Why are you trying to open it?  It's an override file.

SUUUUCKS! Was my first choice.

I think I am gonna go warrior and zerg the game on normal. Then if its got replayability and this issue is fixed come through a second time and finesse a higher difficulty as a rogue.

I was hoping this game would be flawless and Bioware could shake that reputation of launching buggy games.

Right click on the file... select the option from the menu to download the file... choose to download it to the following folder:

My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override.-OR-

Right click on the file... select the option from the menu to download the file... cut and copy or move the file to the following folder:

My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override.
I hope you do not need help any of the individual steps :P

Really disappointing. Here I was thinking daggers got 100% of their damage from Dex. No wonder my rogue does so little damage.

Given the reported str requirements for high end large weapons, the lethality I was *just* about to pick up looks more and more worthless. I'll need to take another look at the skill tree to make sure I can pick up the talent that lets you dual wield large weapons...

For anyone replying in the last few minutes who has not read the full thread, there's an unoffical fix for this. Also, as for the 50% Dex 50% Strength notes. The Manual does say "Strength is *nearly as critical* for Rogues as it is for Warriors." That's why I'm keeping mine within 5 points of one another, (same with cunning). One thing I like about this game, there's not really any "dump" stats, even when you think there would be. Magic affects how well healing items heal you. Willpower determines your stamina totals...etc.

no however when i do that all i am getting in the override folder is a link.. and if i click that link it again asks me to  start save or canacel it.  I had thought it would put an actual file into there or is it just suppose to be a link ?  that is my question i guess i am use to  NWN with actual files for mods or  the mods for wow that you download and paste in to yoru mod folder

*off-topic*

I wonder where this whole "ROGUES USE DAGGERS FOR FIGHTING11!1" thing got started.

I mean, a dagger is not really a primary weapon, its something you'd keep with you sure, but only if a fight got particularly nasty, and you thought you could get a quick jab in when their armor opened up, its not very long, so would be useless to deflect things with, not very strong, as a dagger couldn't be used to pierce even a leather jerkin, and well, its not exactly something you'd run into battle with two of.

It could have possibly come from the fact Rogues are seen as sneaky assassins, as the dagger is often viewed as a tool of that, being as its so easy to hide one, as well as to quickly take it out for a jab, unlike the sword or axe, which are much more difficult to conceal, as well as to take out, but well, we are not assassinating Genlocks or Hurlocks, and heck, I doubt a dagger could even do much to them damage wise, even from behind, it would basically be like stabbing an Elephant with a kitchen knife.

I dunno, the idea of a man running into battle against hundreds of evil demon like things with nothing but two kitchen knifes has always amused me, in our world, it would be the quickest route to suicide available, and its just funny to think about it.

Yeah, used the cheat console to give myself a few levels, enough to get 15 attribute points. When I used them all on DEX, my damage remained the same, single digits. When I used them all on STR, damage went up to mid-teens. It's still only using STR for daggers.

Confirmed. I'll check into that later, it seems a bit more involved than altering that one file.

That's odd. When I download the file, I get a file named "bitm_base.gda" and not a link like you seem to be getting.

Sorry dude, this sounds like a weird problem you're having on your particular computer, don't know what to tell you. That sucks though :/

Well rogues using daggers stems from D&D 1st edition. A backstab was only usable if you were wielding a dagger or short sword. Also had to have a define-able back to stab. Think about it. Kinda rough to use a bludgeon or slashing weapon to penetrate into someones back. Then in 3rd they added sneak attacks, which could even be ranged. So theres a reason to use daggers and not swords.

Forget about the patch for the bug fix...it's been stated that it doesn't work and the problem is more complex.

The fix doesn't work, if you check out the original thread, Georg has confirmed that it's something more complex than he thought and he will continue to look into it.

So, let me clarify a few points here... So, the reason that dual-wielding warriors don't care about this is because they can easily afford to put their points mostly into strength and dexterity, because they don't care about cunning the way rogues do? Is that right? So if I really want to dual-wield, I can just became a warrior and ignore this bug?
