Some people just don't understand that you only need to scan as often as you can upgrade. Why are you trying to scan every planet on every system? Want to know what I do?
- I visit every planet to get 100% in each system
- I scan when I have an upgrade that requires X resource
- I only scan planets that are Rich
- I leave a planet once the scanner turns to Moderate
Each planet I take the time to scan takes me about 8-10 minutes per. My other method is simply the first point I probe if I return to it after spinning the planet around completely, I leave. Usually if I return to the first plot I will have already harvested the planet to Moderate.

You playing on PC or 360? Scanning on the PC version is outrageously quicker than on the 360. If the 360 scanning was as fast as the PC version, it really wouldn't be an issue.Darth Obvious wrote...
If you think that scanning planets takes too long then you are doing it wrong.
ah! Glad someone posted this. I'm on the PC and couldn't understand why everyone was complaining about the scanner speed. It's lightning fast on PC. I can take a planet from rich to moderate in about 3 minutes.

They replaced a massively boring timesink (the mako) with a massively boring timesink that costed them much less time and effort to implement. Success! *sighs*

Combine the Mako with the planet scanning ala Starflight.

I am a die-hard fan of Mass Effect. There were quirks in the first game, and there are quirks in the second game. Personally, I would much appreciate it if, in some kind of DLC, BioWare would create some kind of EDI upgrade that would allow her to do all the scanning. Isn't Shepard's time better spent doing other things? Isn't planetary scanning a job that's better suited for an AI?
BioWare's pretty good at responding to what people say about the game, so if you agree with me, SPEAK OUT!
