If not, why not? I would like to start like one.

You put points into the two-handed weapons tree and equip a two-handed weapon.

However, I'd advise against playing a two handed weapon warrior as you get two of them as NPCs in the game. (and 1 sword and shield warrior, and 0 dual wielding warrior.)

I think he means the starting skill. If you begin as a Human Noble or Dwarf Noble, you begin with shield bash, if you begin as a Dalish Elf, a City Elf or Dwarf Commoner, you begin with dual weapon sweep. There is no way to begin with a point in any two handed weapon skill.

Psssh....First, as a Dalish Elf, you don't get dual-weapon sweep. You get Pinning Shot.
Second, yes, you get two warriors who use two-handed weapons, one that's skilled with sword and shield. However, that doesn't mean that you can't customize the builds of the NPCs. Not to mention, if you're two-handed, and you build Alistair to be able to wield a two-hander as well, you can actually run in with 4 warriors(depending on if you use Shayle as a DPS brute also), and have everyone use something like Critical Strike on a target at the same time(that was a Flemeth...), or something willy-nilly like that. Also, don't forget that two-handed warriors bring great utility to fights, such as Indomitable(makes you immune to stuns and knockdowns), a talent that gives stunning on crit, and instant knockdown/interrupt, AoE knockdown, stuff like that.
I advise that you play the character as you picture him in your mind.

...that's certainly a matter of opinion...the character that I've had the most fun with on any playthrough so far was my two-handed templar beserker (Rex)...sure you can roll with Sten or Oghren, but with the 21 fade points & optimal equipment, any character you make yourself is going to be better than any you gain as an npc!

It's all about what you picture in your mind, and if it looks like it'll be lots of fun to you.

2h Warriors are some of the funnest characters in the game. I had a Templar/Berserker which was awesome, my party being Sten (Champion) Leliana (Ranger/Bard) and either Shale, Oghren (Reaver/Berserker) or in the end, Loghain.

QFT. It's a game, the important thing is to have fun with it. Eventually, you'll get an NPC of every different type, so don't let that stop you from making your PC what you want. And there are lots of spiff swords and armours out there for 2 handed sorts.

No, Dalish don't start with Dual Weapon Sweep, they start with Pinning Shot. Dalish Rogues start with Dual Weapon Sweep though.

No, my Dalish Warrior started with Dual Weapon Sweep as well...

Not to mention the huge difference by making your own choices on atribute points and talents.
