In terms of polish, ME2 looks very nice. And from what I hear, importing a character from ME1 triggers plot consequences for major choices you made in the original, which I find very cool.

For now I must wait . . . I was on my way to rescue Tali when my Xbox 360 finally red ringed and died.
I'm not suprised, it's been acting bizzare lately and I knew it was only a matter of time.
As for the thread topic, so far I prefer ME to DAO but that opinion is somewhat skewed because I've played DAO to death and have not finished ME2 because I literally played it to death.

Also after beating the game you can go anywhere in your ship and finish up quests you may have missed which is nice something Bioware should have done with DAO. I never had problems with the face i went with the default face, and my old save from ME1, and after a bit in the game you can get a plastic surgery machine for med bay to eliminate all the scarring and such.
Overall they are both great games. Mass Effect 1,2 are just a different, and unique type of game you will either love or hate.

Im more to action style of playing, like kamikazee, so I´ve often found myslef lyiong on the floor while playing DA, while in ME all you need to do is aim a good headshot

I don't think the story hangs together as well - you spend most of the game gathering your allies and not stopping the threat to the galaxy. ME1 had a much better paced story in terms of unfurling mystery and drawing you in. DAO has by far the better set of NPC's and my attachment to them is a lot higher than anyone in ME1 or 2,

Mass Effect 1 was a brilliant, inspired piece of work. I found the world in which it was set believable and tangible; and that to me makes a story. It's why George R.R. Martin’s work, in my opinion, is as good as Tolkien’s - the worlds which they have crafted are fleshed out and feel real. But after playing though Mass Effect 2 I honestly feel it is the weaker instalment, and to me, it has cheapened and tarnished what Mass Effect was.
I can't put my finger on what it was exactly that did it. The claustrophobic atmosphere, the stereotypical characters, the linear gameplay, the horrid blatant semi-fourth-wall-breaking fan service, and the out of place final chapter in the story all played a massive part in me falling out of love with the Mass Effect universe. It was quite a disappointment.
Dragon Age is, however, a new IP. David Gaider and the writers seem to be very committed to creating a real, believable, living world for us to explore and take part in. The setting is fleshed out and feels tangible; and to me, that makes a better game - especially one that's a Role Playing Game.

Dao is a traditional rpg, with story, big focus on characters and relationships
Me is an action game with some rpg elements great focus on action
Both are great games but are part of different genres

I think that, if the dlc plans of both franchises come fully to fruition, that we might be in a golden age for RPG gaming, with BioWare releasing significant new content for each game every 6 months or so (which, since we're talking about two games, really means staggered, so every 3 months or so...) until the next game in each series arrives.
All that without even knowing what they're going to bring to the table with The Old Republic.

I would have answered with the traditional fence sitting as well, however, it's not what the original poster asked. He, or she, was asking which you prefer - not which you'd play if you could only play one or the other.
Yes well I have to admit there is already a great deal of bad blood going on between conservative RPG fans who don't like Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 2 fans over there on their board and last thing I want is to continue that rather pointless debate over here and create a DAO vs. Mass Effect thing.

Yeah, too true. No need to turn this thread in to one of those. You're right; one should be able to enjoy both equally, and besides, the genres are too different to compare fairly.

And my answer is I prefer them both. I think they're both the highlights of gaming from recent years. I see ME as a sort of spiritual successor to KotOR, and the kind of action RPG that game introduced to me, and DA:O as the best isometric RPG in the 10 years since the BG franchise ended. It's like asking me to choose brownies or fudge; I'm taking both every time.

DA is one of the best RPGs I've ever played.
Also, I find the combat in ME2 pretty boring (it mostly involves spamming warp/overload and going for headshots), while I found the combat in DA more in-depth (though still too easy.)
Still....ME2 is awfully pretty to look at. And the story seems pretty decent so far (I'm ~23 hours in, every companion but 1, and I've only done 1 loyalty mission.)
