Zevran. I never used him much, and his approval wasn't all that high, but then he goes and turns on me, and I can't even talk him out of it- thanks a lot, Master Coercion! :(

Yep, he doesn't even have to like you much. Just give him a couple of gifts and talk to him a bit. That's all.

Ruck. What can I say. The saddest NPC in game.

No - he's the third saddest. Second is Iona's daughter, in the alienage. Saddest by far is Hespith. We don't see Hespith die, I wish we did. The alternative is just too ghastly.

As for sad deaths, the big ones for me, the ones I hate to see die, are Ser Gilmore and Tamlen. Many of those that other people have noted are sad, but I can't say that I really hate their deaths.

Oh, god, Hespeth. I haven't felt that bad about a game character's fate since Deionarra in Planescape: Torment.

You know who I feel that way about?
The wife of the chasind outside the chantry in Lotherin. He says she was dragged off by the darkspawn... Ever since the broodmother encounter, I can't get that man and his story out of my head.

True. And all the stories told about other women treated the same way. Bodhan tells of women (plural) being dragged away screaming. The gossips mention it too. Dead is sad, don't get me wrong, but this is so much worse.:crying:

You know what my female Cousland's first thought after encountering the broodmother was?
"In the tower of Ishal, the darkspawn had overpowered me and knocked me unconcious. If Flemeth hadn't shown up..."

Yes, and any female warden who goes down into the deep roads to die risks this - what if she doesn't die? What if they take her alive? I don't think I'll be going to the deep roads 'when the time comes'. I think I'll just quietly slit my wrists in a nice warm bath, thanks.

Agreed. 110%... recalculating... please wait...

Agreed... 1,000,010.99%

Do you ever wonder about the first time you meet Alistair and he says "There haven't been many female Wardens"...

I always thought this was odd. I mean, they take *everyone*. It is not a prejudiced organisation in a mainly gender neutral world...

Now we know why... eww, just eww.

I think I would have *some* compassion for Hespith if my Warden-Girl wasn't screaming "Screw this, I'm getting the F*** outta here!!"...

Heroism has a limitation. It *does* however, make a female Warden *alot* more heroic than a male warden, every time she sets foot in the Deep Roads.

For me, however, the worst is Ser Jory... this has to be the least justified and worst scripted part of the game.

"Ugh.. stop advancing on me with a suicide pill... what? You're going to kill me now? Er... why?"

I think even the justification Duncan gives is rotten. If they had have said "We must protect the secret of the joining" maybe... maybe...

But then Wynne mentions it like she read about it in a book or something... did we kill her?

Fail, Duncan... EPIC fail.

One of the hardest deaths, though, was Danyla. When you find her, she is just in so much pain, and seeing how much she cared about her husband and he about her, I desperately wanted there to be a way to save her, but death is the only compassionate end for her.

Logically, lifting the curse either without talking to her at all or  if you refuse to kill her should result in her returning to normal... but it doesn't. And for the life of me I can't figure out why, it seems like such a logical option (one that came to me almost immediately after the first time I lifted the curse)...

I think that, taking that into account, Danyla dies alone in the forest, from the pain, or kills herself. Which is really sad, knowing that if she just held on, she could have been saved. Along with the HN Origin, this really ranks up there for me.

Holy crap, I never thought about Alistair's comment about female Grey Wardens that way. That's, uh...well, those are some really unfortunate implications right there. I'd rather just run on my sword or hire the Crows to make a decorative pattern out of dagger points.

Well, Ruck is still the saddest NPC in game for me.

Hespith was heart-breaking, but she knew the risks of venturing deep into the Deep Roads. She also seems to be still in possession of her mental faculties most of the time. She knows what she is in danger of turning in to, and the dwarfs can only hope that she'll do the right thing in the end to prevent that from happening. Her line "I'm dying from something worse than death. Betrayal." makes me think that she will. Her fate, Laryn's fate, heck the fate of the whole house always doom Branka for my PCs. Off with her head, I say. Sorry Oghren.

Iona's daughter is a sad tale, but no sadder than all the children which are left orphans through inhuman cruelty and thoughtlessness. I feel bad for her, but I also feel bad for the little boy in Redcliffe's chantry, who keeps asking about his parents, only to be told that they 'went on a long trip'. Same goes for Bevin and Kaitlyn. Sad stories in all, but at least they have a chance for survival. I did wish my HNs could've done something for the little elven girl though.

I'm soooo tempted to just post the Ser Otto spoiler, but it was such a fun wtf moment when the Templars told me...

I think you may be mixing up Ser Otto with the other templar in Howe's estate...I wish there was something more to the Ser Otto story!

Dragon age gives us a lot of options to save people, but it seems like some just have to in a quest. Who do you hate to see die in your quests?

Personally I hate to see Niall die, since he fought so hard to save the circle.

Indeed I wish I could save Niall. :)

Tamlen's death was very hard on my Dalish Elf. V__V I wish the other party members (*coughsZEVRAN*coughs*) would have commented on it, other than Alistair. Who she REALLY didn't get along with in the first place.

I also hate killing Logain! Some of my characters do it, because it's what they would do...It just makes me sad! I grew so attached to him in The Stolen Throne!

...I always make Alistair do it.

Not sure you can, because the big demon gets him..in that cutscene?  Or is there a way around that?

Me too..but Alistair has to be "hardened" first to do that methinks.   Loghain is a bad bad man...really :)  Actually he's more paranoid than bad I guess, but his decisions killed people..innocent people.   And he felt no remorse about it.

I don't think Alistair has to be hardened to comment on Tamlen's death. I think I got him to say something before I went on his companion quest. I do wish your party members would say something more- it's even worse when your warden kills Tamlen using the typical witty darkspawn battle cry. So sad!

You know..I tried my own method of saving Danyla, I waited til I had completed the main quest..where you meet the Lady of the Forest. Figured if I solved that problem first, that I would be able to save Danyla, as the hunters that had been bitten..were saved. But it didn't work unfortunately. They brought back the heart, cured the hunters, but I guess Danyla was too far gone to do anything other than slay her on her request. I tried resisting that, but she just attacks us. Poor thing.

OH! no Alistair has nothing to do with Tamlen..hehehe.   I guess I should have been more clear, that I make sure that Alistair is "hardened" prior to the Landsmeet, so that when I refuse to kill Loghain, he steps up to the plate and does it for Duncan.

Alistair is perfectly happy to kill Loghain, hardened or unhardened. The hardening only affects his ability to consider what he wants to a minimal, instead of zero, degree and to have some self confidence. Killing isn't an issue. ;)

I tried avoiding her entirely until the quest was completed--peaceful resolution, and she just disappeared. When you tell her husband that you didn't find her (only option since you haven't spoken to her) he hopes she's still out there, now cured as were the werewolves, but I got the impression that she's dead, since you don't see her and she's not back in camp. I'm thinking I might have the conversation with her, refuse to kill her, and slap a force field on her while we run away, then finish the quest. I suspect that would have the same result, though. I don't think she's saveable.
