PS3 saves issue

Who at Bioware thought it was a brilliant idea to prevent PS3 users from backing up their save files? I know without the lock there's the possibility of abuse to transfer trophy and achievement stats and whatnot, but I find saving my double --and potentially triple-- digit hours worth of gameplay a little more of a priority than flaunting my trophy stats. I'm about halfway through the game and I've got a decent number of hours logged in. I hate the thought of investing all this time into DA: O and have it all wiped out because of a hard drive failure in case my PS3 dies. And please don't say I need the PC version; it ain't happening.

Resident Evil 5 did this and I had been cheesed about this too. I wasn't the only one. Capcom eventually released a patch to remove the copy protection. Can a patch be released to allow save backups for DA: O for console users? It would save so much grief for those players whose consoles do bite the dust.

Does the xBox 360 version have this same issue?

The devs can patch this, so it is something worth mentioning: not being able to backup your saves by copying them is really inconvenient!

However, for the moment, you can do a full system backup. This is a lengthy process (2 hours to backup, another 2 hours whenever you restoring), but it is a workaround.

I created a thread about it the other day, too, because it bugs the hell out of me. I now have over 120 hours put into Dragon Age and if anything were to happen to my PS3 now, then Bioware can kiss any money they'd be getting from me for Awakening goodbye, because I'd want to use my saves on it, and without them I just wouldn't want to redo that much.

no offense but saying you wont buy awakening doesnt do anything to help....95% of players will buy awakening and bioware will still be rich...your opinion isnt valued when you mention things like boycotting their products based on problems they are trying to fix, cant fix, or have nothing to do with (save locks are EA's rule not bioware's) its sad but true.

bioware is a big company and one person who refuses the purchase isnt going to hurt them when millions of people love their products and will still keep buying...especially dragon age for ps3, the ONLY game bioware has graced us with and we'll be lucky if we get more great bioware games from them

but i do agree they should find a way to fix this, crippled me when i got my yellow light...had to restart everything

I heard this suggestion too, but then someone else replied that a system backup doesn't work either. Bummer. If a dev could make this tiny little patch that'd be awesome! I knew DA: O would be a deep system both in gameplay and story choices before I played, and I didn't realize how much adds up over time. If it's one game I do NOT want to lose my progress in, it's this one.

I'm really interested in Awakening too, but again, the console version will likely be copy protected and then this cycle happens all over again. :crying:

I'm not instigating some silly boycott because I know they don't work, because of the things you've stated. I'm simply stating if my PS3 dies I'm done with Dragon Age for good, not for some sort of moral reasons or anything, just because I can't use the data from my previous saves to put into Awakening (or whatever else comes after). Integrating your character is one of the biggest features, and if I can't do that, then I'd probably just pass.

I am definetely worried about my save too but having to worry about it loosies my interest at the game... i really hope they patch it or at least able to save our saves in there system then just send it to us if needed:pinched:
