You can craft potent lyrium potions and sell them for a profit. Each potion needs 4 lyrium dust (unlimited from the Circle quartermaster), 1 flask, 2 concentrator agent and 2 distilation agent (buy them at the bar in Denerim). You can them sell them for more than it cost to make them (If you're a dwarf noble Gorim will give you the best price). Don't buy any reagents from the camp merchant, he has really high prices.

Oh, you can buy the recipe at Wonders of Thedas (magic store in Denerim) and you'll need someone with maxed herbalism.

^ As he said. There are also a bunch of quests that give you easy money. A thief in the house of learning, Asunder, Crime Wave, Precious Metals among others. Most quests give you at least 1-2 gold per.

The Dead templar gives you 1 Gold, can do it as soon as you get into lothering, Loot the templar [everything] then go to the chantry and talk to the guy with the symbol above his head, that indicates a cutscene scenario, hes before the revered mother.

Oh don't forget to pickpocket Rogek, you can get 20 Sovereigns.

Rogek's quest is the most lucrative in the game--I netted 68 sovereigns, plus a really cool dagger, and that was without pickpocketing him. You'll need 40 sovereigns, high persuade/intimidate, and to have sided with the mages in the Circle quest.
