I am play with a elven rogue with the Duelist specialization. I have been having trouble deciding what two daggers I should be equipped with. For quite awhile I have had two Silverlite Daggers with two rune slots each. I am currently in Orzammar and am trying to get the 145 gold needed to buy the Rose's Thorn from a vendor, but that could take some time. The only other dagger in my inventory is Olaf's Cheese knife, which I can't decide if it is worth equipping.

In short, is there a better dagger or daggers other than Rose's Thorn that I should be trying to find/buy?

No there isn't. However, there is no need to buy it now. If you have DLCs, you can get the Edge dagger which is a killer weapon with a huge attack and damage bonus. You can just download and install it anytime. In Orzammar you will also find a good tier 6 dagger called thorn of the gods. Finally, you can do Shale's quest after Orzammar and get dead thaig shanker.

When the vendors upgrade you'll start getting regular tier 7 daggers with 3 rune slots from the vendors. You won't find anything as good as the Rose's Thorn, but you might find the Tier 7 Crow Dagger (3 rune slots, +15% critical/backstab damage) and I think it's around 7-8 sovereigns. Mr_Raider mentioned the others.

I did come across the Crow Dagger, I think it was level 7. It should be in my inventory somewhere since I haven't done much since that, worst case, I can buy it back from who ever i sold it to.

Mr_Raider, The only DLC I have is Stone Prisoner, can i get the Edge with this?

The Edge is a special promo item. You can manually download it, I am not sure if it will work or not though as I don't know if it needs authorization. If you're on the PC, you can also get a mod that puts an equivalently powered dagger in Bodahn's inventory (costs about 25 gold).

If you have a City Elf, you have a good chance to get a really wonderful dagger called Fang. It's a really well done scene, so even in the spoilers section, I won't tell you how you get it. But it happens late in game and is fairly automatic unless you're RPing a complete twit.

Beastmawn's Dagger from the Circle Tower was also pretty decent, I believe. Not top tier, I think it was 5, but I've used it for some time, before getting better ones.

Overall the Edge is the best. If you don't have it, you might have to manually download some DLC files for it.

Otherwise the Dead Thaig Shanker you get in Shale's quest in the Deep Roads is pretty nice.

Yes, that's how I got it.  (I have the PC version; I'm not sure if this makes a difference.)

I wouldn't even waste time (or money) buying other daggers: eventually, high-level--but otherwise useless--equipment starts dropping all over the place.  Sell that stuff and you'll rack up the gold fairly quickly and will have enough to buy The Rose's Thorn before too long.

Thanks for all the replies. My next stop is the Deep Roads, so it sounds like I should include Shale in my party to get her side quest.

I'll look into downloading some of the promotional items, though since I'm on the PS3, if they aren't available directly, I am out of luck.

No. Just talk to him/her/it in camp after you complete the anvil of the void.

Well, if you destroy it, then it's probably best if Shale is present during the last part of the Deep Roads (you get a chance to switch your party composition for that last part). It has some conversation there.

Otherwise if you want to keep it... yes, better leave Shale in the camp... and make sure your Coercion is high to tell it a bunch of lies later....

The Rose's thorn, from what I've heard, is the best dagger in the game. The super expensive items that you sometimes find at these vendors are all extremely valuable upgrades and really good to have equipped.

The cheese knife is only really really good until later on in the game. You'll reach a point where other daggers are just too good to pass up and the cheese knife will be but a memory. I've held on to mine hoping that eventually I'll be able to equip it on Morrigan. But that's the only reason.

Later on in the game, the money comes alot easier. You just gotta be wise about how you spend it. And that can be difficult since crafting your consumables in general can get pretty expensive (but still essential). Later on it's just alot easier to make the money required to be prepared and have the consumbales you want always on-hand. A decent weapon upgrade here or there doesn't hurt but runes can get expensive too. Try to find a balance between what you want and what you need and keep saving. Eventually you'll have enough to get the really good vestments.

I've heard that one way to make really easy money is to buy the potent lyrium potion recipe at the wonders of thedus shop in Denerim and make as many as you can at a time, and re-sell it at a certain location (can't remember where but it's in these forums). You make a few silvers profit for each one you make. It can just get really boring from what I heard (but perhaps worth the effort just depending on how you look at it).

Swiping guards and commoners in Denerim and Orzrammar can also land you a few extra sovereigns but that also takes a little time.

There is no point getting rose's thorn until you have three good mainhand runes to put in it. The damage only ramps up with three grand master runes. Putting two novice frost and a journeyman hale rune in it doesn't justify the cost.

Fang is one of the best daggers, especially if you get it when you're level 19+ as it would be a tier 7 Dragonbone dagger with 3 rune slots. Unfortunately you can only get it if you're a city elf and made certain decisions in your origin story.

The best dagger is The Rose's Thorn though. If you don't include DLC daggers like The Edge or Dead Thaig Shanker, the other good daggers worth wielding are Thorn of the Dead Gods (from Deep Roads) and Beastman's Dagger (from the Circle Tower).
