I really liked playing it, especially with all the little bits from importing my ME1 char. I just feel kinda cheated there wasn't more to do in the game as far as quests go.

I probed so many planets they probably have restraining orders. I figured out it's the most pointless thing to do in the game. Utter waste of time, it's not fun or entertaining. I prefered when you just scanned it and you got the resources. Then again I hated riding around on the mako for 10 minutes to get to some stupid node over a 250foot mountain. Freaking redundant and annoying. They seriouslly need to take that crap out of the game. A good 5 hours of gameplay went into luanching probes and going back to buy more. In the end I still had about 200k of everything and for what? Nothing. The most expensive upgrade in the game is the stupid scar removing thing which is an utter waste of resources.

Game needs more extras, the story line was great in my opinion and playing through it was a lot of fun. In the end it feels like it all ended way too fast. Like my first time having sex. That's not what I expected, I expected a week of not talking to people. Friends calling me up and asking me if I was still alive. Well... they're aleady doing that but I wanted a few more days of gameplay. I guess despite all the fun I had playing the game I'm still dissapointed. Just doesn't have enough content. I don't care if too much of a good thing is bad for me. I still want more!

Short compared to what? ME1? It the same length for me. I completed each 100% in 35 hours

20+ hours per playthrough is great, and while scanning does get tedious the assignment page on the me wiki shows the location of all the n7 assignments. Just write them down, play them, and smile :)

Well I got it on release day (Tuesday) and didn't finish until last night. I think I logged about 30 hours, which was plenty for me. I mean it's always nice to have more things to do and drag out the experience as long as possible, but I feel like I got my money's worth.

Keep in mind I didn't read or listen to any of the codexes, but I did all the side missions, got all loyalty, the important upgrades, and talked to everybody.

It took me 24 hours (and I kinda-sorta did that in a straight 24 hours) to beat the game and I haven't done all the assignments.

It took me 18 hours to be ME1 with all sidequests, all filler Mako sections, to finish. It was definitely long enough for me, longer than ME1, not quite as long as DAO but I never expected it would be.

I don't know about you but 45 hours for my playthrough certainly wasn't short.

My first playthrough took 25 hours, and that's with having only done 4-5 N7 missions, and all the loyalty missions. Didn't do too many side missions other than that.

Well I generally do investigate and listen to the people blabber. So it took me 50 hours. Some of it I might have been eating or something also.

It took me 40 hours and I still felt as though it was too short. Then again, I felt ME1 was too short too. Maybe I'm just used to Bioware spoiling me with 60+ hour games. Maybe I was a bit "tricked" at how most of the early quests were appearing a lot like side-quests. I don't know, I just wish I had more time to get to know the teammates. I guess it is appropriate to the story, as you want to end the threat as soon as your team can handle it.

It was perfect length and depth. I absolutely loved having a unique quest for each of my party members. So many times in RPG the character sidequests are minor and involve picking something up along the way, or a single encounter (DA:O / ME1 comes to mind).

Best of all, no more wasting hours in that damned Mako.

The way I see it is in ME1 the story took 7-10 hours. Doing all the good sidequests and forgetting collecting all the pointless stuff in the mako and you maybe have 15-20 hours. ME2 took me 30 hours and I barely did any scanning and maybe 5 N7 missions, explored, did minor sidequests. And I can't wait to play it again differently and completeing it 100%. It's a much better experience all around.

Not to mention most of the sidequests used recycled resources. Here every single quest was original.

I like the shorter length because that saves a lot of time for other play thrus. When a playthrough can eat up 70 hours or more like DA:O, I just don't feel like playing again.

Well, it IS short if you consider the storyline missions. It's not short when you consider how many missions regarding your squadmates there was.

Did you play paragon and renegade characters? Its different for each character. Lot of lines in there. Overall I think the game was just fine. Its hard to cram in so many lines in the whole game and completely change the ending based on your actions. I'm sure Mass Effect 3 will be even larger and that it will go with a bang.

ME2 has the illusion that it is short. You spend a lot of time doing several not so intense missions leading up to the one HUGE suicidal mission.

In ME1 there are a few big missions with a lot of impact on world/universe ending with one big conflict at the citadel.

It's not the best analogy but its kind of like The fifth element, you start watching and you get into it and when it ends you feel like it was one of the shortest movies ever, you look down at your watch and see that 2 hours have passed.

It's a mix of how engrossed you were in the story and pacing.

ME2 was paced much faster than the first one, there was a sense of urgency. In reality it was about the same length.

Still...MOAR MOAR MOAR OH GOD MOAR.

It took me 48 hours before beating my first playthrough, but I scanned practically all planets there was to scan, all star systems were completed at 100% and I had done all the side-quests, but a good six or seven hours went into scanning planets, simply because when I did scan a planet I completely emptied it of its resources, I mean even when it reached the "Depleted" status I kept finding more, I could easily spend from as low as 10 minutes to as much as one hour per planet (well, maybe 40 minutes at most for a single planet, fortunately such resources-rich planets aren't that numerous).

In my second playthrough I will concentrate my scanning efforts for the resources "spikes" only, I will ignore the "minor fluctuations" that I used to get in my first playthrough. But, in the end, I agree that BioWare should find a better way to interact with planets, I actually preferred using the Mako over scanning for resources, especially considering that at the end of my first playthrough I had about 400K+ of Iridium, Platinum and that other one to the far right, and I had about 175K of Element Zero, and that's AFTER researching all the researches I could find. There's just too much resources to find for no reasons, and the player does NOT know about that in the first playthrough, so it was ultimately a waste of time.

If I removed the time I spent scanning for resources then yes ME2 IS indeed shorter than ME1, since in ME1 it took me exactly 44 hours to beat it the first time and there's much less driving the Mako moments than there's scanning for resources moments in ME2.

I miss having hundreds of armors and guns to choose from also. What happened to all the manufacturers and different weapons?

49 hours on my first playthrough. People who call this game short are rushing it.

I don't think it's short... I just think it could be longer. I guess I expected to ride around the planets like in ME1. I was also expecting more assignments for the planets. What is it like 10? 12? Not nearly as many as the first game.

SHORT is relative to the amount of storyline. I could spend 20 hours scanning planets and claim the game is longer. There's what, 4 storyline missions? The game is long time-wise, but short compared to story. Perhaps that's a better explanation. I am not complaining because I was happy with it anyway, but imagine what it would be with 4 MORE storyline missions on top of all these squad missions and the side missions. Then we'd start to get close to epic.
