Yes I had the same problem - my batteries ran out and the Xbox warning message came up but the gameplay continued - weird! Needs to be fixed though.

Why would you want to change the game? Can you please explain what you mean, because I didn't get it?
This issue has probably nothing to do with a disc itself, but rather "feature not implemented", so wait for a patch (if it will be ever fixed at all). But I don't think this will be ever fixed at all, because DA:O has an issue of not having button to delete savegames/profiles from HD (except manualy) and it is not fixed so far, nor is there any info on if it will be adressed. So probably same will happen with ME2.

Wait for a patch?
No offense but it's not that hard to keep an eye on your controller and change batteries.

@Vigor, neh it's not, but mine tells me that I should change battery though it still lasts for a day or two. And I allways wait for a last moment. So you can say that its our own problem to change bats in timly fasion, but if all games pause when this happen and this don't thus its a bug.
Edit 1: Hope I didn't sound offensive, because Im not
Edit 2: Probably not a bug, but rather "not implemented feature", unless its implemented and just don't work

Mass Effect doesn't have a pause menu at all persay. It has a meny, but it's more a in game menu. Due to how it won't allow pausing in cinamatics, it's not surprising it doesn't allow for pausing when the batteries run out.

True but Cinematics will still pause when you open the mini-Dashboard window (xbox button on controller), so it should at least pause when the batteries fail.
The only thing that doesnt pause during this, I find, is on main loading screens.

I hate this little feature/oversight.
was really into the game on a level where they send waves upon waves of enemies at you, did not see my controller lights saying they're low.
controllers dies at the end of a wave, press the button controller refuses to turn back on, 2nd wave comes in, I'm on my knees digging through my drawer trying to find my plug N charge cable.. find it plug it into the 360, plug it into my controller, buttons flash on controller and it connects.....
I look up, before I can even get to cover my shepard dies
