of the game, via the EA Download Manager.

Go to https://activate.ea.com, or activate from within the EA Download Manager.

But that requires an internet connection every time you start the game.

My understanding is that there is an offline mode in the EA download manager (at least with the activation scheme used by DA and ME2), but I don't use it myself so I can't speak from experience.

However as I said, its all about which type of DRM you prefer.  Disk Check or Online Activation.  If you want to play without the disk you have to put up with online activation.

EA Download Manager doesn't have an offline mode, that would be silly for a download manager. EA Download Manager isn't needed to play the game. Only for downloading and installing the game.

EA Download Manager didn't solve the problem. Still wants DVD.

Did you download and install the game with the EA Download Manager?

Uninstall the DVD version and then install it via the EADM.
