Been playing ME2 about 7 hours on Xbox. Burned to HD. Have done Citadel,Jack,Mordin,ArcAngel,and am on Krogan mission right now. The game has freezed my xbox over 15 times. This is unacceptable. The first ME froze maybe 5 times ever, in 4 complete playthroughs on same xbox and harddrive.

Sometimes it happens when I open a door,in a cutscene,walking to the next fight and during load screens. It seems like it's happening more often the more I play. No other game has froze this many times. I love Mass Effect and everything about the games. But having to turn my xbox off every 10-20 minutes is ridiculous. Sometimes when I restart from it freezing. I get to the main menu wait for the cerberus laptop, then it says disc unreadable or dirty. Eventhough I've burned to the HD.

Also the audio was out of sync during the first investigation mission and Anderson had his back to me once while talking and kept trying to turn his head around to look at me.

I hope it's maybe my xbox that's causing the problem, which I bought in June of 06, maybe it's getting old or if burning to the HD is the problem. Whatever the cause. If you know anything to fix this or having similar issues please tell me. I just want it to stop freezing. It's ruining the experience.

I've had 2 issues with glitches in 26+ hours of gameplay. As I walk I magically can't go down or move forward I end up stuck hovering above the ground. Luckily they were early on(like 2 minutes) in a main mission and on a very fast N7 mission. I simply went to the load screen and restarted those missions and I was fine.

I can't because it freezes my xbox. I can't even bring up the guide. I have to manually push power to do anything.

I've never had issues with ME1; other than Benezia being a bastard to kill on Insanity lol. Other than that, I've looked around and a lot of the "freezing" is a foreshadow event of the RRoD [Red Ring of Death]. I hope to god its JUST the game, really! But... you better start looking for small coffins just to be safe.

I have problems with periodic freezing as well. The only two games I've had any problems with are ME2 and Dragon Age. With DA, the problem was so bad I had to give the game to a friend (who had no issues). I suspect it is a problem with my HDD, as it does not seem to be affecting many other people.

Yeah I've been asking friends on Xbox if they've had any problems. Only 1 person said they haven't had any problems but everyone else said it's only froze once or twice. So I think it's mostly due to my xbox. Even though no other games I play freeze this many times or at all.

Looks like it is just you and me, mantra. The reason I suspect my HDD is that copying it to my HDD makes is much worse. Strangely, I get a "disc unreadable" error, recommending I clean it (and I assume they are talking about the DVD) when I am trying to play from the HDD. If I knew for certain it was my HDD, I'd replace it with something larger than my current 20GB. But I don't want to drop a hundred bucks on one only to find out my whole 360 needs replacing.

Right on. I'm going to try playing from disc. But I'm definitely trading in my Pro for an Elite and hopefully just forget about this kind of stuff since mine is so old.

I'm having the same freezing issue as you mantra. Will tell me it has a "disk read error" when that isn't really the problem (its a brand new disk drive even that I know works well!).



I've done the test for the hard drive by playing the game off my memory card and removing my hard drive (original 20GB) and it plays just fine. This leads me to believe the old 20GB just can't cut it for whatever reason (mine isn't even very full).



I can't even load the game onto the hard drive to try that route as it just says about a quarter of the way into the upload that it cannot read the disc. Guess I need to upgrade.

only issue i seem to be having is the cover system, every time i go into cover to change out my weapons or switch my biotics it will take me out of cover then i die because i cant go back into it due to it changing. this is really annoying on a higher difficulty

I beat the game yesterday, and today when I went to replay through on Hardcore difficulty it freezes on the cut-scene in the medical bay. I've tried turning off my Xbox 3 times and it freezes in the same place every time.

Edit: I got through on the 4th try.

I am having the same problem starting a new character or importing ME2 characters it freezes in the same spot as Wyln. It works just fine when I use my ME1 character but this is crap how I have to watch an extremely long intro 3 times or install and unistall to my hard drive. I love the game but not being able to continue my game with stuff I spent 40 hours getting is extraordinarily irritating.

Yeah it froze for me as well. I had to call EA games, and they gave me some troubleshooting tips for the crappy 360. So we'll see i guess; i have sent it in twice already "pos" Awesome game though lol

Well I tried playing from disc. I didn't see much improvement. It still froze at all different times.



Then I talked to one of my friends that told me to clear my System Cache. Microsoft told his friend to do it when he was having a prob. with Fallout 3. I gotta say it kind of worked. But in 2-3 hours I went to Ilium and did three loyalty missions through out the galaxy and it still froze a number of times just not as often. It's still freezing far to often.

I haven't had any problems with the game freezing or getting stuck but I did notice durring the loyalty mission for the Justicar that the game goes completely mute when she is having the throw down with her daughter. No sound at all durring the fight then everything comes back when it's over. So far thats the only problem I've had with gameplay.

Freezing that many times is a hardware or software problem relating to the 360, not Mass Effect 2. Multiple screen freezes are a problem that is listed on the Microsoft Xbox support pages as a reason to contact them.

I understand that it's most likely hardware, especially an Xbox that's four years old. Fable 2 froze a few times recently. But ME2 has locked up my Xbox over 50 times in 11 hours of game play. No one game has done that, or 3 games. It's ridiculous. The sound glitch I've read about and haven't reached yet. And there are plenty of threads open that all talk about the same freezing with new characters or second play throughs and I've heard the same **** about Dragon Age. I love Mass Effect, but again I cant get drawn in and experience the game when it does this.

The game froze on me one time because I attempted to open the Xbox guide in the transition between the loading screen and the gameplay screen.



Don't do that. It's a Bad Idea.

I get several freezes and glitches during gameplay, have tried installing it to HDD, Clearing Cache, Removing HDD and playing off Memory Stick, updating console, none worked. Also when I run the game from Disc 2 it asks me to install an update, if I say yes then it installs and reboots, but freezes at the X booting up screen before the main Xbox menu. If I do not install the update then it runs about 50% of the time, but freezes regularly. Anybody got advice for me?

I recently cleared the Memory Cache of the HDD, then just to be safe, moved my console to a cooler area to prevent overheating, I like to associate the 360 with the Mass Effect 1 Assault Rifles. lol

Here's my list with a few others... It's not your hard drive... I have a brand new 360 and this is the ONLY game that has issues on my console. ME 1 had glitches with the mako ALL the time, but that was the only thing, so I got out the mako for all fights, but ME2 Has WAY too many glitches... DAO had quite the amount of glitches too, but now where near ME2... Maybe EA money is making Bioware get too comfortable. Maybe they dont care about the customers as much anymore. Or maybe about testing their games. They might expect us to test them from now on and then they release a patch 6 months down the road... I love Bioware, but they need to step up their "game" and get their acts together.

That's what happened to me, too.  Played all the way through with no trouble and when I went to start a new one on Insanity with the same character, it froze on that part.  It only happened once, though.  After I restarted it worked fine and that's the only time the game has frozen on me.

 Just chiming in so this issue gets some attention.

Second playthrough, imported ME1 char, insanity, freezing consistently at the loading screen just after the medbay cutscene.

8 fails so far, haven't gotten through yet.

If it can't be fixed just patch it so I can skip the intro

I've put an open window and a big fan by my xbox and it still freezes, ordered replacement disc's and am getting a different xbox, will see how that goes...

Try turning off the film grain effect in the options. This has fixed all of my lockups thus far. Yeah, it sucks that I had to turn off the effect just to be able to play, but as long as I still get to play the thing I bought, I'll live with it...

I had been locking up at least every few minutes after I got past the destruction of the Normandy (opening scenes of the game), and just disabling the one feature seems to have corrected all the instances of this issue.
