For human male noble who marries Anora it does say something about if the two would quit arguing/fighting on who rules etc... I don't remember n unfortunately I lost all my screenshots when I played male noble but it sounds like that my male pc is trying to put Anora in the shadows on ruling so to speak, not the way she wanted it to where my pc was in the shadows n she ruled lmao...

That's why I like the female human noble ending if you've never romanced Alistair -- the people see you as their ruler and Alistair lets you do what you want.  No being in the shadows in that ending!

Is that him hardened or unhardened

Both.  Only thing is, he cannot be in love, nor can he be still in love (romanced then dumped).  You two have got to be just friends, completely.

Edit: I have tried it with him hardened and with him unhardened.  He's a better king when he's hardened, but it makes no difference to the card that talks about Elissa being princess-consort.  And really, why should it make a difference?  Even after he was hardened he still followed her lead.

Reading through this, it looks to me that a HNF who marries Alistair still has a lot of influence regardless of whether they marry for love or for politics - the pair that marry for love, however, are just more subtle about it.

No matter what, you will only become princess-consort.  However, whether you're viewed as the ruler or as the king's beloved bride depends on whether he was ever romanced.

Hmm. With my HNF who was in love with Alistair. The epilogue plainly stated she was his Queen-Consort. Not princess.

Are you sure?  My ending slide said Princess-Consort, though Alistair introduced her as the future queen.

Positive. I just went back and read the epilogue again and yeap it says that she is his Queen-Consort (no mods).

Oh no doubt, especially if she is chancellor as well, she has lots of influence.  What I like is how the people view her.  Marry for love and everyone is delighted at how much Alistair loves his bride.  Marry for politics and the people love their savior and new ruler.

Then this is seriously brand new.  There wouldn't be mods out "fixing" the princess consort thing if this has been this way all along.  In fact, there have been many threads of Alistair fans pretty upset that they are the princess consort.  It's possible that it was changed in a patch somewhere.  I'll replay that ending (I do have one I believe) to see if it has changed.  What platform are you playing on?

As for the main thread I wonder if getting and keeping Alistair liking Elissa Cousland or the love affair at 100% is the next challenge?  For instance, if there is even one point of negativity does that make 100% impossible?

And related to this are gifts--no?  I need to find a Gift Guide so I can not only play out Alistair properly but also other NPCs properly in the game.  I have found a vintage wine and a thick bracelet so far--who are the right NPCs to get them and/or does it matter at all?

If you do get a negative with him just give him a gift or if you still have certain conversation's left like being a templar or talk about the Grey wardens it will always put his approval bk up... I've never lost any influence with Alistair but my pc always tries to do the right thing...

As far as gifts I know there's a link somewhere, just not sure what it is but here's a list of what Alistair likes...
Alistair's Mother's Amulet
Black Runestone
Duncan's shield (which you won't be able to access until after you rescue the Queen)
Statuette's ( he likes statues n there's 4 different 1's in the game)
White Runestone

The vintage wine goes to Oghren, as far as the bracelettes n other jewelery well Morrigan does like silver lol

Just found a link for gifts,
http://faqs.ign.com/.../1057577p1.html

I know there's another link too, just don't remember where lol

FYI, wine is best given to Wynne, she likes to sip it while reading a book.

And as someone else said, the Wiki has a pretty good list of gift items and who they are best given too.  Plus there are a couple of mods that put this info in the game.

Well I wasn't sure if mods could interact with things or anything. I'm playing it on the pc. I think I have the latest patch as well.

Very interesting.  The mod is called something like "better endings" and changed "princess-consort" to "queen-consort" and gave more detailed endings as well in the slide which tells the future of the warden and the romance partner.  I'm just surprised because I've tried as many variations of the royal wedding ending as I could think of, and it's always come up princess-consort, and I've done it since the most recent patch I'm fairly sure.  Is it possible that someone else tossed that mod on for you?  Unfortunately, my 'in love" Alistair one I can only reload from the landsmeet (ugh, I deleted stuff) so I'll get to redoing it, um, soon.

Whatever, if bioware made the change, that's fantastic.  It will make many Alistair fans much happier.

edit: here's the link to the mod anyway. http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=513

You don't have to romance Alistair to become queen but if you do want to romance him:
-Start out as HNF.
-Make Alistair feel loved and appreciated in your conversations with him.
-Get your Coercion skill high. You need a certain amount of cunning and level for each advancement.
-Take him with you when you do quests and if you do the right thing when you do the quests (for instance:spare Isolde and Connor when you go to Redcliffe Castle), you will get his approval up.If you do that, you won't need to give him alot of gifts. In my playthroughs when I've done this, I only had to give him his mothers amulet and maybe a runestone and Duncan's Shield.
-Give him gifts at camp.Companions react differently and may reveal things to you if you give them gifts at the camp.
-Don't force the sex topic on him.You can flirt with him and ask him if he ever had sex and invite him to join you in your tent but if he refuses, don't force it on him.Eventually if his approval is high, you can ask him to join you in your tent and he will accept OR you can wait for him to ask you at camp.
-Get all the romance stuff out of the way before you go to the Landsmeet and/or Redcliffe Castle at the end of the game.
-You can choose to harden him as other people said.He will be easier to persuade to become king.
To harden him: when you visit Goldanna in Denerim, afterwards he talks to you.Pick the answer "Everyone is out for themselves, you should learn that."
-Do the ritual with Morrigan. We don't like it, but it's better than dying.lol. When you try to convince him to do the ritual, pick the answer "I love you. You know that right?"
-Before the Landsmeet, try to do the side quests that involve investigating what Loghain and Arl Howe did so you have proof and can gain approval from the other nobles at the Landsmeet.
-Choose to rule with Alistair at the Landsmeet.

As for what that means for the fictional Ferelden, who knows? Perhaps Loghain was able to influence the nobles and allow the title of Queen to Anora. Maybe Anora only took the title of Queen after Calian's death. Even in present day UK though, an unrecognized bastard would not be heir to the throne. There was another thread not long ago about the difference between recognized and unrecognized bastards.

Present day UK, however, has a long list of members of the royal family with a claim to the throne. Ferelden apparently, however, got to the point where Maric was the only member of the royal line (possibly because the Orlesians tried to wipe it out - I haven't read Stolen Throne) so Alistair was the only possibility that was known to be from that line. It's basically a case of choosing the unacknowledged bastard or starting a new dynasty based on an accident of marriage rather than lineage.

You just click on your own inventory, and there should be an arrow on that screen that lets you "flip" to anyone you have recruited.

I don't really get what the big deal is about Princess-Consort vs. Queen-Consort, you're the Hero of Ferelden and a powerful co-ruler regardless. Like you're just going to sit by and look pretty?

The 'big deal' is that I don't want to play through DAO a third time and want to settle for a good ending that I try a lot harder to reach then the first time through.  For all I knew soon after going into this there was a difference between the game ending with my PC as Queen or ending with my PC as Princess-Consort.  Now that we know that since you are marrying the King you are Princess-Consort and can't be Queen too in title that is fine with me and that part of the thread can end now.

There's quite a bit of advice to absorb here now so I will and the path to becoming Princess-Consort seems pretty clear.  Thank you.

I’d just want to clear up one point. It IS possible  to romance (king) Alistair as an mage (with-out mods) as that’s what my first play through did but I don’t remember if I was called Princess-Consort or queen because I was far more interested in the plight of my people than the title I received.<3

Only way you can become a Princess or Queen is your a human female noble... You can romance him but you can't marry him unless you play that origin

He is king and I did the "rule at his side" option so no you don't have to be a noble but I did have a very high persuade.<3

A mage can romance Alistair and stay with him - as his lover/mistress or his Chancellor, or both. But not as his wife.
