I don't know if anyone has said this already, but here's my very simple theory:
She's the mysterious nerdy girl with glasses
Why do the majority of people prefer Tali?

A) she can have tom-boy-ish moments (Garrus citadel convo, slyly insinuating at her feelings if you ask are you hitting on me, shouts go for the optics), innocent, mainly shy, caring, intelligent, accent, hips, looks, has a shotgun, named her drone
mysterious, nerdy, don't take crap

Hell, everybody likes Tali, even Joker does. (ask him about the squad after a mission with Tali.)
Besides, the relationship Shepard has with her just seems deeper, the fact he is willing to go into a relationship with her in spite of physical contact, not because of it.

I like her because she is smart and socially capable. Nice, but not sappy. She can be sharp without being ****y. Tough yet compassionate.
For me Liara was a bit on the boring side. She is obviously smart, but she just didn't have the same spark as Tali. Ashley had the sarcastic wit, but too much of a "tough woman."
The "mystery" of not seeing Tali's face never entranced me. her personality speaks a lot louder. It helps that Tali was fantastically voice acted.
