I was browsing through some of the polls and an astonishing number of people seem to prefer tali as a squad mate and LI. Someone fill me in. What am I missing? Of all of the options, what sets her apart? Imo, if you wanted looks, you would go for miranda. Jack had the most interesting back story, I thought. I dont like Ash at all. So of all the ladies...why?

Tali is just a loveable character .. 

 Slightly disappointed in choosing her as a Li though in the sense:

    I still want to see what she looks like under that helmet!!!

 But her comments after the fact were amusing

Because Tali is the best, After seeing what Liara had become Tali was my sweetheart, and would have picked Tali in ME1 if it were possible.

Miranda looks like a science experiment, Jack is well...full of angst. Tali is an old friend and shes shy and sweet. If you actually romance her, she sounds like she really loves shepard. And shes got a battle drone which goes for the Optics. So shes made of win.

Because, she's this innocent and nervous thing, and terribly cute, but knows when to not take your bullsht... and she has a shotgun.



Then there's her hips. After the Flotilla, I learned that all Quarian females got dem hips... I'd give some honeys their fair share of sniffles if you get me.

Miranda is a stuck-up beautiful **** that oozes confidence... and she has an Australian accent. I'm pretty sure she was specifically engineered for LI, but many many people are drawn to Tali. I think it's because we can't see what she looks like under that helmet and we want to. Plus she was in ME and for those of us that have played it, know the Tali character and got attached to her in it.

As for the OP, I'd say it's just that a lot of Tali fans are much more vocal about it, I doubt most male sheps on their first playthrough romance her (I wonder if Bioware has that information? Hmm...)

Tali was fun in ME but not my favorite, I'm glad shes back but Im not a super fan. And I was surprised to find Tali as a LI. I didnt think of her that way and didnt even find out she felt that way till i was well into cracking Jacks defenses.

her combat lines are BG2 reference, she's shy and sweet... overall her character seems well developed

i only romanced her because i was hoping to see her face finally. as for squad mates i usually used either Miranda or Jack for the biotic and Grunt or Thane for the other character.

I think you're overanalyzing it. She's just an all-around friendly and pleasant person who reciprocates interest. It's that simple.

the tali character has vastly improved from ME1. she is actually much deeper than a whining ****

I like her because her visual appearance and personality weren't taken to any of the extremes of usual female characters. Miranda's a good example of a visual extreme. Tali's personality and general visual form occupy those middle ground zones, and there's just something nicer about that. There's something approchable yet fun about the character, and I think it has to do with that  middle ground approach. She has some extreme ideas, but they're counter balanced (geth opinions) and the majority are right there in the middle zipping around. Her only true extreme is that she becomes attached to Shepard not through owing him, but through trusting him and becoming loyal - not in game mechanics but in the benefit of the doubt she gives him even in actions she might have doubts on.

Jack is fugly, Miranda is the best looking but she is committed to Cerberus and i don't like that.

Ash is a whiny little *****, and liara, well she is useful but not really interesting.
