Why do the majority of people prefer Tali?

Confident but insecure enough to not get into the "hot girl alternate reality".
Except for the fact she has to be in a constant body suit she is the ideal female personality imo

I was browsing through some of the polls and an astonishing number of people seem to prefer tali as a squad mate and LI. Someone fill me in. What am I missing? Of all of the options, what sets her apart? Imo, if you wanted looks, you would go for miranda. Jack had the most interesting back story, I thought. I dont like Ash at all. So of all the ladies...why?
I think Tali is really sweet. Miranda's hot, and I even think she's a more interesting character than Ashley, but at the same time think about it, if you actually got in a relationship with this woman she'd chain you up like a dog. You'd be straight **** whipped if Miranda became your love interest. She and Jacob couldn't even maintain a relationship. What makes you think it would work out with her and Shepard? Not only that, Tali is the only LI in ME2 who you have some kind of pre-existing relationship with, so it makes sense to me.

Masked characters do tend to be popular. Just go ask Char Aznable, or Master Chief.

Miranda looks like a science experiment, Jack is well...full of angst. Tali is an old friend and shes shy and sweet. If you actually romance her, she sounds like she really loves shepard. And shes got a battle drone which goes for the Optics. So shes made of win.

In my opinion, I was actually a little turned off by Tali when you first encounter her. She's just kinda like, "Oh. Hey." And my Shep's like, "'Sup? I got rebuilt." Not exactly chemistry, you know. But when I went to recruit her, I listened to her audio logs and she made mention of wishing she could do something like Shepard had done, or seeing something that she wished Shepard could see. It was just too adorable. The writing was does magnificently to show that, through the end of her pilgrimage and her return to the flotilla, she had slowly and secretly developed feelings for Shepard, possibly from seeds planted back in ME1 when he had helped her so much. It felt almost REAL in the game, and wholly believable. From that moment on I knew that I was going to let Ashley go for good. Then again, it was pretty easy since Ashley seemed to want to break it off so readily on Horizon. The follow up email was...nice...but I was already hurt.
Gah! This game fosters too much real emotion. It's hard to let go of it.

My guess is because shes a carry over from the first game where character personalities got explored so people relate to her more then these paper cut out figures in ME2.
I mean seriously, so far the only people gushing about this games emotional connection are people that admit they normally dont play RPGs.
For RPG fans, there simply is no connection to the ME2 LIs so people fall back on what they know from ME1. ALOT of people wanted Tali as a LI in ME1 so now they living out their fantasy so to speak in ME2.
I romanced Miranda in my first ME2 game and let me say, in all the Bioware games I have played in my 44 years, I have never fellt so blah about a romance option as I did about Miranda and let me also say, the actual romance had no pay off in any way, visual or emotional, there was nothing.

Wow so much negativity against Tali so quickly, the Tali haters are out for blood, we need LPPrince, Xena_Shepard, and the rest of the crew in her quickly to set them straight. Anyway here are some of my reasons. Tali is in love with Shepard regardless of his feelings towards her, too often in Bioware games the PC takes a predatory approach and seduces a female. If you break it off with her she sounds like she is about to burst into tears. She is sweet, shy, and lovably awkward when embarrassed but is also somewhat prejudice and can lace her words with poison. Her realistic moral compass is similar to Mordin in that neither character really fits a traditional D&D style alignment system, they are good people but also willing to do bad things, if Tali had a weapon of geth destruction she would use it instantly. Her figure is average, too often the characters appeal to sexual stereotypes, except for her hips which were built for child baring. Props to Liz as well since she brings the character to life.
Where are you seeing Tali haters?

Mysterious helmet issues, its true. I believe the word is infatuation. People build up in their minds what someone is when they really have no basis for such hope. It could very well turn out that all Quarians have invasive implants that disfigure their "appeal" with out the mask. After all she said she had "never shown her mask to anyone."
maybe, but i highly doubt it. you have to take into account that once the mask came off, there was no hesitation on shepards part. there was no "gah!" or "oh god" or anything of that sort. once the mask came off, they went at it. which would generally leave me to believe that tali is, in fact, quite attractive underneath the mask.

I don't really get it either. I never really cared for her character, and thought she was kind of dull compared to the other characters in the game.Lord Atlia wrote...

At the same time she's shy when it comes to intimacy, for obvious reasons though (virgin alert!), and that's endearing. Top it off with her getting figity and the slight stutter on a subject she's uncomfortable with (again, the intimacy thing), and it's just adorable.
Just my 2 cents.

She's like an alien Kaylee Frye with a foreign accent, a cool enviro suit, chicken feet and three-fingered hands. Oh, and dem hips.skinnyjr wrote...

Cute voice and Accent (her stammering while talking about the "intimate" natue of linking suits was adorable)
"Exotic" shape
Barely legal age?
Who doesn't love a mystery? What's it like under that suit? Forget blue chicks!
My favorite is Ash personally. I kept my pants on for all of ME2 (and I'm blue ballin pretty bad :{ )
Ash is honestly the most believable women in a game to date in my opinion. She also broke the Chick Sniper/Healer/Hacker/Mage stereotype by being the "tank." She was pretty but not the usual "beyond perfect" video game female body and never dressed like ****. And she could physically kick your ass in an agressive way, not the typical "graceful dodging flower" we always see with femal characters,
Plus, she believes in God, has close family, has a bit of a "conservative" mindset, and thus is a bit untrusting of outsiders, but not outright racist, and is a good person at heart, and has good intencions. That is actually EXACLTY like me. I have never found a more relatable virtual character, and probably never will. Most other RPGs you get three kinds of female characters, "Adorable type who is always preaching 'why can't we all get along in peace'" and the "Survivalist cold hearted **** who is likly to be showing 80%-100% cleavage," and "Average looking smart one."
Tali luckily, does not fit into any of those either.

Have you ever heard of stories where someone falls in live with a person in a coma? Its a psychological effect that happens when you start speculating about the person and letting your imagination run wild. People who seem mysterious attract other people due to that same psychological effect.

Risking death to be with Shepard is also a huge sign of trust.
Edit: I romanced her because she was the sweeter romance options, but only because I thought Ashley dumped me. I restarted and now will stay with Ashley.
