My question is this, if i let him and  live continue studying, does he actually discover anything, or do i just miss out on his robes?

You miss out on his robes, but you get to feel all soft and fuzzy inside. :3

it might be that in awekening he does, who knows, all I know is that I kept a safe before killing him...maybe he will fill up the two last power of blood talents? His robes are probably one of the most awesome looking robes for male mages ....., oddly enough, while the other robes look more awesome on females, this one looks kinda ugly on them...

I doubt DLCs will be part of Awakening. It was stated that you can't use the chest at Solidier's peak in awakening afterall.

The time I spared him (when he discovered nothing by the way), I didn't feel soft and fuzzy, just kind of soiled and compromised. I feel much better when I kill him. ;)

Since you can't go back in the tower, not even Avernus's portion through the separate door, you'll never know whether he did or not. I spared him the first game, to see what he came up with (requiring "humane" testing only) but now that I know he'll do me no good I kill him like he deserves, the torturing b@st@rd.

For real? I loaded up my chest there with all sorts of useful stuff on all my completed games....So will the stuff in your inventory transfer to Awakenings, anyone know? I'd at least like to start DA:A with my gold and whatever I was equipped with....

Just put everything you wana carry ovr to awakening in your inventory, save and then upload that save to awakening and it will be available to you in awakening.

So you think we'll be able to pick the save point to transfer? That would be great!

I always let Avernus live, and he never finds anything. But from a role playing perspective, I figure here is a guy that's lived 200 years with the taint instead of the 30 that most Grey Wardens live. He found ways to make more useful talents from the blood. I'd definitely hope he could do some lasting good for the Grey Wardens based on his discoveries.

Is Avernus actually a Grey Warden or just a supporter that happened to work closely with them? My impression was the latter, but I could be wrong.

agreed the way he found stuff was terrible but what he found was quite useful. Like most of the decisions in Dragonage it isn't easy. Anyone got a picture of his robes? I am styling the paragon robes on my mage now and I think they look pretty cool.

Avernus is a Grey Warden. He basically experimented on other Grey Wardens like Dr. Josef Mengele to test the limits of the Taint. In real life, the Allies didn't throw away Mengele's nightmare fuel unethical research since it would've been a waste, otherwise his victims would've died for nothing.

This is why I choose to take advantage of Avernus's research because it would benefit future Grey Wardens.

Kinda offtopic: Anyone wonder how Avernus lives so long without succumbing to the Calling?

No.  Because after years of exprimenting on how to do so, it shouldnt be surprising when he nets some results :P

Avernus! All your secrets are belong to us!

Like most of you, I hope Avernus shows up in Amaranthine in Awakening. What did you do with the time I gave you, old man?

Isn't it also hinted at that Avernus was an abomination? Some of things he says about what happened, makes it seem like when he summoned all those demons, he did get possessed, but managed to use his abilities to retain control. Perhaps being an abomination has allowed him to live so long? I don't know what that says about Wynne's lifespan then.

Well it's not apparant now, but I personally think he's working on the Warden infertility problem so it may be about a year before you know anything for sure :)

That was the example I had considered using but didn't feel right about.  It wasn't an easy choice for them though and there are some people in the bioethics field who still think they shouldn't have used it.  Fruit of evil being evil and all.

Anyway yes I hope he does discover something...

Ummmm....

Historically, this is regarded as one of the worst moral failures of the Allies after WW2...

I don't think this really counts as a justification nowadays... or ever.

Even though the PC never finds out in DA:O if Avernus finds anything, I still let him live, telling him to do it the humane way. Who knows what Avernus might find out/discover. He already found out far more in 200+ years, than the GWs knew about the taint in all their history.

Maybe he can find a way to avoid the taint's eventual take-over over the Wardens. Perhaps solve the infertility problem, or find a way that the Wardens can sense the darkspawn but not vice versa.

So, all in all, my PCs let him live, provided he sticks to the ethical pathway of experimentation and reseach.
