Lost all achivements after game crashed, PC Version

I just had my game crash during a cutscene with the Illusive Man and my PC locked up. Okay, not a BIG deal, I did have to turn it off and reboot. When I did so, it made me go through the process of typing in my e-mail addy and password so the game would log onto the servers again. My saves are fine, so I can keep playing of course, but now it's acting like neither character (I have two) has achieved anything, I just did a weapon upgrade and a prototype one, and in both cases it shows as if I had never done so. Checking achievements off of the main menu or in Shepard's quarters shows no achievements other then the one or two I got for researching two items just now.
Any suggestions? Is a server down and it's just coincedence that I can't see my achievements? Am I just minorly SOL (I'm not that worried about it, but it is mildly annoying too) and I won't get my real achievements until I decide to restart a new game?
Any input/suggestions are of course welcome.
Addendum: I tried an older save, same thing. I'm assuming the game is logging onto their servers. I might take the liberty of posting a copy of this post in the PC help forum for this game too.
Forgot to add, running Windows 7 64bit, this is a collector's edition of the PC version of the game and I got the game from Amazon.com. If there's a patch I don't have it yet. I also double posted, my bad. I'd like to keep this one the active post, moderators please feel free to lock or delete the other one.

Anyway it seems the achievements are saved in "Player1.prf" inside BIOGame\\Profile. I tested this by deleting this file then loading a save to get an achievement, verified via Main menu that I have the achievement then exited out of the game deleted that file again and back in game verified again that the achievement was gone.
Please note that if you delete this file it will say that you will need to log into EA Online and Cerberus to verify that any additionally installed DLC (this includes pre-order and CE/DD boni) is really yours.
I also had to do this when ME2 crashed on me when I lost the achievements, so it seems if this file is deleted you will have lost your achievements.
If you backed up the entire Mass Effect 2 folder structure (incl. BIOGame\\Profile) try to restore Player1.prf if not you're out of luck (or so it would seem - I'm in that boat too).
I am thinking about testing if one can load earlier saves, say, a Pergutory save, then complete the mission and get back to the Normandy to get the "The Convict" achievement. Then just load your most recent save or continue to hunt for any other achievements you might have lost.
I mean since they don't seem tied to your saves it should be possible.
EDIT: This seems to have worked. I now have the "The Convict" achievement while I am running of my latest save after the Horizon mission. So if it matters to you and you are willing to invest some time, you will be able to get some achievements back, at least the main story bound achievements depending on how often you backed up your saves.
I wouldn't worry too much about the "kill x number of targets", "reasearch y upgrades" type of achievements though. These will most likely just fall into place by just continuing to play the game...

If you right click on that file you MIGHT have an option to restore to previous versions. Select the most recent version of the file from the list that predates your crash and restore. My most recent was about a day old so I still lost a few achievements but not many.
It'll only work if your system restore is turned on (and you're using Vista or Win 7) and is backing up your users folders. If not then I'm afraid you'll need to find a copy of someone elses Player1.prf and hope they have roughly the same achievements that you do. You'll also have to reset any custom keybinds if you replace the file with someone elses.

The problem stems from using a drive for my "My Documents" folder. Fixed the save issue, but not I'm faced with the achievements issue. Anyone willing to email me a basic one?

Your ME2 achievements appear to be stored locally on your computer. This happened to me and I was able to restore most of my achievements by restoring the profile file from the Windows backup. If you go into your "Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\BIOGame\\\\Profile" folder there's a file called Player1.prf.

thanks for telling me this, I haven't gone into game yet but I did manage to restore to a version time stamped Jan 29th. Hopefully that will give me at least some of my achievements back. As an aside I am in Win 7 64 bit.

eeem player1.prf? How do you get the file player1.prf?
I also had a problem with my saves but that got solved makin folders for characters and putting saves into right cathegories.
A guess i've made is that the main program can't creat files and folders so mayby a some security program that's blockin game from creating the nessesary files to get achivements and such.
still speculating though

Sadly, rapidshare told me that the file could only been downloaded 10 times, and the limit had been reached. So... if you've still got the file ryanratto (or anyone else), could you upload it again? Cos after playing for just over 35hours to get most of the way there, I'm not sure I want to go through the entire thing again.
Thanks,
Tim

On-topic, back up all your player1 prf files. Consistently.

It's not just that mate, read what I just said. The player file carries online registration details as well. It's not to be shared. Unfortunately, this means you will have to go through gaining all achievements again. It's a bug mate. Use backups.
