Just how -better- are rogues to fight with daggers? I understood from the manual that they were supposedly superior weapons for rogues, if your dexterity was high.
My first character is a city elf rogue, and I've not put a dime in strength so far. I was aiming to get the skill that lets me add cunning to damage, it looks quite good. But so far I'm using a longsword + dagger in fighting, though I would much rather prefer dual daggers, provided they are good enough. A rough look over the damage indicators however, tell me that longsword + dagger is superior...
Tell me your experiences with them daggers. Are there things you can't do with longswords, such as backstab, or does simply wielding daggers give you higher armor penetatration or crit?

the damage indicators don't add in backstab damage + lethality bonus. The problem with the longsword is that the high level versions require strength which a rouge wants to dump into cunning. So its better to stick with dagger and 20 strength.
A warrior that duels might want to use 2 longsword since they don't use cunning hence they will dump into strength for better armor / damage

Except, now we find out that there is a bug with DEX and daggers. Their viability in mid to late game has come into question. Better find a long sword for that main hand rogues.

Can you explain this further? Does it not scale properly?

Apparently daggers are the one weapon that do benefit from increased dexterity, or at least that's how it appears.

From what I read, instead of doing half dam from dex and str modifiers. The dagger does all from str. Making it less than a good weapon for rogues.

A DEV actually said that it was ok because you could get the talent that lets you use two lg. weapons in the dual tree. I almost dropped my beer at that statement. Here is the link

But won't that change once you get the level 8 tallent that lets you use cunning instead of strength?

lol, I guess rogues just have to settle for not being able to use the best long swords. It won't matter much since rogues focus on backstabing to do damage. And duel wielding is about speedy attacks so that can add up to a lot of backstabs (which are like crits) quickly. It doesn't matter if you don't have the strength for the best longsword since you will still do a lot of damage with backstabs.

Doesn't change the fact that dex does nothing for daggers.Giantmoth wrote...

It means, that if a rogue wants to get decent dam? He has to take more STR. Now instead of 3 important stats. (which is allready 1 too many) A rogue has 4 important stats. Thats a huge prob.
Middling STR for a rogue is not really an option until this is fixed. Hopefully first patch.

One thing it does change is the total concept for how to equip a rogue. Eeven if you go with Lg. sword and dagger? You still need to put more points in STR to do the damage you should be doing with half as much. Thats a severe burden for rogues. Hopefuly fixed in the FIRST patch!!!
