This is totally absurd. If this doesn't get removed in a patch soon, I doubt I'll ever buy anything from EA again. Just because I paid for DLC and was stupid enough to install it, I have to be connected to the internet every time I want to play my game? And not only that, but I have to be connected to your servers? Who is the moron who thought up this DRM? I hope he gets fired, if he hasn't been already. Activating it online once is bad enough, but this goes beyond stupidity.

This is very normal really, DLC = Downloadable Content. It is logical that DLC needs to be server confirmed to be bought or else everyone could just pirate it. They also have said this was going to be the case before they launched the game. Its partially so that if you sell the game, others dont have the DLC.

Should have read up on it, then you would have known. So just don't play it and cut your loss.

You have to be logged in every time you load a saved game, and that is not normal at all or reasonable. Being logged in to download it is normal. Once it's installed, it should be playable offline.

I shouldn't have read up on it, no. EA should have been a reasonable company, and not forced this on us. How can you two defend this deplorable DRM? They should change it. And they will, if you stop being apologist and demand it from them.

Apparently, i can play all the DLC while offline. I activated it once while logged in, but now it never pops up saying i need to log in when resuming my game. It did it once i think, but that was it. Then again, i'm not certain it's even activated anymore, even though all the boxes are ticked. The Stone Prisoner DLC also says its unauthorized, but it still loads without any messages. Odd.

The Blood Dragon armor definetly works while offline however, since i've had that in my inventory for ages while being offline.

I fully agree with being online to confirm that you own the bought downloadable content if it stops mass pirating. It has been very normal for consoles and i dont see a reason why it cannot be so on the pc.

As for save games, you can load them, while being offline, unless you have DLC installed.

But i have DLC loaded, and my savegames work fine offline. Wouldn't i have lost the Blood Dragon armor if it wasn't possible?

this particular system is to work so that when loading an savegame that has DLC tied with it, then it needs to validate the DLC before loading the savegame.

But that is for DLC like lets say, stone prisoner or wardens keep. Bonus items are mostly not tied to this type of system. and Blood dragon armour is a bonus item

I can't connect to the EA servers (but live works fine) and I can't play my game due to the wolf charm. That is absolutely crap, can't load a save because of a stupid item.

OP has a point though. It's not every time you want to play you can log on-line. It should be enough you paid for the content, and that they know you did.

It shouldn't be a 1984 situation where they have to go "Big Brother" on players who just want to play the game and the DLC they bought.

I am also not in favor of having to be logged on to play a game. Once I purchase your game and/or content, I should be able to access it anytime I like if it's solely for my personal use. That's what I paid for. What happens if my internet connection goes down for a couple days? I don't like this at all, and I want them to change it for all platforms.

I just tried to load a saved game at a point after getting Shale, and all of a sudden it's telling me I have to be logged into the account associated with the downloaded content.Which I am, haven't changed anything since I last played but now everything under installed downloads reads "Unauthorized".So I can't even load my saved games now.

Typical DRM.

Only aggravates and causes problems for Legit players while the Pirates dont have to deal with any of the issues.

If you log in and play with content, you should be able to play offline with the same content. We are investigating some odd behavior with how the authorization of content is occurring. You can try restarting the game, logging in with the "Keep me logged in" box checked, make sure you content says "Authorized", then log out, then quit and restart the game. Your content should still say authorized even if you are not logged in. Having an issue with it going unauthorized seems to be related to being logged in for quite a while. We've had an enormous amount of trafic to our servers, and are trying to keep up, but it may be affecting the authorization state.

I solved this problem by manually starting a service in Windows Vista called "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater"

1. Press "Start"

2. Run "services.msc"

3. Find and start "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater"

4. Restart the game

I am all of a sudden having this problem tonight as well. I thought it very odd it told me I had to be logged in to the account used to get the DLC, since that is ALWAYS the account I am logged in, and I have it log me in every time. It only started tonight, so it looks like some bug in the auth servers. I'll try restarting the client a few times, etc.

This problem seems to be caused by the DC content updater not starting properly. While I have no idea why, it can be fixed by using AxionM's solution above. However, you will have to do this each time you start your computer so it is probably better to set it to automatic start. All DLC problems have dissapeared after I did this.

I'm agree with the OP. My home pc have the problem with internet, so I always off line when I'm not necessary need to use internet. This issue force me to connect to internet for me load save game and if that day my pc can't connected, then I have to wait for it before I can play, grrrrr. (I have collector's edition.)

This is still an issue today. If Ilog back out, exit from the game, log in again then I can play. Still buggy but a workaround (if people know to do so)

It's a problem for me. I want to play on my laptop when I really don't have access to an internet connection, and I just can't. Incredibly frustrating.
