Getting "all the favorites back" will be impossible. You give the fanbase Tali and Garrus, then the Thane and Miranda fans come out demanding their own satisfaction.

They can't please everyone; some of the romances will not have large roles in ME3. We have 9 LI's, 8 of which are potentially dead. If they're all squadmates then their roles won't be very important.

But hey, ME is going the way of the shooter. Perhaps ME3 won't have any RPG elements at all and party members will completely interchangeable and virtually non-existent in depth. :wizard:

Although I do like Tali as a
character (I said like... not that she was the best) she will most
likely have to play a lesser role, or at the very most just a squadmate
roll in Mass Effect 3. Given she can die at the end of Mass Effect 2, I
think it's pretty safe to assume they would not make her as important
of a character as they did in ME2 (she's the first person you reunite
with, etc). She'll be in ME3, obviously, or everyone in this thread
would bomb Bioware HQ, but she'll most likely be a minor character or
standard squadmate at best.

My post in another thread... can be applied to Tali and Garrus and pretty much sums up how I feel about it.

I honestly, sincerely don't expect Bioware to turn potentially dead people into squadmates. That's a lot of work and resouces for something not everyone will experience. Again I point to Wrex in ME2. He was a fan favorite from ME1, but he's potentially dead.

I seem to say this a lot.

Have you considered that you can leave Grunt and Legion, never activating them? Same thing.

I don't think it's just BioWare listening to fans. They obviously can judge for themselves which characters to include based on the storyline that they have in mind, but I have to agree that fan interest is a factor. Otherwise there wouldn't be so much inter-species "relations" jokes in the game.

I think by now it is clear that Tali and Garrus are the two most developed characters around, so it's pretty obvious that they'll be in the game. Nevertheless, I'll add my "vote" of support for having them as full squadmates again.

Of couse they'll be in the game. My point is that there's no reason to expect that they'll be squadmates or anything larger than a "cool cameo" ala Wrex.

Hopefully they would be back as squadmates. But I can imgaine it being extremily difficult to implement. But the minimum is a cool cameo.

I just don't want Liara back. Please.

So you think they're going to give us an entirely new squad again? Right after we just scowered the galaxy for the best it had to offer?

Garrus is my man! I take him around for most of my missions.

Tali is just fun to have around in general. She doesn't even have to be part of the squad, it'd settle for having her simply keeping the engines running.

Funny thing about Mass Effect, nearly every character has a massive fanbase. It'd be hard to give some of them major plot relevance when they can die, but it would also be hard to marginalize them without their fans going into an uproar.

I think both squads should return in Mass Effect 3, it would be even better than a Led Zeppelin reunion!Image IPB

So why were they here? It would have been easier to ignore them altogether and not make them LIs. If they are, it means BioWare is committed to developing them. I highly doubt they'd think "oh, we'll give them time because they seem popular, but then we're going to shove them aside for some new guys".

Hell, I'm sure the writers themselves realise that they're the most interesting characters around, and since they're also favourites, it's only logical to have them in the team to the very end. Everybody wins.

Compared to Samara or Aria, she is one of the most uninspired Asari in the game. Even her threatening a guy on the hologram had me laughing.
If we are going ot have an Asari as a squadmate, it should be Samara or someone her equal. Not Liara.

Oh please yes. They're my absolute favorites in ME2. Please let them come back so My epic team of doom can defeat the reapers and then go out for beers afterwards.

No, I don't think the squad will be "entirely" new. They definitely will give us new members, though. They still have to cater somewhat to people who don't play ME1 or ME2, and new squadmembers are very easy to implement as opposed to a plethora of old squadmates who are potentially dead and full of character change in ME2. Would Bioware have to take into account who lived and died? Yep. Would they have to take into account whether or not they were romanced? Yep. Would they have to account for doing their loyalty missions? Probably.

With new characters none of those complex problems exist. I can see Tali going back to the fleet as a leader figure for the flotilla, and she can lead their ships in the battle against the reapers. Cameos like that.

I think Liara definitely has the best chance of returning. She's played vital roles in both games and she's guaranteed alive. They might throw Kaidan and Ashley back too, giving them identical roles. The ME2 characters... not much hope, really for squadmate status imo.

While I hope she's in ME3 as a squadmate, I am not going to get worked up about it until they at least give us some info on it.

I am keeping the "expect the worst, hope for the best" attitude until it draws closer.

Garrus and Tali were on my A team a lot in both of these games and especially since Tali became my LI here in 2. These are the two "veterans" that have stuck it through and I'll be incredibly disappointed and surprised if they aren't back for part 3 and as squad mates.

I entirely disgaree, Liara is a very important character in this trilogy and Bioware by now is aware that alot of the fans are disapointed in how the Mass Effect LI characters were treated in this game.

No doubt in my mind that Liara should play a huge role in Mass Effect 3, I forsee Sheppard assisting her in tracking down the Shadow Broker and Liara returning as a potential squad member. Obviously Liara is a popular enough character to have a 4 part comic book series centred around her between both games.

In Mass Effect 1, you just pick up whoever's convenient. Mass Effect 2 is all about building a solid relationship with your team and getting to know them on a really personal level. I would be really disappointed if they didn't at least come back in a role somewhere between a squadmate and Kelly Chambers.

Tali is a likely candidate for remaining as a squad member in ME3. For her loyalty mission she is either exiled from the Migrant Fleet or allowed to stay as "vas Normandy." She is inexplicably tied to Shepard. Plus Tali is the bestest and I would hate to face the Reapers without her.

Garrus is a bit harder to grasp in ME3. He reminds me of Batman, a vigilante seeking justice in a world of crime. He lost his own squad in the past so I can see him heading back out on his own to try and redeem himself. While I rarely use him in battle I do love his character, especially the friction it provides with my peace-loving paragon ways. I'd love to have him back though as he really gels with the Renegade style playthrough.

I don't mind Liara but I certainly hope you're wrong about the rest of that because I find these ME2 characters to be very compelling and rich and characters like Garrus and Tali really got developed and fleshed out more in this thing. Plus Tali is my LI!  ;)

In a crunch for an Asari, I'd easily take Samara over Liara as well although it could be interesting to see them cross paths.

I would think a lot of what you suggest here would be dependent on choices made by the player anyways.

Garrus and Tali have to be mainstays. They stuck by Shepherd for all of it.

The writers have had an arc in their head since the first game and it's fairly safe to assume that Liara was meant to be their ending heroin in the most 'canonical' sense. Some people don't like her and some people do, that's perfectly unerstandable. That just means that they might have a few people disappointed in the end... which is bound to happen when you make a story with that many open ends. There will probably be people upset that the Shepard dying ending in ME2 is noncanon as well, but they have to had -some- consistency in order to make the story work. Otherwise ME3 will need to be made 20 times as ME3: The Version Where You Made ------- Choices!

With the way the class system worked in this game, such as "Archangel" or "The Genius", it is very possible to have squadmates who have survived return.

Bioware could just put these codenames in for squad mates to recruit. Depending on who has survived, they could be past teammates, or new characters but do roughly the same job.

For example: Thane is an assassin. If he died in this game, if Thane survives in your save file, then you have a mission to recruit him. However, if he died, then hes replaced with another Drell, not the same thing but he can get the job done.

This is just an idea that was quickly thought of. It would require alot of work for Bioware, but they do also show that they don't mind working hard great game.

I guess it's about tastes.
I realise that she is going to play a role. I just don't like her and I would prefer if she isn't a squadmate, as it's a waste of space. But that's a personal taste.
