Cullen and Jowan too, in their own ways. It's not likely Cullen's gonna live much of a life after you find him, and it's pretty obvious what Greagoir would like to do with Jowan, even if he's sent back to the Circle with all you begging.
Anora & Loghain when you say you intend to execute him... ouch. I just... ouch. ;~;
And I always feel bad killing Taliesin. Him and Zevran were buddies, weren't they? Zev shouldn't be so eager to kill his friends, when even I'm not. :c

Nelaros, even if my City Elf didn't want to get married, it breaks her heart that he broke into the castle and essentially killed himself for her. Especially the first time, when she expressed her lack of desire to get married (didn't even put on the dress, hehe). She felt like an ungrateful wench.
Anyone I "mercy kill" guts me.
I went through the Blood Ritual with Isolde once just to see what happened, then reloaded. I felt horrible at the time. But the more I listen to her voice, the more I want to see that cutscene again...I think next game I may switch the party around before I re-enter the Main Hall so that I don't tank approval with all the do-gooders of the party, hehe.
And I never feel 'sorry' about killing Loghain, given all he tried to do. But the line he says to Anora at the end...yeah, it's hard not to empathize at least a little.

Dragon age gives us a lot of options to save people, but it seems like some just have to in a quest. Who do you hate to see die in your quests?
Personally I hate to see Niall die, since he fought so hard to save the circle.
Just about everyone except for Loghain,Arl Howe and Uldred.
Daveth seems like a really cool guy. It's a shame he had to die,he would've been a good companion. And Niall tried to do the right thing at the last minute. It's sad.

What he says about Anora at the Landsmeet always makes me feel bad about killing him. So Alistair always ends up doing it. But I can never let him be a warden either. I do wish there was a third option to put him in the tower with Anora or something.

Second: Danyla. I mean -- good god. You have to be pretty cold blooded to ask anything of her, let alone ignore her pleas.
Third: "The Arcane Warrior" in the phylactery -- Maker save him! How long has he been languishing in that lonely hell!?

Logically, lifting the curse either without talking to her at all or if you refuse to kill her should result in her returning to normal... but it doesn't. And for the life of me I can't figure out why, it seems like such a logical option (one that came to me almost immediately after the first time I lifted the curse)...RobinMichelleB wrote...
One of the hardest deaths, though, was Danyla. When you find her, she is just in so much pain, and seeing how much she cared about her husband and he about her, I desperately wanted there to be a way to save her, but death is the only compassionate end for her.

The look in his eyes, right before he fell off the dragon, was really really hard for me to watch.

This game my PC is going to spare Loghain because I want to see those options. I RPed his backstory that as a young Cousland, he hero-worshipped Loghain. He can't shake the idea that maybe, just maybe, there should be redemption for the Hero of River Dane. And he won't be able to believe that Alistair can't be brought to his senses after.
That said...Arl Howe dies screaming. Traitorous Upstart Bastard that he is.

Danyla simply vanishes if the PC tries to avoid her and gets Zathrian to lift the curse. At least, that's what happened to my PC in my play-through.
Ruck. What can I say. The saddest NPC in game. When he tells my PC that he and her have something in common, it really creeped me out. Mostly because it's true. I can understand Zevran and Oghren, Ruck would die horribly and very soon. Better a quick end, it's far more merciful. But oh, it did hurt. I know there are dialogue options that won't spring Zevran/Oghren into action, but he'll still die, and die a terrible death, anywhich way you turn it.
Niall deserved better. My mage liked him because she and him talked in the origin, and he's a nice guy. My HN thought that he was brave to try and stem the Uldred-unleashed horror. She gave him credit for at least trying to do something, even if it was futile.
Jowan. Yes, he betrayed my mage, but the thought of being turned tranquil is terrible. All my PCs started hating the Chantry when they found out about tranquility. What a terrible thing to do to a person. No wonder Jowan flipped his lid and turned to forbidden magic. The Chantry have only themselves to blame.
At first I felt bad for Ser Otto, but talking to the templars in Denerim..., well, what can I say. I won't spoil it for anyone else, but go ahead and try.

Even worse... when my warden had to kill him I choose the "cocky" voice... so she was saying things like "More darkspawn! Bring it on!" or something of that nature. It was tragic!!!
To make matters worse no one was that nice to my character after I killed my elven ex-boyfriend. Thanks a lot party members!

2. Tamlen - I died inside. I loved him, and it was bad enough when I assumed he was lost to the abyss after Duncan wouldn't let me search for him, but then you have to kill him...and all of your party members are like, "oh well!" I mean Alistair of all people should've said something better than "it was more merciful this way!" Ok, he knew Duncan 6 months and probably spent that long crying over him, and your friend/lover who you've known from childhood just died at your hand and he's like "ah well!" I mean I love Alistair, but that made me want to kick him.
3. Jowan - Not so much unless you play as a Mage, and then I felt guilty...I want to Conscript him!
4. Cailan - He got screwed, I felt bad for him...then the Ostagar DLC came out and I felt HORRIBLE! Like wtf was that? =(
5. Ser Gilmore - I assume he died...I liked him, it depressed me that he died like that. He seemed like a really good guy.
6. Niall - He gave up too easy for my taste, but he did try. I still wish you could've saved him though...his body looked fine to me.
7. Daveth - He was really funny, I was sad the Joining killed him. I think he would've made for an interesting party member. How can you not enjoy a flirt and a theif? I think him and Zev would've gotten along great.
8. Ser Jory - Ok, I couldn't stand the guy, but Duncan stabbing him was just messed up. I get there is no turning back at that point, but there was no like, "calm down lets talk about this." He just stabs him. WTF was that?

Damnit Bioware. You've forced me to bear with the slaughter of my entire family, know the death of the man who pulled me from the ashes of my home, mercy kill countless suffering beings, fail to rescue Naill, fail to help Ser Otto, watch Isolde kill her precious only son to save his soul, find the bodies of Mother Mallol and Ser Gilmore tortured to death in the prison...
You couldn't even give me a brief scene to pick up little Amenthyne in the Alienage, those eyes that resembled her mother's so much, and cradle her.
Damn you Bioware! ._.

Totally. Not even a "Your mother wanted you to have this" cinematic. Bioware, please come out with a patch for this - if it weren't for the Voiceover required, I'd do it myself!
No doubt, the Bioware writers are enjoying their smugness right now...

Ser Gilmore just seemed like a down-to-earth kinda guy. I would have loved to have him along as a party member. A romance with him would have been fun.
Daveth was too sad. He was just a "good guy".
And I have to agree with Max about the Lady of the Forest. That whole part of the game is one of my faves. Kudos to the person who did her artwork! Beautiful!

Iona.
Cailan. Especially with HN (Mine are usually Female). I can't even watch this scene anymore. RtO Helps, a bit here, but still...
Loghain with a Shapeshifter mage. I would REALLY dig an option to turn him into a Griffon.
EDIT: Lady of the Forest's death strikes me as peaceful. Touching, to be certain, but not anything sad. More like fixing something that should never have happened to begin with, but special.

He dies in the same way many people die in Horror Movies... When you easily defeat the monster (or better still...you BELIEVE that you have already defeated it) and begin to exulte... "We won !! We won !! It's over !!!" And after half a second it reappears suddenly behind you and "BAM!!!!" it kills you !!! I obviusly didn't like to see him die... but I was not able to avoid to shake my head in a disapproving way repeating to myself... what a dumb !!!!

I liked Ser Otto Of course, I also liked Loghain and Caladrius.....
Everyone I thought rocked as a character...dead....dead.
Kidding aside, I hated to leave Ser Gilmore. I liked him. And Mama Cousland. She kicked some serious butt. I'd have liked to have stayed and helped her defend my father. Or dragged both of them out. Dang you Duncan and your conscription!
Oh RUCK! Screw you Eamon, you and your political power-grabs. I'm saving the ashes for Ruck. Oh that I could try.

i really hated having to kill Leliana when i poured the blood into the ashes. i tried to convince her not to attack, but i guess you have to harden her first because she still attacked me. twas a damn shame. also the Cousland family during the HN origin story, man that was sad.
Hardening her won't help. If you defile the ashes - she will try to kill you. Your only way around it is to not bring her - and when you get back to camp lie to her about it. I don't know how high a coercion score you might need, though.
