I first have to say this was the first game (ME1) that actually made me a "fan" of a game.  Ever since I saw the footage at E3 (BTW showing the death scene of Sheppard was very, very, very cruel) I have been counting down the days!  I just wanted to say this to put into context what I'm about to write doesn't come from an angry gamer or a cynic.  This comes from someone who feels this was the only part in this game that seems to be "held back" compared to the first Mass Effect.

The flirting, all the different chat options, the build up, the animation, it all felt very organic.  But the pay-off felt extremely held back.  In the first ME1 the passion between the two characters felt real.  Clothes were flung off and the way it was shot was perfect.  But in ME2 (heck, even Dragon Age) if felt extremely toned down.  Almost a "Leave it to Beaver" kind of thing where you see two people kiss and then we cut to a window with the wind rushing in as the music gets louder.

What changed?  Was it Fox and their inability to research and report the truth?  Some Christians small-minded views? (FYI I'm a Christian)  The biggest complaint is that the character models don't really change in these scenes.  Unlike ME1 where we got to see people naked, they all keep their clothes on in ME2.  Wasn't Mass Effect & Dragon Age geared towards a more mature audience in the first place?  With the average age of a gamer now up to around 32 years of age I keep wondering why Bioware held back with this.
  • My biggest disapointment was with Tali.  Now don't get me wrong, I was absolutely thrilled when I found out I could start a relationship with her!  But I felt more than cheated when we ended up (once again) staying in our clothes and I don't even get to see her face (regardless of seeing the rest of her).  If I'm supposed to be Shepard then I should get to see what Shepard is seeing.  He got to see her face, why couldn't I?  And I think that's the crux of it all...when you make the player feel disconnected from their character thats when you loose the player.
  • Oh and having her have the same dialog at the end of the game (where she once again questions our relationship even though she JUST got done saying how happy she was) felt like a bug.
In the end I know this could feel like nitpicking...but when you make this well thought out emotional roller coaster of a game, but hold back at a key emotional moment, that's why it stands out.  I know nothing can be changed for ME2, but I am completely hopeful that Bioware will listen to their fans and take these suggestions to heart for Mass Effect 3.  Don't be bogged down by cynics, the non-game playing media, or politicians that just want to look better for the parents.  In the end ME2 was still a 10 in my book and I greatly look forward to everything else that is coming out for this franchise.  Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk; the two best surgeons in the gaming industry!

Thanks for your time in reading...If anyone else feels the same or has a similar comment I would love to hear it!
