Installing ME2 DLC by hand?
#1
Posté 31 janvier 2010 - 11:52
Does anyone know how to install the DLC by hand? The rar file expands into a hierarchy like this:
Biogame
Biogame/DLC
Biogame/DLC/[DLCName]
Biogame/DLC/[DLCName]/Movies
Biogame/DLC/[DLCName]/CookedPC
My naive assumption is that I can just copy this into the BioGame directory into the Mass Effect 2 folder, but before I try that it'd be nice to know if anyone else has done this successfully...

In the Mass Effect 2 Folder, there's a directory called BioGame. Create a new directory in that called DLC, then just expand the .rar files and drag each [DLCName] directory into the DLC folder. When you next start the game you should get a bunch of messages in your inbox about each DLC.

Oh, and where are you suppose to be able to download this stuff 'in game'? I had to manually download all of it.

Also I used Steam to buy and install the game, which would explain why no registries were found for the game when I opened it.

Nope, that doesn't explain it. I have Steam's ME2 DD and I had no problems whatsoever.
Here are the steps I have done... naturally:
1. Start ME2 download
2. Register a BW social account
3. Open CD-Key information in steam
4. Register ME2.
5. Register DD Promo key.
6. Register CN key.
7. Launch ME2. (first time run launches bundled redistributables!)
8. Sign in when prompted.
There have been no prompts to enter any key(s) in-game. There have been no auth problems.
And when I bought Kasumi, Overlord and Shadow Broker, I simply downloaded the files and installed them. There were no problems locating ME2 nor authorizing.

You dont seem to have registered your copy of ME2 on these forums. As such, we can only assume you are running a pirated copy of the game, and thus we cant do anything to support it.
If it is legit, please register it so we know we arent dealing with something full of various crapware or other dodgy files. See this post for details of what you need to provide us to help you.

If youve downloaded it illegally, then feel free to go away and solve the problem yourself.

Another issue I had, was that after I installed all the dlc's properly, they wouldn't appear in-game. Especially the big ones :/

I have the DLC in my account:

I own the game (Originally though the EADM when I got my Dragon Age 2, I already owned Mass Effect 2, but a free copy for the PC isn't bad.)

I tend to install games before I ask for help:

And download the DLC (to a different folder):

But I don't know what's causing this:

EDIT: I also just figured out how to register my game on the forum, though I am too lazy to register the rest (aka most of the recent Bioware games back to KOTOR and NWN (though I never got the sequel).

My first question is, once you downloaded and installed the game, have you actually run it and gotten into it? I ask this because I know Steam doesnt actually finish the installation of the game until you try and run it, and its not until the game is run that the final registry entries are written that will get the DLC to recognise that ME2 is installed. Yes, i know you have yours through Origins, but Im not familiar with it, so can only go by what I know from other digital distributions.
Did you run the Origins installer, and DLC installers, as admin?
Also, there are a few other solutions to this problem in this thread. Have a look and give them a try if my suggestions dont work.

I have high-speed cable Internet. I was able to download the game from Steam in under two hours. Downloading the dlc is taking me three hours and counting.
A few times, I thought the dl had frozen, when in fact it was just moving as slow as molasses. The "verifying" stage can take well over 15 minutes.. There can also be a long (over 10 minutes) lag between the download completing and the ME2 installation wizard opening up. Extraction is yet another lag feast.
Large addons (quests rather than weapon packs) tend to crash out or freeze up if two or more are downloaded at the same time. Try going one-by-one. Be prepared to sit there and wait for multiple prompts.
I have no technical insights, just the context that you are working on server-side junky bandwith and an unstable program that offers little to no user feedback. Some faith is required.

I too, have high speed cable internet access, and yet it takes me a matter of minutes to get most DLC, and again only minutes to run them.
You are supposed to download the installer and save it to your computer, instead of runnnig it from the website, which, by the sounds of it, is what you are trying to do.
All of your problems are being caused by your self-admitted lack of knowledge. It would be advisable for you to undergo a computer basics course so you dont experience these problems in future.

Steam create additional issues for installing DLC beacuse of the way that Steam works. When you install the game, it does not actually comlpate the instalation and create final regsitry entries until you actually run the game. This pervents DLC from being installed because it cannot find those regsitry entries. Steam problem, not DLC problem.

This is the best one yet! The dwarf admits that the software is so ridiculous, you need computer courses to run it!
I, of course, "self-admitted" (sic) nothing. This was not a Steam issue, as I opened the game and completed the installation first. And I was not running it from the website. So my lack of knowledge is in fact not very lacking.
Any other frustrated techies want to take a shot at being condescending just because I dared criticize the game company with which they over-identify? You should hurry up, because I'd better go get a master's in programming and computer repair so I'm ready for ME3.
