I'm having trouble with the first part of this on insanity, I keep getting rushed by the Harbringer and he knocks me out of cover and I quickley get mowed down before I get the slightest chancwe of returning to cover.

One of the problems was I got funneled into this quest and I only have 2 med kits and 250 ammo on my heavy particle beam. Just a note to bioware I thought it was not very wise of you to force people into the quest without proper warning (I understand the story aspect of it but you should of given us the chance to wait to answer the Illusive man in the comm room)  I wanted to do are loyalty quest first so I could be properly upgraded.

Anyway enough ranting I just want to know which two squad members to choose, what bonus power should I go in with I have them all unlocked (I'm a soldier by the way) and should I bring the xfire assault rifle or the battle rifle? Any help woulod be much appreciated

Is this the one with the moving platforms, and also the place where you get the new weapon specialization? If so, I suggest bringing Mordin and Thane along. Get Heavy Warp for Thane, and also max out incinerate for Mordin. If you can deal with the armor easy (via inceindiary ammo), then maybe bring along Miranda instead of Mordin and also max out warp. If the barriers are still a problem, get the Warp Ammo from SubZeros quest and use that as your skill.

yeah it is except I don't get the new weapon because I carried over my last game.

Edit: Thanks do you have any suggestions where to order them into cover on the first platform? and should I move up to the next platform once I clear it? I though I should stay put so I have as much distance from the Harbringer as possible but maybe a different strategy would be better...

Just edited my post above.

Since I was an Adept with Thane and Mordin, I didn't really have trouble with the Barrier (which is what I assume you are having problems with b/c of your statement about the particle beam). I also had singularity which kinda stopped him from moving. The assault rifle I used was the Collector's one (from the CE), so if you don't have that idk what you should use.

I edited above as well, the assault rifle I suppose should not be to big of a deal I suppose I've been using a sniper rifle.

Bring Samra & Miranda.

Heavy reave + heavy warp tears down the barriers, allowing you to tear apart the waves fairly quickly. AR+ SMG on those two also helps. Generally if you stay at the start you can pick off the first 2-3 waves before you'd probably want to advance and grab some ammo.

Bring Samara and Thane (or Grunt if you unlocked his specialization). Once Grunt is loyal then he can be a real beast when fighting (he took on the Scion at the Collector Base and came out on top).  Also... the collector heavy weapon is a nice thing to have... it strips down barriers like you wouldn't believe.

Problem is i only did Miranda's and Jacob's loyalty mission, after that i was going to just recruit everyone and then start the loyalty mission but to my surprise i was force into this mission. So now I either some how beat it or just scaled down the difficult. Really did not liked the fact that i was forced into the mission. :alien:

I'd suggest running away to one of the platforms Harbinger would need to climb up onto and then warp spam his ass.

Ok, so like pretty much everyone else, I had a lot of trouble at first (on Insanity difficulty mode) on the Collector ship that you are forced into going to long before you want to go there. For me, I was an Infiltrator and only had Miranda's loyalty mission done. Thats it :( I chose Miranda and Grunt for the collector ship cause I figured Grunts lvl 3 Incendiary ammo would help (ya, not even lvl 4 of it yet). For the part with the platforms here is what I did:

Tell Grunt to equip special Krogan shotgun, and move to the very far forward little wall panel on the right of the middle. Also, told Grunt to use his lvl 3 Incendiary ammo.
Tell Miranda to move to the very far forward little wall panel on the left of the middle.
I then moved straight forward behind the thicker boxes for cover and equipped my sniper rifle. I used the fast firing sniper, not the starting sniper or the Widow.

Right when the first platform is about to touch down, I put on my tactical cloak (because of my damage bonus increase while its on). I then used 5 shots to snipe the Collector in the center. Right as he dies, the Collector who starts on the right moves directly behind the one you just killed. You can then pop out of snipe, and pop right back in (to get the time slowdown started again). Kill the second Collector.

After you kill the second Collector and reload, the Harbinger will be about to take over the last of the 3 Collectors. While he is doing his little "takeover animation", unload 12 sniper shots into the Scion on your right. If you have cloak ready to go again, use it to gain a bit of a damage increase. Those 12 shots should take away about 1/3 of the Scion's health. Now forget about reloading, switch to your Collector Particle Beam and shoot the Harbinger until his Barrier is gone. Then Immediately switch to your sniper and let it reload. During this time, the Harbinger will NOT be firing at you, he fires at your teammates because they are closer (yay for predictable AI!). Unload however many shots it takes into the Harbinger, it should take 5-7 shots.

A second or two before the Harbinger dies, the 2nd platform will have just started to settle down, so as soon as the Harbinger is dead, look over to the new platform and snipe the middle Collector. Any extra shots you have in the current ammo clip should be shot at the collector on the right if possible. Do NOT reload the sniper, switch to your SMG. The Harbinger should start taking over the Collector on the left now. During his animation thingy, unload as many bursts into him as you can. Yes, even with the automatic SMG you should try and burst shot it. The shots are much more accurate and do more overall damage that way. The Harbinger's barrier should be mostly gone by the time his animation stops and he is able to move. So switch back to your sniper and let it reload. By this time, your teammates should have killed the original Scion. If not, shoot a few shots at him to kill him off. Right about now, the Harbinger should be coming out of cover. Use your Cloak ability and then shoot the Harbinger 5 or 6 times to kill him.

Now you have a few seconds here before the other platform settles down. Use this time to reposition your allies to the thin walls in front of where the new platform will touch down. Revive any teammates that have died. As soon as the platform is about to touch down, use your Cloak. Pop up from cover and zoom in to the 2 Collectors on the far left. Unload into them and you should be able to kill both before they can separate from each other. Do not let your sniper reload, switch to your Collector Particle Beam. As you are switching, the Harbinger should start taking over one of the last 2 Collectors. Unload into the Harbinger with the Particle Beam and take away his Barrier, and keep using it on the Harbinger's armor until he has died. Be careful not to get excited and take your time on this last little collector.

Now you just have 1 Scion left. You and your team should still be on the original platform here, and the last Scion will hopefully be bugged and wont be able to attack you. He is stuck to far away for his Shockwave to hit you. You can take all the time you want killing him. I suggest using only powers and saving your ammo. Sure it takes a while, but you need the ammo for your next fight.

Once the Scion is dead, you can click on the thing in the middle of your platform and end this horrible area. Dont worry if it takes you 4 or 5 tries to beat this area, it just takes a little practice. Be sure to save it right away now, just in case.

Mmmm likley the toughest mission on Insanity (IMO).

1. When harbinger fires the Black thing that knocks you out of cover move left then right or visa versa and it will go over your head instead of stunning you and likley killing you.

2. Be in cover when the Scions attack you and if possible move your sqaud mates away from you at the beggining, when the scion fires its shockwave thing if your sqaud mates are near or behind you it will very likley hit and kill them.

3. Using a grenade launcher its not to hard to kill all 3 collectors on the first platform before harbinger posses one.

I beat this mission using Miranda and Mordin, brought down barriers with warp, used incinerate to kill armor and health it has a nice blast radius.
Bonus power I would definitley say Warp Ammo since it will be useful against everything you face in this mission.
Also your a Soldier so I would suggest you make alot of use of the advanced weapon you pick up prior to the combat in this mission they all have a great amount of stopping power and will really help make this mission easier.

I did. Its still good advice for anyone trying to beat it. It was actually one of the top 3 links on google when I searched about how to beat the Collector ship. So apparently quite a few people must still read it..

beating a dead horse: I hate the forcing into Elusive Man quests. Can't I just properly level up my guys like every other RPG ever made?

I did it with 3 adepts, Miranda and Jacob were the two team mates and Jacob had squad incendiary ammo. Pull and unstable warp on the drones makes them go boom and singularities on Harbinger to stop him from moving and shooting energy balls at you.

Grab the Cain. And honestly, as painful as it sounds, I don't think you'll be able to beat this part of the game with only 2 med kits. I'm sorry to say that, but its just my personal opinion. Anyway, I beat it with Miranda and Mordin. I simply Cained the last platform of enemies and got lucky by taking out every last enemy.

But it was tough... very tough...

The best advise I can give is to move back and forth under cover when you see that gravity ball (the black swirly power that harbinger uses) get close to you. It will usually make it fly right past you if your moving. Then you won't be staggered out of cover.
